I don't call it clutter. The word clutter, makes it sound like an unwanted assortment of stuff. I call it re-organizing my scrapbook stash. My scrapbook stuff is very much wanted.

I think many of us spend time reorganizing our stash. You are not alone!
The benefit for me is seeing what I haven't used and asking myself if I'd buy that again today. If not, I usually purge it. If the B side is white, I use that to mat photos. I fussy cut elements from a few sheets, too.

it's often said that you can't organise clutter ...but you sure can move it about and put it in pretty containers, lol Why do you want to declutter? Sometimes knowing this helps direct the process. Do you have more stuff than space? maybe assign each type of thing to a specific container/space and only put back your favourites until it is full (not overfull/overflowing/jampacked) and you can discard the least favourites that didn't fit Do you have stuff that you bought because you wanted to do/be ______but in reality you didn't like, never got around to, aren't going to do... For example, maybe you bought watercolours because you saw someone working with and it was really pretty but maybe you tried them once and it wasn't your thing or you've had them five years and never got around to trying them? It's okay to say I'm not a watercolour person and pass those along. Are you stuck on the sunk cost fallacy? The money is already spent, it's okay to reclaim the space from spending mistakes (we all have those right? we had FOMO or full set syndrome or sale price/clearance pulled us in) It's okay to keep the stuff you love and will use but sometimes it's hard to find/use that stuff because it's mixed in with stuff you used to love or thought you would use but don't. I don't call it clutter. The word clutter, makes it sound like an unwanted assortment of stuff. it's clutter if it interferes with being able to scrap. It's not clutter if you can and do use it.

I've started a time out tub. When I feel I have too much of something and they don't fit into their assigned place in my craft room, they I go thru and purge things. Some I give away and others go into my time out tub.

I find that if I am stressed or worried about something, then I go and organize my scrap stuff. It helps me to focus on something I like (scrap stuff) and I get lost doing that instead of being in my head.

Yup, it can be fun, or soothing... gives a sense of control and order... but if there is too much stuff for the space I find it's very frustrating. If you want to have less you have to get things out of the house in some way, preferably quickly (before you can come up with a reason to keep them). Do you have somewhere to donate things? Or give them away (teacher, charity, friend, kids)? If you don't know where the discards are going to go it's going to be hard to get rid of anything. Choosing the absolute perfect place for each of the things is going to slow you down. Good enough is good enough. Dana K White says "You can keep anything you want but you can't keep everything and have your space stay under control." I really recommend her books, podcast, videos, whichever format you like, she always says the exact same things because it really works. She is great for people who are creative and love everything they have, where everything sparks joy. Following her process has helped me see though some things I thought I had to keep a whole set of when actually I only loved one, and realize that when I don't know what to do with something and I'm turning myself inside out trying to decide, trashing it or donating it to the "wrong" place might actually be the best option. If you follow her process strictly you won't make a bigger mess, and things will actually leave your space, so it will get better.

Some I give away and others go into my time out tub. Yes! some call it a quarantine bin or time-will-tell bin. It can be a way to prove you don't need an item at all and start separating your emotional attachment to it. Or at least get less-used things out of the way of what I'm using right now.

I don't call it clutter. The word clutter, makes it sound like an unwanted assortment of stuff. it's clutter if it interferes with being able to scrap. It's not clutter if you can and do use it. They’re wrong. I can and have organized a lot of clutter . Funny enough, the only space I’m still doing that is my craft room. I have decided to cut back more in a few categories that are overwhelming for me now with things I feel like I should use, not that I want to use. And I agree with everything you said, lots of great points! I finally admitted to myself that these things interfere with my ability to scrap because I try to work them in to a current project before I allow myself to just play with what I want, which just discourages me, makes me feel guilty and completely kills my mojo every time. So I’ve been very slowly going through a little drawer a day to get rid of those types of items. I do still have some items I saw and thought I’d like…but I haven’t given them a real try. Like water colors. So I’ve decided to put them aside and give myself a certain amount of time to try them before I donate them instead of always thinking “oh, I’ll get there one day.”

paper scrap booking stuff and junk journal ,,,ribbons tools etc...keep putting them in containers and fooling myself that i am decluttering, After reading your post today I forced myself to go through my ribbon. It was taking up a bunch of space and kind of stressing me out. I could not use it because to find a color I wanted I had to go through it all and it was just too much. It took about an hour and a half of my life, but I purged a ton of ribbon I knew I was never going to actually use, kept the stuff I love and literally walked over to the neighbor who has grandkids and said "Would they like some craft supplies?" and she gratefully took it. I also took over about 2" of 12x12 thin paper that was not going to get used, and if math can be believed, that is about 192 sheets of paper and at a rate of 3 pieces per layout and one layout a week that was over a year of paper I gave away. It felt good.

I frequently purge and make enough room to keep things neat. I am lucky to have a good amount of space. I donate to a second hand craft store and see my stuff there. Love knowing it gets a second life elsewhere.

The stuff I kept is in clear 4 x 4 x 12 containers that sit on their sides so I can see all of the colors right away. I don't use it much, but like that I can find what I want quickly.

DH knows if he comes into my scrappy room and sees that I have dumped everything out on the floor, he knows I am needing space and time by myself to work through things in my head.

Does anyone else sometimes clean your scrapspace instead of your actual house? Me. That would be me.
