Just curious what process people use for printing photos.
My process is to have a bunch of photos printed and THEN divide into page protectors by potential layout and then narrow it down when I'm making the layout. I'll occasionally have a single photo printed locally for a specific page but that's typically for the family history pages.

I print at home. If I am working on vacation pictures, I'll print them (more or less) all at once, then go on to making layouts. Otherwise, I'll print the pictures I feel like working with at the moment. I need to revisit this when I get back to scrapbooking as I am finding this method to be such a time waster.

I print photos per layout, after I decide size. It takes more time but I don’t waste supplies doing it this way.

I print at home. I do batch printing and not typically with a project or layout in mind. Every 2-3 months I print everything on my phone and then move them off my phone to my computer. Rinse and repeat.

I prefer to print my photos all at one time. Most are printed 4x6, but some I will print enlargements for, and some I will collage on my phone and print 4 pic's to an 8x8 collage. I like shuffling through them, choosing which will make it on to a particular page.
If I change my mind while scrapping, I will sometimes print a photo at home in a different orientation or in a different size--usually 5x7--or I will enlarge a part of a photo to 4x6 so one of my scrapped pic's shows a closeup.

I don't print at home but I'm interested in it. Before I order pictures I choose which ones I want to use on a layout and then decide on picture size. Then edit and order.

I print photos per layout, after I decide size. It takes more time but I don’t waste supplies doing it this way. This, plus I usually want smaller sizes. When planning I print a contact sheet (many photos on a piece of paper) for each LO to draw my sketch and note photo sizes. Usually I will have several photos (5-10) on the contact sheet and also use the opportunity to narrow down which photos to print. I have been using this system for over a decade and it works really well for me. I batch plan pages and ordering prints.

I order most of my everyday prints thru Snapfish. Before i order i go though and turn some into 2-3x4s on a 4x6 (in photoshop elements). If I decide I need something in a different size or realize I didn't order something I will print the photo at home.
For projects like December Daily or Week in the Life i print at home because I use a mix of photo sizes and don't want to wait to get them.

For home printing, I only have an Instax printer, so my option there is limited to a specific look and due to the cost I don't print the bulk of my photos this way.
I tend to send the bulk of my photos for printing monthly to my local drugstore, which does a decent job and I can pick up easily on my way home from work. I generally have an idea if the photo is going to go into my PL or a traditional layout which dictates the size of the photo. If it is landscape and going into PL, I will most likely print 4x6, if it is portrait and going into PL, it gets printed at 2.5x3.5. If I am printing for traditional layouts I generally opt for 4x6, sometimes 3.5x5.
If I am working on a particular layout or sketch, I will print a photo specifically for the project if what I have on hand doesn't work.

I have printed and then decide on the layout.
I have a question to add. For those that have them printed, what sizes do you usually get? I've just really been getting back into scrapbooking after a few years hiatus and then before that MANY years. Last year we went to Italy for two weeks. I picked and ordered all the pictures I wanted to scrapbook. I started scrapping and I'm thinking 4x6, maybe I should get 4x4? I do crop them down if I can without cutting out the main focus point. But even so they are taking up so much room on the pages and at this rate my album is going to need a volume 2 and maybe a volume 3! I've done at least a dozen pages and am only day two of our trip. I can put in fewer pictures also but am thinking the smaller prints might also help.

I usually order a batch of prints every few months from Costco, now Shutterfly. I kind of decide as I'm adding them to my cart what layouts I'm going to make, how many photos I need (usually 1-4) and do order a few in 5 by 7.
If I find out as I'm scrapping I need one more photo, missed ordering one, or am doing a challenge and don't have a photo printed, I will print one with my Selphy.
I don't currently have access to an app that will put two photos on a print (ACDSEE won't let me transfer the version I paid for to a new computer...grrr) so the smallest prints I'm ordering or printing are 4 by 6.

I can't vote because I'm at an in-between stage! I PREFERRED to have Costco print up massive batches of photos, then scrap from there. No plan. But yeah, Costco closed. So now I intend to print at home, and hope to print batches by "chapter" in my albums so with some general idea of what layouts I will be creating but no firm plan. I don't think I'll ever print layout-to-layout. But more intentional than before. If that makes any sense? Also - if I find a good online source again, I'll happily go back to my old system! So I didn't vote

For those that have them printed, what sizes do you usually get? my default is 4x6 (or the similar size that works better for some phone cameras) - I'll print the occasional photo 5x7, very rarely do I choose 8x10 because I scrap 8.5x11, lol. I haven't figured out how to add two pics to a 4x6...I think I'll need to learn how before my trip to England and Scotland in October. As for multi-volume - our 2+ week road trip is going to be 4-volumes (but in my defense we visited 16 states, DC, and Canada plus went to my sister's wedding AND visited my mum)

I print in mostly chronological order, because that is how I scrapbook.
I said *mostly*, because sometimes I print out of order (if I am printing copies for someone, then I print my set too). But I don't scrapbook them until they are next in the photo box chronologically.

I decide what page I want to make. Ex. Choir concert for ds.
I then go through my photos and decide what style of pocket layout I want. Single 9x12? 9 3x4 pockets?
Then decide how many photos I want and what size.
I then open PS and tweak the photos if needed and resize accordingly.
Send to my photo printer and begin the layout.

Back when I used to do paper scrapping, I would get my photos printed for a specific layout. I really didn’t like doing it that way, but as I often didn’t use 6x4 photos, I had to plan every page first. It was such a PITA! If I’d had a decent home printer to use, it would have been easier, and I could have printed photos as required.

I print at home for specific layouts or projects. Any time I’ve printed photos for use in layouts ahead of time they sit unused because they end up being the wrong size for my project.

@iluvpink I like to make 1 pg layouts with 3-5 photos so small prints are a necessity. Even though I can use PSE I prefer to keep things simple and use the PL app to make collages of 3x4, 4x4, 2x3 and 2x2 photos. As mentioned above I figure out what sizes I need for a LO before ordering.

My general approach regarding photos is to decide the next few stories that I want to tell/scrap, choose the photos that support them, & order the prints (typically 4x6 with little to no editing) at a local camera store. ETA: I never print photos at home.

I print once per month with Persnikcity Prints.
I look through all my photos from the previous month, plan/sketch layouts and then place an order.
If I miss a photo, decided I wish I had a different size or some other mishap, I place a post it on the layout, and order it the next month.

I usually print all my photos through Shutterfly every few months (free through the app - just pay shipping). I typically don't resize them (very rarely). I print all the pics from and event (Christmas, Vacation, etc) then go through them once they arrive. Once I have my pics, I then decide on layouts. I'll usually throw away any extra prints/duplicates I don't use (or at least I try to).

I used to print all my pics in giant batches thru Snapfish - usually 4x6 and 5x7. I would have boxes of 200 or more prints to go through. In 2023 I bought an Epson Picturemate 400 and now I print at home and I only print the photos I want in the sizes I want. It has saved me so much space, time and money
