Apparently the hotel is booked out already, even though the tickets to the event went on sale 20 minutes ago. Who books the hotel room before they even have a spot for the crop?!? 😡

Apparently the hotel is booked out already, even though the tickets to the event went on sale 20 minutes ago. Who books the hotel room before they even have a spot for the crop?!? 😡 We do that for triathlons that haven’t opened up yet, otherwise there is next to zero chance of getting a room at the host hotel. We’ve even had to do it on two weekends before the exact date of the annual events are announced. And then canceled the other immediately once the announcement is made. And did it for a Braves game before the schedule was announced, we just knew we’d be in town that weekend and would go if they had a scheduled game. Otherwise close rooms are sold out and/or prices go way up when the schedule is announced. It’s a PITA for all involved. Have you tried calling the hotel directly? Maybe they have some blocked specifically for this event. Or third party sites? Perhaps someone didn’t get a spot at the event and will have canceled. Make a reservation at your next choice (make sure you have the option to cancel without fees) and then I’d keep checking back. Good luck! Have never heard of this event, off to look even though it’s not in the budget right now!

They are just sold out for Friday night, so I'm hoping I'll get off of the wait list soon. The 300 crop spots sold out in less than 2 minutes today.

Have fun! I went a few years ago and it was a nice game away. People may cancel their rooms if they don’t get in. They are allowed to book a year in advance.

I once added up how much it would cost me to go for a fun crafting trip. It was way too much for crafting, as I would haver to fly there (from across the country, LOL) . Do you live near by or drive there or fly?

Do you live near by or drive there or fly? We'll drive - it will take 12 hours to drive according to Google maps. I figure we'll drive over on Wednesday, recover on Thursday/explore the area, crop the weekend, and then drive back on Monday.

I couldn’t tell on the website. It calls it a crop, but in part of the description mentions classes. But then I can’t find any details about any of them. If there are also classes it would be something I’m interested in for next year.

If there are also classes it would be something I’m interested in for next year. It's a crop that starts at noon on Friday (and you can scrap until 1:00 a.m.), Saturday is from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m., and Sunday is 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. They sell additional classes that you can take, several of which are taught by former CK Hall of Famer Allison Davis. They announce the classes sometime later, and you can buy the ones you want to take. I know they sell the extra kits from previous We Create events on their website. I guess I'll learn more the closer it gets to September! 😀

Me and my 2 pals are going. This will be our third year. oh, fun! Any tips or things you wish you'd known before your first time attending? My first year, we took everything. My second year, the three of us scaled back quite a bit. I put together about 30 page kits to take plus two lines and their embellies for just in case. Also 2 months of HKC kits. I really put some thought into each page kit and even included a sketch. It was REALLY nice to just pull out a page kit and start working. I was really quite productive and came home with only 7 untouched kits plus the SG kits/classes I bought. I like to hand stitch on my layouts so I felt good about how much I got done. I didn't touch the extra two lines or HKC kits. This year I will only bring kits. I even have a packing list. When I come home from a crop I make note of what I didn't use. For example, I won't be taking all my distress inks; just black and brown. I won't be taking my big shot and dies because I'm going to precut titles and such to include in each kit. What you should take is a lamp or an OTT light. The room doesn't have the best lighting so an extra light source really helps me. Also, if you have one of those collapsible wagons, I would definitely take that. It's helpful for hauling in and out your stuff but also it slides under the table which is a good area to stash supplies when you're working. I also like taking my own collapsible trash can because the trash bags they tape to the tables aggravate for some reason. I also like to work on a surface like a big self healing mat. Oh, and an extension cord or a power strip so you have extra plug in's for charging your cell phone or plugging in your light. If I think of anything else, I'll come back!

Do you live near by or drive there or fly? Me and friends drive from Colorado Springs. It's a days trip for sure. We leave at dawn and get to Springfield around 7 that night. We don't ever stop talking so it's really an enjoyable trip and our little adventure together..

I'm already starting to think about what we'll bring. I may try to work on an album for one of my big trips, or maybe I'll bring some of my vintage BG monthly kits and work on those - they'll allow me to not get bored with one topic. How were the SG classes? Any tips on those?

Apparently, I have lots to say but someone mentioned about the Oasis being sold out. Don't be afraid to look at the surrounding hotels. The first year, we stayed at the Oasis. We thought the rooms were a bit "tired" although it was nice to be able to go back and forth to our room. The second year the Oasis was sold out so we stayed at The Drury Inn across the street. We actually enjoyed that hotel more. They have free breakfast and dinner (although our dinners are included with the crop fee) and on Friday they give 3 tickets to have a beverage (booze!). The breakfast was more than a continental breakfast that most hotels usually offer. Beds were more comfortable too. We're staying at the Drury again this year.

About SG classes.... The seats in classes sell out quickly. I prefer to buy my kits and work on them on my own. I think they're pricey but everything is there and the pages are gorgeous. I zero will power when it comes to the kits. I see many scrappers just working on their class kits during the crop. SG is so organized! When you arrive at your spot, you'll find a bunch of stuff waiting for you right at your seat. It's wonderful! The onsite store is so/too much fun. Start saving now!

Table Set-Up: One thing I always find helpful is taking my attachable drink holder (with trash bag). Even with a lid I don’t like my drinks taking room on my table. It doesn’t fit on the plastic tables, though does work well on the collapsible fake wood one. Not for classes, but for a crop I’d bring my ScrapNEasel to keep my layout together without taking up much room on my table. And I’ve started to prefer to use a Sterlite 3-drawer unit on my tabletop for my tools instead of a tool tote because things get lost in the tote for me. My ATG and scissors live on the top and are immediately accessible. An OTT light and work surface as posted above. Baby wipes (almost all water content) to keep my hands clean, and snacks that won’t dirty them.
Comfort: I have back issues so for a crop of this length I’d bring my back support and a cushion to sit on. It’s never an issue for me, but a lot of times my neighbors have been cold so they bring a slip on cardigan.
I second the recommendations to pre-prep page kits with printed photos and design sketches and to limit what you bring. I don’t bring stamping or embossing, and very few inks as well. If you have some basic cardstock you frequently use (white, black, grey, navy, etc.) I’d bring extra of that in case you need to expand a page kit. Extras that can save your bacon: blades for your trimmer and exacto, staples for your tiny attacher if you use that a lot, preferred journaling pen(s), and tape for ATG or refill(s) for your favorite adhesive. Post-it notes so that if you think of something you have at home to add you can note it immediately on the page. Along that line of thought, whatever paper you sketch your ideas on. Write down journaling or any tidbits to remember as it comes to you too!
For classes: I like to label a separate 12 x 12 plastic snap envelope to put everything in. And if they give enough of a sneak peak, then photos that might work for the layouts.
For shopping: I always make sure to bring something sturdy to hold individual papers and another for embellishments.
That’s all I can think of off the top of my head. I haven’t been to a convention in ages so this is based on that and when I take stuff downstairs to craft with. If space is a concern you can keep your extras in your vehicle or room. Or if you haven’t done an event like this before, space isn’t an option, and you just aren’t sure what to bring, having the “maybe I might need this” in your vehicle can take away some of the stress and worry for you. Have fun!

So I got lucky and got two spots for Scrapbook Generation's 2024 We Create event in September. Any other peas planning to go? Something I did when I went- Each month I purchased things online from scrapbook generation during their free kit weekend and then got all the goodies when I got to the crop. I did buy while there too but that was fun!

I’m already doing a few at home things and then staying over for the expo. September is so hard for me to get away! Still it’s fun hearing about others going.
