Sorry Becki ( jeremysgirl) I fell back in love with them this winter and I have 3 different ones from the neighbours next door. I have a husband and wife and Boris who I am not sure who he belongs to. I saw pink on his neck today so father gave him a strong Ukrainian name. What do you feed yours? I have a hot water pot that boiled off the chlorine and it stays hot all day. I measure a cup of water and 1/3 cup of sugar. I let it cool, fill the feeder, and put it outside. They all seem very happy drinking it. I bring in the feeder everyday or every other day to clean and replace the nectar. I will change the water tomorrow as we have lots of blossoms for them to find naturally.(Hi Canadá we don’t know how to drive in snow but already had our flower count!) Tell us what you do for your hummies.

We mix 1/4 cup sugar with 1 cup water. Water has been boiled. Put in feeders. During the very hot weater we change it every other day.
We have also planted several types of flowers that the hummers like. Butterflies also like the same flowers so both visit our yard.

We no longer due due to ant issues (we live on an ant hill).
But we would boil the water and add the sugar.
In summer we changed it every evening when cooler. Hummingbirds can get an illness that affects their tongues so clean water is a must.

I am using sugar and I would never think honey because I dislike it so badly. I am afraid of it and thank you for the reminder. Hummies get boiled water and the best sugar. I love the family of 3 I have!

I do a combination about the same as you. I have had summers where I found it hard to keep up with my hummingbirds. I had five feeders spread out around my yard and had hanging baskets with flowers that attract birds. They fight and chase each other away. It’s ridiculous. I used to film videos of my feeders because I might have a dozen birds buzzing around one. It was crazy, but a lot of fun. We used to refer to it as our hummingbird situation. People would come over to sit on my deck and check out my feeders. Then I had another summer where I thought maybe my California lake neighbors had stolen my birds. They put up feeders and I wasn’t getting any. It turned out they weren’t either. Not sure where they were.
I own all the birds on the lake.

Neighbour said hers are different from mine. That means there are about 6 between us. We have a very floral patio (big) and 4 hanging baskets and more.

Yes and the bluebirds and woodpeckers and nuthatches and wrens and titmouses and cardinals and squirrels and chipmunks and thrashers and warblers and finches and even the deer get in on the action.
Sometimes snakes! And possums and raccoons and even the occasional box turtle pass through. Cats, foxes, coyotes, and I'm pretty sure a bear came through once. In the suburbs!
It's pretty lively out there.

I fucking hate birds...😂 Especially the ones that live in my house. 🙄 Alfred Hitchcock did me in as a kid - BUT - we do have 5 hummingbird feeders (3 parts boiled water to 1 part sugar) we put out and a plant we discovered last year called Firecracker - sorry - I don't know the real name of it (Link below)- but the hummingbirds absolutely love it. The plant grew well all late spring through summers end here in southwest Ohio. We put them in planters over our front porch rail so we were able to see the birds up close and a little too personal some days! www.gardencrossings.com/product/cupea-vermillionaire-large-firecracker-plant/

We have two regular birdfeeders but no specific hummingbird feeder. We do however enjoy hummingbirds every year as they visit our large trump vine. The red bloom attracts them and they visit other flowers as well.

I love hummingbirds. Ours do not typically arrive back until around Mother’s Day weekend. And they are hungry when they get here. 😄. Can’t wait to see them.

I don't really hate birds. This is an ongoing joke by elannah and me. Jeremy has two birds and I hate how noisy they are. Plus, they just aren't cuddly pets like my dog or my cats. So I just don't feel attached to them.

Jeremy has two birds and I hate how noisy they are. Plus, they just aren't cuddly pets like my dog or my cats. So I just don't feel attached to them. OMG, BTDT! When I was a kid my mom wouldn’t let us get a real pet for years. Eventually she compromised and let us get a couple zebra finches after my older sister had some and liked them. NEVER!AGAIN! For such tiny little birds they were SO freaking loud and made noise all the time. And messy! OMG, messy. They scattered their seed and dried poop all over the place out of their cage. And the boy was a huge bully too. He picked on the girl all the time and eventually literally humped her to death. After that happened we got rid of him and said never again. For supposedly being low maintenance pets, they really weren’t. But as for hummingbirds, we love them and have a regular group that comes in the spring to live at the lake cabin. We have two feeders now and gave our neighbor one of our old ones after hers fell out of the tree it was in and broke. I’ve read that early in the spring they need more fuel after a long migration, so the sugar to water ratio should be increased so we do that, I always have to look it up but I think it’s 1 to 3 instead of 1 to 4 sugar to water. Once they start nesting and laying eggs, they need more protein. We also feed the orioles and woodpeckers with jelly and suet cakes. We call them our customers because they come to eat at our diner, LOL.

I feed the hummingbirds until the bees come! I have to take the feeders down in late July. Once the yellow jackets come, the hummingbirds don't.
If anyone knows a trick to deter the yellow jackets I'd love to hear what it is!
I also feed the orioles - grape jelly and oranges.

I have never dyed mine red because I thought it looked funky that colour and I am glad to know why now. Thank you. We had a cold/snowy snap and all the feeders in town sold out. I think that is just so sweet!
