UPDATE 3/22:
I got the go ahead to try Protonix 20mg or up to 40mg and Carafate. She said it’s worth a try, and if it isn't calming down after 7-10 days then it may not improve much beyond that.
Here’s praying it works!
*******************************************************************
I have been having issues with reflux over the past few weeks. I was taking a med that was supposed to help heal my esophagus if it had been scratched or irritated. I’ve been taking it for three weeks now with no change. So, I get to make an appointment with a gastroenterologist.
Thanks, y’all!

Are you taking Prilosec? That's what I take that the doctor prescribed me. It helped me. Before I started taking it, I was afraid my insides were trying to kill me. It was awful.
Sending you prayers and good thoughts that they get it figured out.

I’m sure the new doctor will fix it for you. Is there any otc medicine that will ease your pain for now ? I don’t have any personal experience. In the meantime, please try not to worry too much about it. Sending 🩷

You're not alone! I have 3 friends struggling with reflux right now. One just found out (after a series of tests) that she has a problem with high fructose corn syrup. Another was put on a low FODMAP diet and is feeling much better at last. I'm confident they will find out the source of your problem and you'll soon be feeling better. Thinking of you!

I’m so sorry. I hope you get some help soon. I’ve had terrible reflux and had to really alter my diet which isn’t fun but has made a huge difference.

I take Omeprazole (Prilosec) and a Pepcid every single morning. I can’t believe the difference. I had an endoscopy ( not a big deal you’re asleep) and didn’t believe I had the silent reflux…..until my PCP showed it to me. Yup. Bad. Good luck.

I think omeprazole is the active ingredient in Prilosec. I take it twice a day with meals. I only eat lunch and dinner so it works out. I have to have a colonoscopy next month to see what is causing the pain. So not looking forward to it but it's gotta be done. Good luck to you!

Prayers. It took a few tries to find the right meds for me, paid $500 every 3 months for it. Then my insurance wouldn’t cover it at all anymore, and got switched to something else that doesn’t work as well.
Hope you find the right meds for you!

Do you have issues during the day or just overnight.
Overnight: nothing to eat after dinner and at least 4-5 hours before bed. Raise the head of your bed. You must raise more then you head, it needs to be your body from the waist up is best..
I have not mastered it yet and it is painful sometimes.
Good luck getting quick answers!!

Hopefully some different meds will work. I took all the over the counter stuff on and off for years. Wasn’t cutting it anymore so pcp put me on Protonix which is prescription. Life changing.

Wow - sounds like many of us dealing with similar issues.
Sending thoughts and prayers your way for a good doc and clear guidance. I’ve been dealing with it for the past 3 weeks and it wakes me up at night with a burning heat in my chest and my heart racing. I started Prilosec and am a week and a half in and it’s just marginally better. I did make major diet changes, no food after 6:30 pm, and sleeping upright but it’s just rough so I really empathize.
Reading comments I am wondering how long it takes meds and lifestyle changes to kick in.

Praying for answers and relief! I would definitely have them check you for h pylori, and also investigate your gallbladder if you still have one. Especially since it was a sudden onset and Prilosec/omeprazole isn’t helping.
