KikiPea my husband had a choking incident at Christmas time due to reflux - be careful! After an emergency endoscopy to remove the blocked food it turns out he has eosinophilic oesophagitis - basically eosinophils are in most foods and he is allergic to them so they’ve caused a lot of damage over time to his oesophagus - mainly from reflux. Low fodmap diet can be helpful in some cases with this issue. Praying you find out what is causing your reflux, and if you have what he has I’m happy to chat about what Aussie docs have prescribed to him 🤗

Agree about checking for H Pylori. Once that's ruled out there are changes that you can make as well. Have a look at this website which my oncologist suggested: www.fammed.wisc.edu/integrative/resources/modules/gerd/I tried Omeprazole and it made no difference. They upped the dose and I felt much, much worse. I ended up weaning myself off it, and replacing it with lemon juice in water first thing every morning before eating anything. This balances the acid production in the stomach rather than reducing it (which only leads to more acid being produced) and I hardly get any symptoms these days. But get the scary things ruled out first. Prayers for you, definitely. Let us know how you get on?

OP, sending lots of positive thoughts that you will find relief soon.
Both my DH and my sister have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Both have had Esophageal dilation - a procedure that allows a doctor to dilate, or stretch, a narrowed area of the esophagus. They do have to have the procedure repeated, but it’s years apart.
I have to take omeprazole, once a day, every other day. I can’t remember the last time I had any reflux. I do’s follow the guidelines -
Maintain a healthy weight. ... Stop smoking. ... Elevate the head of your bed. ... Start on your left side. ... Don't lie down after a meal. ... Eat food slowly and chew thoroughly. ... Avoid foods and drinks that trigger reflux. ... Avoid tight-fitting clothing.

UPDATE 4/22:
I got the go ahead to try Protonix 20mg or up to 40mg and Carafate. She said it’s worth a try, and if it isn't calming down after 7-10 days then it may not improve much beyond that.
Here’s praying it works!

I hope this works for you. I only had to deal with reflux once and I was absolutely miserable, so I’m crossing my fingers there is an immediate impact for the pain for you.

Here’s praying it works! Did you have an EGD? And esophogeal motility test? There are many, many things that a gastro can do to diagnose and treat reflux. Im not sure why yours basically just shrugged like there were no other options.

Protonix helped my son when nothing else did. Eventually he found out he had celiac. I'm guessing they tested you for that? (He was negative for the blood test but positive for the endoscopic biopsy.)

The meds were just the first line of defense.

I have not tested for celiac, but am already eating GF.

You need testing done. Long term reflux is not normal and long term use of antacids is not good for your body. Ask for a referral to a gastroenterologist. I learned the hard way, i spent 5 years playing the antacid game. I had a hiatal hernia, once it was repaired, no more reflux, no more meds.
