I stumbled upon this woman who bought an 80-year old woman's lifetime craft supplies (over 50 bins). She runs a second-hand craft supply store so some she is keeping for herself but most will end up in her shop. She is posting a video a day of her unboxing the bins. Kind of interesting to see the haul (and volume of stuff). It's a mix of cardmaking/scrapbooking supplies as well as general craft items. So much stuff!! She also posts on TikTok but I started following her on YouTube as it's easier for me to navigate. I'm glad the items are finding a second life and not just getting dumped! www.youtube.com/@bottomofthebin_/videos

I’ve been watching it too - so much fun to look at someone else’s stash, although the beading boxes lost my interest 😁

Omg all the doll heads and beads on a string...that cracks me up. Although I did think it was sad when she said that this lady had to go and live with her kids and could not bring her crafty stuff. I hope she at least got to take some of it.

Checked out a few videos, can't keep watching her be so rough and careless just throwing stuff and pawing through bins like that. The super-squished vertical aspect ratio isn't helping. Shame the previous owner had to give up her massive collection. I hope she got to keep some favourites.

I stumbled across her a few days. I thought I had accumulated a lot of craft supplies over the years but that lady’s collection is amazing! I would love to see some of the things she made with all those supplies over the years.

According to the shop owner, the 80 year old lady did get to keep a small amount of items, and the shop owner who bought the collection has promised to send her a card a month. She has also stated that she plans to sneak in a few supplies when she sends each card, but as you can see from the sheer number of bins being opened, going from a craft house to a craft drawer would be quite a loss! The 50 or so matching tubs were purchased by the craft shop owner to transport the collection, this deal is a special one off as the store usually only offer store credit but the realtor of the 80 year old lady really pushed for the items to go somewhere where they would be appreciated- probably to curb some of the feeling of loss. It is hard watching the shop owner be a little rough, however, I think that the alternate option was throwing the whole lot in a skip so I’m seeing it as the best of a bad situation?

can't keep watching her be so rough and careless just throwing stuff and pawing through bins like that. I realize she is filming with the other hand so she is sorting through one handed (and glad the stuff didn't get thrown away), but I too am cringing at her throwing stuff around. Makes me leery about how much paper crafting supplies I may leave behind and that nobody will appreciate the value of it.

this morning, i looked around at my accumulation of supplies and realized that no one in my family will be truly interested in my things after i’m gone. i’m 58 and need to start taking a hard look at my stash.

I started watching the first one yesterday and also was put off by the tossing and aspect ratio. I was hoping it was just the first video, but I think they’re all like that. I can’t support a channel with views who won’t take a few minutes to set up a tripod for filming. Thanks though for sharing, it’s too bad because otherwise I’d watch all of them!

I think the aspect ratio is because she is filming these for TikTok (which is where I saw her first) so that format works for that application. I ended up finding her on YouTube as it was easier for me to keep up with the videos via YouTube than TikTok.

I have seen some and was surprised how she was so casual with so of the stuff.
i did notice the brand new Tim Holtz hearts stamps and the matching dies in one of the boxes. And I loved how she created a folder to store the dies. With each in a pocket and a sample of the coordinating stamp on it.
There are going to be some amazing treasures in there I'm sure. I may wait for most of them to get uploaded and then let them play in the background when I'm crafting some time.

YT wants me to watch that too, but I'm not a fan of vertical/handheld videos.
re: going through stash - even if someone recognizes or respect the value of them to you and other crafters, they're not going to love them the same way the person who collected them loved them.
And when someone passes away or has to downsize dramatically there's just no way not to be overwhelmed by the volume of a person's things, loved or not. I think of how overwhelming it is to unpack after vacation or to move a room's worth of stuff to replace the flooring... and that's a lot less stuff, a lot less random, and without grief weighing on you.
I cleaned out my MIL's (very organized but very large) crafty office after she died and wholeheartedly wished she'd blessed other crafters she knew with her precious things while she was still around. We did our best but we only had so much time, energy, knowledge, and contacts to be able to redistribute it.

Anywhere kind of near Orange County?

re: going through stash - even if someone recognizes or respect the value of them to you and other crafters, they're not going to love them the same way the person who collected them loved them. Agreed, however I think I figured out what bothers me about this particular lady. She spent at least two videos expounding on how connected she felt with the original 80-year old crafter, how they cried together, spent time reminiscing, etc - but that care does not reflect in her actions towards elder lady's things. Most of the people I've seen at thrift stores and garage sales are less cavalier about dumping out bins and digging through stuff than she. That's what bugs me. Feels as if she's rushing through the bin like there's some kind of invisible deadline or someone silently yelling at her to go faster. Does Tiktok have a time limit or something?
Even if it's for purely capitalistic motivation, you shouldn't be treating your new stock poorly. Damage is going to reduce the eventual selling price. And technically it's not even her stuff yet, since it's still being paid for.

I will check out the link. i've only been there once but i got a bunch of wood mounted stamps. they give you a paper lunch sack and you fill it for $5.00. i was shocked at how much i could Jenga into that sack. LOL. i also bought a 7gypsies bindery machine for $3.00. they have all kinds of craft sections and it supports a good cause so it was a nice little drive for us. DH even bought stuff in the office supply section. i have a box of SB paper and embellishments that i plan on donating this summer.

I couldn't even watch one video. I am a little over an hour away if I use the 210. Hmm...might need to take a drive out there this summer and check it out.

Looks like the series creator is taking feedback on board - video eleven is horizontal and she appears to be taking more time with the items and not rifling as much. I can’t stop I feel like I’m binging a tv series 😂

Some people just aren’t as careful, I guess. I find that hard to watch too. And agree that it’s not good for things you want to resell. and yes, there are time limits on TikToks, Reels, and YT Shorts, and they’re all different of course! (and they change from time to time). She might’ve been trying to fit the length into one of those formats.
