I thought there was mention of it somewhere else, but not since the actual album drop.
I've been listening to it since Friday. Thoughts?
I haven't purchased a "Beyonce" album since Destiny's Child, but her "Texas Hold'Em" was enough for me to purchase this one.
Favorites: Protector, Texas Hold'Em, Jolene, Alliigator Tears, and Most Wanted. Although Ya Ya is up there.

I've only heard good things about it. Country music isn't my jam so I don't have it but I think it's going to be a Beyonce Summer.

Never been a Beyonce fan. Taxes Hold 'Em was ok but had many of the elements about her music that I don't like. So I haven't listened to the album. But I enjoy the meaningful conversation that her 2nd foray into country music is creating

I’m not a fan of country music. Beyoncé’s music has never been my thing. Not hating on her at all. I respect her hustle and what she’s built, most of her music is just not what I gravitate to. But with all the hype, I had to give Cowboy Carter a listen.
It’s outstanding. I wouldn’t call it a country album per se. Many of the songs have a country slant which might get them on country radio. Those that don’t have a bigotry issue among management or their audience, anyways. But I don’t hear it as “country music”. It’s just good music.
I really like Protector and her cover of Blackbird.

I'm not really a Beyonce fan. I do love country music.. I think her Texas song is catchy and I like it.. that is as far as it goes.

Really lovely cover of The Beatles' Blackbird. And meaningful if you know the history behind the song.

I found it all very easy to listen to. Beyonce is very talented. I did like her updates to Jolene. I liked Blackbird, I haven’t yet bought the album but everything I’ve heard in it so far I’ve liked.
I don’t know what the big uproar was over it.
The only thing I’m not really fond of is the picture ( the r,w&b outfit on the horse ) but I also don’t find that awful either - just seems rather contrived to me, maybe too photo shopped. But it’s fine, she likes it so my take doesn’t matter.

I like country music and I wouldn’t necessarily call this country (same as most of the newer country artists) but I like a lot of these songs.

Is this going to be played on country radio because so far I haven't heard any of it? I only listen in the car so maybe nothing has been played yet. They tend to play the same 3 or 4 artists over and over. If I was in the car more, I'd get a subscription service. Will have to check it out online.

My first thought in listening my way through the album is that is sounds like the soundtrack to a Broadway musical.
She really shows her vocal range and some of the songs just feel big and showy. I like it overall!

I'm not someone who listens to current Beyonce. I did like her country song on Lemonade. In my opinion Texas Hold 'em is a shit song in any genre. Its the only song on the new album I've heard.

I'm a country music fan and I do not like Texas Hold-em. I heard it on the radio and did not know it was a Beyonce song at the time and thought what in the world is this song lol. Not a fan. I would like to hear her version of Jolene and Blackbird so I'll be listening to the rest of the album.

I’ve only heard a few snippets on IG, and have liked what I’ve heard. But I mostly listen to music in the car. I also haven’t purchased an album in more years than I am count, but I’m considering buying this one just to support her. And I’m not a Beyonce fan. (I don’t dislike her either but I don’t go out of my way to listen to her music). Country music needs change.

Country music needs change. Yes ma'am. Not a fan of what ive heard so far... didnt like texas hold em... was ehhh on Jolene... haven't heard anything else... It's unusual for me to just love a song the first time I hear it. I have to listen a few times and let it marinade in my heart and my brain. Some people listen for the beat (my DH), some people listen for the lyrics, but I'm a whole package kinda gal. That's part of why I didn't post on Friday, I needed the weekend to listen to it a few times. Texas Hold'Em, to me, was the type of song my old PE teachers in Alabama would have us learn a line dance to on our side of the gym. It's certainly better than the freaking "Chattahoochee" song they played on repeat for us to learn. >.<

Firstly, I'd like to say that Beyonce is very talented, and has a great voice, and I admire her for her success. However, her normal music is not a genre I listen to. I LOVE the song she did with Jay Z (Crazy in Love??), but I haven't really liked any of her other songs. Country music is also not a genre I listen to. I was excited to read on this thread that she did a cover of one of my very favourite Beatles songs, Blackbird. I just listened to it, with high hopes. Meh. It's okay, I guess. I also listened to her version of Jolene, and I like it a lot.

Texas Hold 'Em is so fun. I have always loved Beyonce. My girls were pre-teens and loved to skate to Destiny's Child. I'd back out all the trucks from the shop and we'd sweep the floor good and the skates came out during the long winters when there wasn't anything fit to do outside! Every time I hear those songs it gives me happy memories!
Beyonce as performer is phenomenal. I am just not crazy about her versions of Joleen and BlackBird. I know I will get a lot of pushback on this - but her voice just isn't what is needed for those songs. Or maybe the originals are so engrained in my senses, that it just hits wrong because of that. I like Miley's version of Joleen, but Dolly's is always going to be the pinnacle. The meaning behind BlackBird and her performance will outweigh the lacking vocal on it, I am sure.

I think her version of Jolene is a travesty, the lyrics don't fit the music at all and it turns into a shambles.

I want to like it. But I'm not a fan of any of the very slick, overly (IMO) produced "country" music popular at the moment, and this fits in that category to me.
I like a more stripped down, old-school country sound. These days that's alt-country or Americana or just plain rock and roll with a twangy accent. Just personal preference.

I am liking it, but FWIW, while there are definitely country music artists and albums I like, I'm not generally a country music person/expert.

Country music needs change. are you saying country music needs to change back to the old ways? I have listened to country music since I was a kid. I lived in Nashville. Been to the Opry dozens of times. Around the 1980s when Alabama came onto the scene, everyone hated them because they didn't 'sound' country. It happens every single time there is a new sound in country music.. .Alabama, Restless Heart.. then comes Garth Brooks, everyone complains about music changing. But if it doesn't change we are still listening to the same thing. I totally embrace the changes. Some I do not like. Some I do. I like Garth, Luke Bryan, Luke Combs, Carrie Underwood, previously of course Taylor Swift who isn't country anymore, now Beyonce singing it. I haven't heard enough (of Beyonce) to make an opinion about it but music is music, it change and evolves over time. I personally still love the late 80s country the most. You can like any decade of it and prefer the old traditional ways or love the newer ways. It doesn't matter... everything changes.

Just listened to Jolene... didn't like it. I do like it when Miley Cyrus sings it, probably my favorite version. Funny enough, I never liked the song until I heard Miley sing it. Now I have come to really enjoy it. But I don't like Beyonce's version.

I'm not a Beyonce fan, and I'm not a country fan. I've seen multiple TikToks of it compared to Hey it's Franklin (a kids show here in Canada) and agree it sounds like that.
And I'm tired of all the TikToks using it for EVERYTHING since it is trending. I just scroll on by lol.
