dawnnikol DH and I still love dancing and singing to that song, such a rush! workingclassdog Not at all, I actually like some of the more polished country that’s out these days. I’m saying it’s very insular. And there is still a lot of racism, sexism, etc. present.

I love Beyonce I don't like country for the most part (the twangier it gets, the more irritating it is to me)
I'm not sure I care about this album though. I only heard one snippet of Texas Hold 'em and I didn't like it. I haven't even heard the whole Beyonce Jolene, but I have to say Miley really did it best.

I’m not a country fan but DH likes it so we hear it plenty on the radio when we’re all in his truck. I didn’t mind Garth and some of the others from that era back in the day. I mostly listen to an alternative station in my car so I knew it would only be a matter of time before some of the Cowboy Carter songs started being aired since they also play some Kane Brown, Jelly Roll, Luke Combs and a few other crossover type singers. Yesterday was that day, and I heard the Texas Hold ‘Em song. It was just meh to me. Just looked up all three versions Jolene on YouTube (Dolly, Miley, Beyoncé), and really no one compares to Dolly on that one although Miley comes closer. My tastes skew more toward Maroon 5, Jason Mraz, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake.
I understand what she’s trying to do and can appreciate that, since she has the star power, the backing and the money to even attempt it. From what I’ve read and heard, the sexism and racial bias in country music is pretty deep seated so it will be interesting to see what happens.

I want to like it. But I'm not a fan of any of the very slick, overly (IMO) produced "country" music popular at the moment, and this fits in that category to me. I like a more stripped down, old-school country sound. These days that's alt-country or Americana or just plain rock and roll with a twangy accent. Just personal preference. I like the alt-country/folk/Americana country that is out right now, and I like some of the old-time country songs, but I don't care for the vast majority of mainstream country from the last 40+ years---with an occasional anomaly that I find fun or poignant. What I have heard of Beyonce so far? I can appreciate what she is doing goes against the culture of country but the style is mainstream/produced (like her pop-style). Texas Hold-em is fun and catchy and a little purposely kitche and that makes it bearable. I have only heard a couple of other songs briefly. I will have to check them out to make a final verdict.

Do not like her at all, and that stupid Texas Hold'em song is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

I'm not a Beyonce fan, and I'm not a country fan. I've seen multiple TikToks of it compared to Hey it's Franklin (a kids show here in Canada) and agree it sounds like that. And I'm tired of all the TikToks using it for EVERYTHING since it is trending. I just scroll on by lol. Once I saw/heard the Franklin comparison, I couldn't stop hearing it every time the song is on. I guess we should just be thankful she didn't do something that sounds like Caillou I'm a fan of 70s country, mostly, and 80s and 90s as well, so I don't much listen to the new stuff. I do quite love "You Can Have Him Jolene" by Chapel Hart ... I always hated the 'fight for your man' trope! (Otherwise, Dolly's pretty awesome!) I won't be going out of my way to listen to/purchase Beyonce's album, but if it comes on when I'm with dh in the vehicle, I won't make him change stations like I sometimes do

She's talented overall, but I really dislike the 4 or so songs I've heard. It's just the feel of it, somehow. It's nothing against her or racism or any of the things that some people have been saying. In fact, the first time I heard Texas Hold'em, I didn't know it was her and thought how awful it was. I also understand others liking it. But I don't.

I do not like current country other than Thomas Rhett and Little Big Town. Give me Alan Jackson and Chattahoochee anyday along with Martina McBride and her power house voice! And Dolly will always have the best version of Jolene.

Not a beyonce fan(or Jay-Z either but this isn't about him), I won't go out of my way to listen to any of it. I don't like the one they're playing on the radio.

I am not a fan of Beyonce's music in general and don't seek it out. We listened to Cowboy Carter this week and I thought it sounded more 70s rock than country (of any time period). I grew up with a parent that listened to 80s/90s country (no thank you!). DW listens to a lot of "traditional"/old country. I think mostly because it's easy to find on vinyl for cheap. I tend to hide in my craft room when it comes on. I do enjoy modern folk/Americana (stuff like Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile, The Decemberists and Nickel Creek) and my favorite cover of Jolene is by Mindy Smith. I also enjoy Taylor Swift but don't like her country stuff at all.

I am a fan of Beyonce as a person, not her music though. Just not my style. The only country I like is actual old country, Patsy Cline, Lefty Frizell, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Hank Williams, etc I do like Jolene and am interested in hearing her take. I might have to listen just so I can see what the fuss is about, both ways.

The only thing I’m not really fond of is the picture ( the r,w&b outfit on the horse ) but I also don’t find that awful either - just seems rather contrived to me, maybe too photo shopped. But it’s fine, she likes it so my take doesn’t matter. That picture drives me nuts. It's just way too fake looking and I think Beyonce's expression in the photo is terrible.
