I haven’t had a chance to watch the collab videos yet to see if anyone else came up with this tip, but I noticed right away that this sketch will work well to mix 12x12 and 6x6. I’m using 2 Doodlebug petite prints (tone on tone) for the PPA background paper which yields 12 panels, and I cut up 3 very busy 6x6 papers into 3x3s to yield 12 for the PPB piece.
This works well if you prefer a more consistent look for which paper is in front vs behind. Also minimal waste. I’ll post again when I’m done assembling!

I would really love to get some ideas for the extra 10 points challenges. I don't even know how many of us collecting this, but I'm running out of ideas. Thanks in advance.

Maybe using a specific color? Popping something up? Using a specific seasonal shape on the card (flowers in May, stars in July, snowflakes in Dec)? It doesn’t have to be complicated. And I don’t think any of us would mind if you rerun them every few months.

So, a THIRD patterned paper?! Creative Chelsea on the Sheetload YT collab team used a floral that tied together the two final papers she used and it looked really nice.

Maybe using a specific color? Popping something up? Using a specific seasonal shape on the card (flowers in May, stars in July, snowflakes in Dec)? It doesn’t have to be complicated. And I don’t think any of us would mind if you rerun them every few months. I was just coming back here because I realized I'd forgotten to respond to this question, but my response was going to be similar. I was thinking I like when you do things like "use seasonal colors" or "a spring theme." Then I realized you did exactly that for March and I followed that prompt...and forgot to take my bonus points. Doh! I have known issues once we get to a sketch with three patterned papers, partially because of the haphazard way I collect them and my stubbornness about not giving up on them or something like that. While I like the ones that are about color and theme, technique and product prompts are fine too. They will inevitably be uncomfortable/unattainable for or uninteresting to some of the crafters sometimes. I don't promise to stop griping a bit , but I don't expect my every whim to be catered to either! EtA: I thought about it some more after posting and realized how tough it must be to keep coming up with the extra challenge EVERY month. Were it me, I would probably develop a rotation: color scheme, technique, theme, product, etc. Pick a challenge from a category, then the next category the next month, then begin again when you've cycled through all the categories.

Shakti sorry for making this more difficult for you. I buy paper pads from Michael's and Joanns and those have a lot of coordinating patterns. I used a cut apart paper for the focal point so you can do that. For the 3.25x3.25 pieces I cut up a page where they have a big image on the bottom and top. Its definitely for scrapbooking but loved the light pink and polka-dot design background. On my pictures doesn't really show up but you can see it in person. I have used woodgrain paper as a mat before or just a very light tone on tone pp. When you get paper pads there is a lot of these too. Not sure how you buy paper but maybe you want to get one of the paper pads and see if it helps you with the choosing. And if you absolutely don't like a pattern in the pad you can make envelopes and bags out of it or just turn it around and use the white side for matting or for stamping sentiments because usually its the perfectly matching white for the designs.

I like that idea Shakti. I will sit down and do something like that. The card making group that I belong to it's going to choose themes for every month to help with the creative block. We have members who are just doing the same thing every month and hopefully this will help to shake things up. I might even follow that for my challenges.

I think I did manage a three pattern sketch recently, so I'm getting better I do get some pads from Michael's, fewer from Joann. I do have one from Michael's that almost entirely woodgrain and similar background patterns. Which I always forget about In the first year I was back into crafting I bought all kinds of crazy stuff on sale. I had nothing, so everything looked good. I bought (or maybe some of this was freebies) a 12x12 pack clearly made for scrapbooking and 3 6x6 packs from Altenew. They are nice and heavy weight, although 3 are glossy in a way that bugs me (and I don't mind the gloss on Club Scrap's patterns). Anyway, I found some that work here and since they're going to be donated to an Altnew drive it seemed appropriate to use them.. IF I can find a focal sentiment that can be die cut, I think I could make circles/ovals from the backside of the 12x12 I used. But right now I think I want a stamped one. I am verbose today, and yet, I'm adding on to this post. I found it easier to align the halve square before the large PP was on the card base, which I thought was the opposite of what Al did in the video. Of course, I watched the video shortly after arriving home yesterday, so I may not have been fully compos mentis.

Of course, I watched the video shortly after arriving home yesterday, so I may not have been fully compos mentis. I'm pretty sure in the video she put down the background and then put down the split square. That's how I did it and I got a bit frustrated (as I always do) trying to use my t-square ruler to get things lined up. I'll try putting the split square down on the background first next time. "so preoccupied with whether or not I could add a third pp, I didn't stop to think if should." Jurassic Parking! That made me laugh

Still don't know if I should've, but I did. They are bright and cheery and going to older folks in nursing homes, so I'm going to say it works:

Sorry the photos are not the greatest but I already had to re-do it once... I didn't like the light and then noticed that I wanted to add some extra hearts to several cards (as predicted). I used two 12x12 petite prints for the backgrounds and three 6x6 papers with busy patterns to make 12 cards. I had a few hassles with the vellum and the ovals. Next time I'll probably do something a bit different. I'm wondering if the mats would look better in a mid-tone. I like the black with this paper pad and I didn't have any matching cardstock to use other than white, but I might experiment with my next set. They definitely work Shakti ! Especially for seniors. Bold colors and I love that sentiment. Thank you! I really struggled with the sentiment. Altenew showed a lot of "hugs" or "you are loved" sorts of things, but they seemed to make too strong a statement for a card I was going to sign and then have sent to someone I didn't know. I mean, I know I overthink things, but if you're in a nursing home and getting a mother's or father's day card from someone you don't know, isn't there someone who should be sending you one and isn't? Couldn't "you are loved" actually remind you that maybe you aren't? Anyway, I tore the entire craft room apart looking for a sentiment that I thought set the right tone and was big and bold enough to work with all that was goin' on there. It's from a Spellbinders birthday set.

It's from a Spellbinders birthday set. I totally overthink sentiments this way too!! I don't even want to assume that everyone is a parent or that their children are living, so I want to keep things really neutral but still cheerful. Inside the cards I already made I've written and stamped "hope your day is just as wonderful as you are" and I'm tending towards using " on mother's or father's day..." because it's more inclusive of people who maybe aren't parents. I like the very generic "sending you smiles across the miles" or maybe (someone is) thinking of you on mother's/father's day. I'm probably going to be computer printing my own sentiments to get around the problem, especially if I'm trying to fit a long tall oval.

See, I was figuring that the people giving out the cards would only give them to folks who were parents, but I suppose it doesn't actually say that in any of Altenew's posts.
I (obviously) gave up on the oval. I realized I could have done a wide oval, but by then I'd already cut the background PP with the pattern going vertically, so I was kind of screwed.

I had a card started with a panel of Shimelle MCE floral paper and decided to try adding a woodgrain piece to it. I didn't have anything else that matched but tbh I'm not sure how well the woodgrain goes either. It did prove the point that this sketch is nice with large 12x12 florals in the background. Since I had cut that woodgrain above into 4 pieces I figured I’d use it up to make 3 more Sheetload cards. I wanted to use the “hi” cover plate die I got free from scrapbook dot com (I cut the frame off). I got a bit control-freaky about lining it up with the open loops of the letters, so I built a vellum mat layer base to stick things down to and left it as a full piece on a couple of the cards. Super simple cards, gender neutral/masc. April share by jo.blackford, on Flickr April share by jo.blackford, on Flickr

I tried out the Sheetload with a sheet of paper I bought a lot of. The only issue I have is that I haven't found any matching papers to coordinate and the b-side is completely useless... white paper with hand drawn eyes? ugh. So I tried stamping the b-side with some coordinating inks to make it more usable. Not a resounding success but also not a complete failure. Might've been better off using a brightly colored matting layer. I might try stenciling over the b-side the next time I want to use it.
