Now that it’s almost upon us they have data to be more accurate about the eclipse, and it looks like the viewing area and duration has shifted a bit. There is a tool in this article to enter your address to get a little detail. The viewing area has shifted a bit east, for Texas peas I noticed that it seems some DFW peas (Denton area) may not have totality, whereas some Austin area peas might. www.cnn.com/interactive/2024/02/world/solar-eclipse-2024-map-dg-scn/It didn’t change much for us, we are still in the path of totality, but the duration is about 25 seconds shorter. The longest duration seems to be 4 minutes now. However, it looks like our little town won’t be inundated nearly as much as they anticipated, and that is a great thing. The anticipated number of visitors will hopefully be about half what it was. Last fall all of our hotels were supposed to be booked, but now there are plenty available. At ridiculous rates. So I do hate it somewhat for our retailers. But for safety concerns and those that don’t have the option to take the day off, this is a load off. However, while we live in the area in the entire country with the smallest chance of rain on average…last I checked it was partly cloudy with around 38% chance of afternoon thunderstorms on Monday. I knew that would happen.

I am not sure if our totality is affected, but our weather (we are in Collin County, TX) is supposed to be cloudy and rainy. I am so disappointed! My sister is coming from CO and she is considering not coming now. It is so hard to predict if we will be able to see or not.

This is the first time I looked at the trajectory. Thanks for sending! I guess we will see more in the Northeast than I was expecting. Now I will need some glasses...

If you, or anyone you know, have a premium weather.com account I just noticed that you can get weather data by hour farther out. Right now I can only see through Thursday, but I think it’s a week out with an account. Not of course that’s not 100% accurate, but it can give you a little more detail before she cancels her flight. eta: best I can tell from looking at the map you’re still easily in the path of totality except for a small section of the NW corner of the county.

I am an eclipse curmudgeon this year. I'm glad we're not in the path of totality so we don't get inundated, but we'll still be at 85-90%. I'm hoping for total cloud cover. The grade level I teach during the prime viewing time is preparing for a concert and we can't afford to waste a class period standing outside looking at the sky. We just had a total eclipse in 2017 and a pretty good partial one last year, so I'm not really feeling a huge hankering to go out and look at this one. Bah humbug!

In addition to the recent ones, we've also seen some lunar and solar eclipses while we were expats so I'm good. Supposed to rain/be cloudy that day anyway.

But I’ve been like you before for some partial eclipses, couldn’t even be bothered to go outside when I couldn’t see it through the window ps. Take your kids outside this is a big deal!

I am in the 95-100% view. ( between Buffalo and Rochester, New York.) there’s signs all over the place about staying off the roads because they know people are gonna stop and it’s gonna be interesting. I’m just gonna sit on my deck.

I’m just gonna sit on my deck. I think that’s what all the cities and towns in the path of totality say. There is one pretty much dead center (Kerrville, tx) that says that. You and me both. We are staying home and grilling. We weren’t planning on leaving the house from Friday, but it looks like DH has to work on Sunday. Since they have downgraded the number of people we are hopeful he can drive but he might end up walking or biking to work.

We haven’t been in a path of totality in my lifetime. We are at 95% and should hit at 3:15pm or so. School gets out at 3:20 and the school still thinks the pickup lane in pitch black with little lighting will be just fine.
I have zero interest in driving within +\- 1hr of totality. I’m thinking I will pull the kids at lunch and just head home. People are idiots and I don’t want to be driving around.
I think it will be cool but I’m more annoyed the school thinks it is nothing and totally fine to do normal end of day right at the blackout point.

I am not sure if our path has changed but my town is still in 100% totality path and we are in totality for 3 minutes and 14 seconds the last I saw.
I was so sure that we would have clouds or storms as that is our normal April weather. We are going to have a major snow storm tomorrow night until Friday and maybe a bit into Saturday (6 inches to feet depending where you are) but things are suppose to clear by Sunday and Monday is supposed to be nice/sunny and in the 50s maybe. Hoping the forecast for Monday stays nice. 🤞. I hope everyone in the path gets prime viewing.

He texted his coach and found out it was moved, which relieved me. I dont need them driving up to DC area in that time and then tee-off (and we are only in the 85% I think)

Where I am it will only be about 65-70% so it isn’t as big of a deal here. When it’s at its peak the kids here will still be in school and no one has said anything about going out to look at it. Supposedly it will be from 12:50-3:15 for the duration. School gets out at 2:20 so buses will be taking kids home during that last hour.
I didn’t realize it before looking at the CNN map but our neighbor at the lake will be very close to the path of totality at her winter home in IL. I didn’t know the path came that close!

In 2017 (I think that was the year) my friend and I drove to NW Missouri to see a total solar eclipse. Dallas (Texas) was getting a large % but not total. We had cirrus clouds in Missouri but were able to see it. DH at home saw as much as we did I think.
Last October we saw the solar eclipse that was a large %.
Now, there is a good possibility that we have rain on Monday, the 8th.
My grand nephew (or is it great nephew?) and his college friends are driving from Colorado Springs to Texas to see the eclipse. I do hope they get to see something.
It is very exciting to see this unusual event...if you enjoy science.

We're in the 85-90% band, but its also currently forecast to be cloudy and raining (but our rain predictions are consistently wrong, so I should take that to mean bright and sunny). I have glasses, and it will be fun to watch even if it isn't total.
For kids though - watching the near-total eclipse in 1984 (5th grade) is a key memory for me, so I hope visibility is good for those who are in the path. My class went to a classmates house in Louisiana to watch.

I'm in NY and we are supposed to be in its path right around 2:45-3:30 or something like that (I don't care enough to check) so they made the decision to end all schools 90 min early on Monday so kids, especially elementary age, aren't outside at the peak. My HS daughter gets out at 1pm that day. Sports are not allowed to resume until 4pm.

The campsite we have booked at a COE campground is still in the path of totality. Now, the weather is a different matter. It has improved for 70% to only 30% chance of rain and partly cloudy in the morning. Hoping it continues to improve.

I'm kind of bummed because I would be in totality if I was going to be home. I'm flying back from VA that day so we'll have 85% coverage but I think it will be when I'm on my way to the airport. I bought glasses just in case but the eclipse will mostly be a non event for me.

I noticed one woman in the picture in your link looking up without the special glasses on. What about all the school kids that don't have glasses. I worry about their eye health. We're in NorCal so I think we get about 30% at most.

We're in NorCal so I think we get about 30% at most. I would hope if schools are letting kids outside that they’re providing glasses. But they still can’t stop kids from taking them off. I’ve been wondering if schools are asking for a lot of parent volunteers. We are down to partly cloudy with a 24% chance of rain. So still luck of the draw as to whether we can see the eclipse when it occurs from our home, but looking a bit better.

I’m within 15 miles of totality, so I’ll stay home and enjoy what we get. Weather right now is mostly sunny with a high of 76, hoping it stays that way. My DD is going to Niagara Falls, I’m too old to deal with that kind of traffic.

I am in the area of totality and apparently traffic is going to be really crazy. I will stay at home.
I live close to a fire station and to a major highway ~ enough said.
I'm glad that the schools are closed for the day and that this was decided in January so that parents' could make alternate arrangements.
Everyone that I know is going to work at home because the tourist crazy driving people are nutty around here.

It didn’t change for us. We are in the path of totality and I’m excited. Schools are closed and they’re saying traffic could be awful so plan to stay off roads. We really don’t know what to expect but I’m looking forward to it. I just saw on the news that airline tickets to our city are extremely high. My daughter is off work and will be coming over Monday morning and we will sit outside, listen to music ( I made a playlist!) and snack while waiting. Should be interesting and fun!
