4/16/24 - I tried Perfect Pearls, Cosmic Shimmer Opal Polish and Wink of Stella. The winner is...Wink of Stella.
The Cosmic shimmer was a bit too opaque and I couldn't use the Perfect Pearls without being too heavy handed. I found some Perfect Pearls sprays in my stash and even then I couldn't get it right. The Stella was a bit more glittery than I was looking for, but it was also the easiest for me to apply.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions!
Hi Peas,
I'd like to add a few sheer metallic touches to some stenciled images. I'd like the finished product to have a bit of glimmer, not a heavy coating.
What do you recommend?
Thanks!

If you want subtle, could you use metallic ink? I do that often. Otherwise if you want a little more, maybe a light coating of a glitter paste to one layer of the stencil?

I was going to suggest Delicata. I love them for stamping sentiments, but also use them for ink blending details with stencils. Yes, them — I’m up to five.

Solar Paste by Simon Hurley. It can be stamped on or stenciled. There is Lunar Paste but it is opaque though it blends well with many inks. So nice and shimmery. Simon Hurley/Ranger has some informative videos on using these pastes. I am addicted.

Here's an example of 6 of the colors on a weird shade of pink cardstock. The pink shows through more straight on but the shimmer shows on an angle. If you use it over (reactive?) ink it can pick up the color of the ink but you also get the colored mica shimmer. March share by jo.blackford, on Flickr The golden hour one smeared over yellow reactive ink through a stencil: Feb share solarpaste by jo.blackford, on Flickr ETA - not exactly metallic though, so it might not be what you're looking for.

A method I've done is to spray a bit, just a little, of sheer shimmer sprayor the liquid shimmer that comes in reinker bottles onto your craft mat or work surface. Swirl an ink blending brush in the shimmer then lightly brush it over your stencil. The trick is to make sure not to completely saturate your brush.

That method would probably also work with a paintbrush like you would use to watercolor with a stencil.

Perfect Pearls gives sort of a metallic shine. You could stencil the the layer with dye ink, leaving the stencil in place wipe it clean, then go over it with Versamark. After that brush on some Perfect Pearls. There are various colors of Perfect Pearls so you can get the look you are going for.

I think Jennifer McGuire also makes her own shimmer spray with Perfect Pearls and...water? Maybe some other liquid? Which also implies you should be able to pour some out onto a palette, mix with [liquid] and paint on with a brush.
I personally use Perfect Pearls over Versafine Clair colored pigment inks with good results. Don't know why I didn't remember to suggest that. Sorry. Would probably work over any colored pigment ink that stays damp just long enough to grab the powder.
And, no, I'm not actually on Tsukineko's payroll....

I tried this but I didn't use a paintbrush That was a mistake! Will try again this weekend. Great idea though!
