We are remodeling a house (fixer upper to the 100th degree). We plan to live there after the reno is finished. We are down to the studs in most rooms and have some foundation work to do (just discovered).
Anyway, I'm to the point where I'm designing the kitchen and bathroom and I need some help.
All the active facebook groups are public. And I don't like posting on facebook about my life. I prefer a private group so my friends don't make stupid comments on my posts.
Do you know of any good ones where I can post pictures and ask questions?
Nothing structural. We have that down thanks to DH.
I'd appreciate a little help.
Also learned the hard way that there is a home design game and there are lots of facebook groups where people are only talking about the game. Oops.

At one time I think you could input the measurements for kitchen online at Ikea and see what it could look like. When we decided to renovate we checked out show homes for ideas. We like sliding drawers with shelves and one with an insert to keep cookie sheets in. We made a pull out shelf under the microwave to stir food and give extra quick counter space in the kitchen.

I know a good website I like to visit.. they are a young'ish couple that have done several home DYI remodels. I don't think there is a message board type thing though. They were popular for a bit and had some books out and a small line at Target (I think just paint) a few years ago. Young House Love is their website. There is a ton on there that are not difficult to do.

Gennifer aren't you on a couple home decor groups online? All the ones I can think of (and use) are not private on FB.

Iโm not, or if I am I unfollowed them and donโt realize Iโm in them. ๐
I follow a lot of decor accounts on IG, but Iโm using them for inspiration, and not really looking for a forum-type setting where I can ask questions.

Oh, I also did find a good group on Facebook today after scrolling and scrolling. Everyone there is so much nicer than the first group I found.
So it's a start!

Oh I do follow on FB "Handy Women".. there is a lot of "how to do or fix" stuff. Not sure if you are interested but it has definitely helped my DD when fixing things around the house.

She does a LOT of ikea hacks. Then I follow the hashtag mcmkitchen but it's mostly people selling stupid bowls they thrifted. I follow houseofhipster Our style is midcentury modern but with no kitsch. I would call it new york subway chic. Not afraid of color but I don't always know what to do with it either.

I have used Gardenweb. There's numerous categories to filter. I spend a lot of time on there when I'm trying to get decorating ideas, etc but people give recommendations on kitchen layouts, etc so it can get detailed if you want.

I've gotten some great advice from them. That is, except for the time some snotty designer said I should discard all my furniture and start over. ๐

I use Houzz forums. I believe it merged with gardenweb several years ago. Some forums are more active than others but you can cross post.
If you are looking to mock up your design, I highly recommend the 3D Home design app. Itโs very valuable to visualizing the project in a 3D way. We paid for the gold version and it was great! My kids taught me how to use it. My oldest was 11/12 at the time.

We had just gotten several rooms of new furniture and have a lot of Asian antiques and other stuff we've brought back from travels. She probably thought it was a crazy lady house that should be a cool gray color scheme with light wood furniture and minimal accessories like a California beach house in the movies.

Not the same thing but I absolutely LOVE when people post AI designs because I love to look for the errors. AI is getting really good, but there are still obvious "tells" that are getting harder and harder to spot.
One of my doctors I've visited a lot lately uses some AI screen saver with light jazz and I'm just mesmerized by those things. They're of fabulous homes with cool modern decor and designs in some impossibly beautiful setting. It's like those old "find what's wrong with this picture" things. The table is floating, or the light is not quite sitting right on the table, or the plants in the woods aren't possible in that setting, or some other thing you have to look at to notice.
I wish I knew where they get those. I can stare at them forever.

Grey, so that it would be out of date by 2023? You're so much smarter to use favorites from your travels! Besides, she must not be experienced, any professional with a sense of history knows grey is a residential colorway with an extremely short lifespan. Grey is fine if you like it, I've lived with white through periods others have said it looked like an asylum. Do I care? No. It's your house, make it comfortable for you! Sorry for the rant, it's an issue that peeves me. Live with the things you love and make you feel at home. Whether it's a 70's orange and avocado "tiffany" lamp, a woven hyacinth basket from Home Goods, or your Grandmother's favorite brass clock. geez Sorry, this peeves me so much.

Bumping this thread for more ideas...YouTube, IG, favorite places to shop, etc.
I just started following emmacourtneyhome, thanks for the recommendation on this thread.
I also follow Kristen McGowan on YouTube and enjoy her style.
We have a new house that is basically a blank slate. We'll be buying new dining room and living room furniture.
