I have been with Citibank for years. Like 40+. Today I got the text I dread... "Did you charge $2,540 x3 at Best Buy this morning?" I type back 2-no and my card is instantly cancelled (for which I am happy). I next get links to call the fraud department and a link for a new credit card. I know many CC companies do this. Citbank has done this three times with Best Buy, airfare to Turkey and 20+ gift cards to Wendy's and Taco Bell. I don't check my bill everyday, so I could miss some of these. If I travel and buy airfare using my credit card, they let me know my credit card will be able to be used in the area without me notifying them
So when I go online, they have a new number for me already (with the ccv number). The card will be here in two days (and a description of the nondescript envelope it will come in). And I get a list of places (13) specific to my account that have already been notified of my change of card number as well as list of places that I will need to contact. Only two places I actually have to change myself that are monthly charges.
I love that Citibank already takes care of so much of this for me. I also earn points that go $$$ to Amazon. When I buy gas or go to Walmart, the screen will ask if I want to use points as well.
Honestly their good service and perks just keep me with this company. I pay off my credit card every month, so they aren't making any money off of me. But I do know they do make a lot of money.
This has happened to me three times in maybe the last 12-15 years and I appreciate how they keep updating their services. Last time I had to call everyone. It took me a long time to get it changed.
I don't work for Citibank, but I do think good company service should be acknowledged.

That is good to know. We have a Citibank card and so far, knock wood, we haven’t been compromised. But it is nice to know they take care of you!
P.S. We have notifications turned on so that we get a text even if $1 is charged to the card. You may want to look into that feature for the new card.

At Walmart, if I use my Citicard, they ask if I want to use 2500 points, for example ,to take $20 off my bill.
Hell, no. I would lose $5 that way. If I cash them as a credit to my statement, it only takes 2000 points to get a $20 credit. Be careful what they are asking.

It’s always nice to hear of great customer service.
And, they do make money off you. Every time you use your card they make money.

That’s great that they have such good customer service - what a lovely thing to hear about.
I guess there were no links for you to click in the text, because that’s such a no-no in these days of scams; though quoting the amount of each payment would certainly help you to be confident the text really was from your bank. You said they gave phone numbers to call their fraud department - it would be good if they gave numbers that could be verified by going to their website to check.
It must be such a fine line between giving such excellent customer service, and asking people to click blindly on links.
But gosh, it sounds like your bank really does look after their customers - good on them. And good on you for acknowledging them!

It gave me the option of calling or clicking and then going from there. It was not from my bank. It was from the Credit Card company-it just sounds like a bank. I did see the charges pending on my card before I clicked. It first asks if I charged X amount in the text. If I click yes or no, it sends me a new text. I went to my app and the charges were on there so I knew it was legit. I am glad that they let me know immediately. I have been called before when I got a text and gave the woman such a hard time she laughed and told me she appreciated me trying to find out if she was legit or not.

Good on you, you obviously know what you’re doing - and just as importantly (or maybe even more importantly) so does the credit card company!
