So annoyed. I picked up a call from a number I didn't recognize because I've been expecting a call re: dog behaviorist, and it turned out to be a political poll. I had nothing going on, so I went ahead and did the poll.
First they asked standard questions about if you voted in the primaries and if you're likely to vote in the upcoming runoff elections. Yes I did and yes I am. The poll was in regards to two Democratic runoff candidates for my state house district. The incumbent voted frequently with the Republicans on important issues and is now receiving campaign donations from far right billionaires. The challenger's platform aligns with the TX Democratic platform, which seems like a reasonable thing for a Democratic candidate to do.
Anyway, the last half of the poll was asking if certain things made you more or less likely to vote for the candidate. They brought up seemingly positive things about the incumbent and only negative things about the challenger. I ended up telling the pollster that I already knew who I was voting for, and I knew the reasons why, and none of this was going to change my mind.
So that was all very annoying. Has this happened to anyone else?

Uhg. Sorry you had to pick up your phone. Hope you get the dog well & happy. This won't happen to me, because I never pick up my phone unless I recognize the number. No dog here.

It’s called push polling! It’s a thing, for sure (I used to volunteer on political campaigns in HS and college). I hate it, in part because one of my actually-paid college jobs was doing polling for the public policy department at my university, and I think push polls make people less likely to entertain actual polls.

Thank you! I knew it had a name, but I guess I haven't experienced it before.

I think push polls make people less likely to entertain actual polls. It would me! It feels surreptitious and leaves a bad impression of the experience. For people who are irritated with the whole political scene (as I believe many might be right now), it could even lead to their voting for the other candidate just out of spite.

Not exactly the same but three of my area's state legislators send out surveys that only give options that reflect their agendas. Periodically, I would write in other options and return it. The surveys still come with only very conservative choices.
