Update: So DH just got to town over the weekend and I suggested we go visit. We went last night hoping it wouldn't be nutty. It was pretty busy but easy parking and filled up the tank because we could pull right in. Just a few things:
1. There were cars parked at the pumps with no one in them. With empty parking spots visible everywhere. While it didn't seem to be a problem getting a gas pump even with the cars sitting there it was busy enough that it could have backed up in a heartbeat.
2. Because I think we went late (about 6:30pm) they were out of some of their popular stuff that I have seen posted. No biggie to me.
3. Got a few things to eat. Brisket sandwich, banana pudding, Buc-ees chips, pulled pork sandwich. All were good. Nothing I would probably go out of my way for though. I did love the banana pudding. I'm a sucker for that!
4. Got a cute tee-shirt. Not to tacky though (for me).. a dark plain blue, with a white only Buc-ee on the front and says Colorado underneath him. Low key. And I couldn't resist a Buc-ee onsie for my grandson.. it was DARLING.
5. I would go back if in the area, or if friends wanted to go. I wouldn't just go to go though. DH isn't the shopping kind of guy, so he was getting twitchy, so DD and I went kinda fast through the kitchy stuff. We can always get something on the next visit.
6. It was fun and glad we did it.
added 7. VERY IMPRESSED with the parking area.. Large parking spots and easy in/out. I couldn't believe the size of the parking spots.. I drive a huge Ford F-150 (I hate to drive it).. it was so easy to navigate in their parking area. ------------------ So Colorado just opened a new Buc-ees in town. Apparently this is a big deal. There has been lines out onto the highway (mostly on weekends) to get in. I joined the local FB page to kinda see what the hype is all about. People were literally losing their minds. But this is what a lot of the threads were about. 2 different camps.
1. Pull into the gas area to get gas. Leave car parked there and go in and do your shopping. (In this case, if you know this store, it is not a 2 minute in and out thing) This place is like a mall. lol.. Doesn't matter how long you hold up a gas pump.
2. Pull into the gas area to get gas. Move to a parking spot and do your shopping.
These are some of the comments:
"Buc-ees has over 100 gas pumps it doesn't matter if you park there and shop no matter how long it takes." (all the pumps are busy and people are waiting)
"Other side of story, that it is rude to park, get gas and go inside holding up a gas spot."
"That's the way it's done in Texas, you get gas and leave car at the pump."
"There are no parking spots, so this is where I am parking"
"I'll even use the EV spots if there are no parking spots"
I would never hold up a gas spot. I get my gas and move to a parking spot. The only time I don't do that is when there is no one around and I am in/out getting my purchases.. usually a drink.
I can't imagine having a line behind me and I'm just going to go in and shop.
Any Colorado peas been yet? I haven't. I'm waiting for DH to get home and then going to check it out later some evening.. I heard it's pretty calm after 8pm or so. I have never been to one. It's the largest ever built currently although there is one being built in FL I think that will be bigger. It's 74,000 sq. ft.
I'm a Quick Trip gal.. (SO thankful they finally came to Colorado).. nothing will ever top my QT love... haha...

Texan who has been a Buc-ee’s fan forever. It’s rude to leave your car at the pump for a long time. I go in while DH fills up the car. Then he moves the car to a parking space and joins me inside to get whatever he wants.

I have never heard of leaving your car at the gas pump other than when you had to go inside and pay but they were small stores. You could see everything in 5 minutes. I have never been to a Buck-ees, but I have seem them online. That would be like leaving your car at the pump amd going into Walmart to shop. I can’t even imagine doing that. I don’t care how many pumps they have.

We always stop at Buc-ee's in Jackonsville when traveling to FL. Our biggest pet peeve is the people who leave their cars at the pump. The parking lot is like right next to the pump area. Move your damn car. And yes, there are a lot of pumps but it's always busy. Spring break? Thanksgiving - cars were lined up to get gas but several cars were empty because the yahoos were shopping but left their car at the pump. We asked a woman to move her car because we had been waiting a while for gas and when she finished she started to lock her car and leave. Nope. Asked her to move and she looked like we were asking her to give us all her money. She did move it but left a few unkind words behind.

We stoped at one in Fl earlier this year.
We did not get the hype nor did we love the food we bought. Maybe our expectations were too high.
It’s rude to park your car at the pump.
Around me where there are only a few pumps. Grass cutting trucks park there while the whole crew goes in to get food and drinks. The person pumping does not move when they’re done pumping Plus they’re blocking 2 pumps because they usually have a trailer.
I wish they still pumped it for you. I’d pay extra for it. The other day I pulled the nozzle & hose off the pump and it was full of gas from the previous user and spilled down my leg. I had to go home and change.

It is rude to leave your car at the pump and go inside for anything else other than to pay in cash for your gas, which few people do these days. I don't care how many pumps there are or what state you are in. Get your gas, move your car to another space if you want to shop.
We don't have these stores yet and if people are going to be lined up on the highway to get in, I hope we don't get one. Reminds me of people clogging city streets to get into Chick-fil-A. Annoys me no end.

There’s a big difference between leaving your car at the pump to quickly run in to pay a cashier near the door and leaving it to go inside to shop for who knows how long. Soooo inconsiderate, whether at a giant Buckees or a small 3-pump station.
People these days are incredibly entitled, but it sounds like this is an accepted practice at Buccees. Glad they aren’t in my neck of the woods.

We only leave the car at the pump at Buc-cees if we're running in quick to use the restroom. Honestly, I can't remember the last time I shopped at one. We do get food there sometimes. The ones here get busy but they don't get "line down the freeway" busy - they're so common here. There is a particular one on the way to San Antonio that gets nuts on weekends, to the point where the Love's travel stop on the other side has put in much nicer restrooms to attract the overflow traffic. I often stop at the Love's instead because it's just much less hassle.
Cautionary tale because Buccee's is so big and busy - one time I left the pump running while we ran in to use the restroom, knowing that it would shut off automatically when the tank was full. I got back to the car, saw that a full tank's worth of gas had been run, put everything back and drove away. Then I noticed the tank was still empty.
Apparently it's a common issue when they're busy that people will drive up behind someone who walked away, perpendicular to their car, take the pump that's been pre-authorized, use it to fill their car, and drive away. I'm generally pretty savvy about looking out for myself but that had never occurred to me. I gather it's a lot easier to get away with at a big, busy, chaotic place like that. So I bought someone else a tank of gas that day, and then had to swing back around and buy another one for me.
(ETA: I think all new retail/food service construction should be required to put in restroom stalls with floor to ceiling walls and doors like Buc-cees has. The privacy is much better, and there would be much less scare mongering about trans people in the restroom with you. The only thing you do in any possible view of others is wash your hands.)

I'm sure there are people who do leave their cars at the pump but I do not think it is typical!
I have been to Buccees a couple times and have one within 15 miles however I don't get the hype. For a road trip it would probably be a good place to get snacks though!!

If I’m paying for anything other than gas, I move the car. You never know if there’s going to be a lineup at the registers inside, etc. To leave a car parked at the pump while you casually stroll through a store to shop is just plain entitled and rude. I don’t care if there are only a couple pumps or a hundred, it’s still rude especially if there are people waiting.
I almost always get my gas at Costco so leaving the car parked there isn’t an option. One more reason why I love Costco so much. I am kind of partial to the Glazers donuts from Kwik Trip though.
ETA: I would never walk away from a running pump. With my luck, it would be the one time the pump malfunctioned and would pump a hundred bucks worth of gas on the ground. Plus I’m a rule follower and the pump instructions say to not leave it unattended.

I have never, and never will leave my car at a pump to go inside any gas station, including Buccee’s, to shop. It’s rude.

Yeah I agree I never leave my car like I said originally unless like on my way to work in the morning I might get gas and then walk in to get a drink. I’m usually the only person there.
NEVER leave your car unattended when pumping gas. I worked for King Soopers years ago and had to work a little at the gas pumps (I HATED that) but occasionally someone would not be watching and gas is just pouring onto the pavement. The fire department has to be called, all the emergency supplies have to be pulled out and dumped on the area. All the pumps have to be shut off. It’s a mess. It happens more often than you think.

Texan who stops at Buccees on every road trip - it’s beyond rude to park at a gas pump. Pump your gas and *park* in a *parking* spot.
Yes, they have over 100 gas pumps, but I have been there on multiple occasions (summer weekends and spring break) when they are absolutely all full with a line at each one.
You are never, ever supposed to leave the pump while it’s running. That’s irresponsible and asking for trouble. The automatic shut off is so you don’t overfill your tank, not so you can walk away.

No, you should not park at the pump after you are done getting gas. Buccee's is a novelty store amd is fascinating. Some of the prepared food is very good and the bathrooms are immaculate, with real doors on the stalls. Beaver Nuggets are something people rave about and we did not like.

I always pay cash for my gas. I go in and pay, pump the gas, then leave.
It's rude to use the gas pump area as a parking space, while shopping.
I rarely shop at a gas station-convenience store, because the prices are higher.
I would never leave the gas pump unattended, while the gas was pumping.

I have gone into a gas station to get a drink while pumping. I wouldn't ever do that if there was a line or not a lot of pumps empty. I can get back to my vehicle before it stops pumping. I do like things to run smoothly and efficiently, so stopping and creating a line, a backup, or an inconvenience to someone else is not my thing. If I need to use the restroom, I always move my vehicle.
I saw the craziness at the new place. It is a few hours from me, so I haven't been. We've talked about stopping on our way to Yellowstone next month. I don't love stores in general, so I am pretty sure this won't be my thing. If we get gas there, the vehicle will be moved to a parking spot.

I've never been to a Buc-ee's, but I wouldn't do that if I visited one. I get gas at Costco so there's no store to go into (our gas station is across the street from the actual Costco store.) Usually the only time I stop at a gas station is when we're traveling. Normally I leave the car at the pump to run in for drinks and use the restroom, but if I notice they're busy or someone is waiting, I move to a parking space. I can't imagine being so rude to make people wait on me.

We don't have Buc-ees up here--is 100 gas pumps hyperbole or real? I can't even imagine.
I had an incident a few months ago where I had pulled up to the pump behind an SUV from Florida. There was nobody pumping gas--just two men sitting in the car. I didn't want to be pushy, but they sat there a LONG time doing nothing. In the meantime, cars pulled in behind me, so I went up to the car and asked the driver how long he was going to be because there was a line of cars behind me waiting. He said his wife was inside. I asked him to move his car to a parking space near the store. He said, "Where?" and I indicated a parking space near the door. He said, "She won't be able to find me if I move the car." I'm sure my eyes bugged out of my head. I said, "But she's an adult." He finally moved the car.

I've only been to Buc-ees once, while driving to Florida. I wouldn't go out of my way to go again but it was fine to break up the trip.
We moved to a parking space after getting gas, because we were going to go look around.
But I don't usually do that at QT or Race Trac, because I generally set the pump, go in and get my snack or drink, and come back out and leave. I'm definitely THAT person who starts the pump and walks away, though only at my usual Race Trac at 6AM when I know I'll be in and out. The parking there is pretty limited, unlike many others. It's me and a bunch of work crews that early in the morning.
If it ever comes back to bite me in the ass I'll be sure to come here and let you all know immediately. And I'll take my "I told you sos" gracefully 😊

I love QT too. It is the closest gas station to my house and that works for me. I never get gas anywhere else. I do love to stop at a Buc-ees, but there aren’t any near me. ( I wouldn’t get gas there though, I’m sticking to my QT gas. )

The one in Sevierville, TN that opened last year has 120 pumps. Most of the ones I've been to are large, but not that large. If you are in some of the small Texas towns, you will find Buc-ee's that are about the size of a regular convenience store/gas station.

I live in proximity to at least 4 Buc-ee's and we NEVER park at the pump and then go shopping. We have quickly used the bathroom and come back but if we are buying something inside, we park in the parking lot. The Parking lots are big enough that I have never seen them completely full.
My parents live about 15 minutes away from the new CO one and they went at 6am last week to see it. They love a good breakfast taco and Buc-ee's has plenty!

There are two places we will go inside while our car is parked at the pump, but not while the gas is pumping. One is the gas station in front of our neighborhood, and only when it’s dead. The other is a gas station we always stop at in Hico, Tx. I think it’s a kind of gathering place and parking spots are typically harder to come by than gas pumps. But we’d never do that if there was a chance anyone else would have to wait. Apparently we are getting one, I’m not sure how many pumps but only around 58,000 sq ft. Has been delayed because of construction on 10.

It’s a good place to stop when you really want to stretch your legs and be out of the car for a while. But having been there before I wouldn’t wait in a line to get gas there or go in.

I am usually not surprised by the selfish things we humans can do, especially since the start of social media and this compulsion many people have to document the majority of their lives for the entertainment of strangers. Upload every burp, grin, and giggle of your new baby for family members? I totally get that. And for family members that live states apart, it is even more awesome.
But some people have begun to think of themselves as stars and that their wants and needs are much more important than anyone else’s. That is what I picture as the type of person that thinks it is perfectly fine to park their car in what is supposed to be an active functioning gas line. I just can’t imagine doing such a thing. And I hope the store has a long list of police officers to write tickets and tow truck drivers to tow these cars off so that normal gas operations can continue. The greed is disgusting.
