I have dresses/skirts…. I don’t wear shorts. So I guess I’m looking for some lightweight pants/crops to take. What are some brands that you like? More info - I’m 62, 5’9”, average weight and “leggy”, if that helps.

I wear capris all the time. Who says they're out of style? Lightweight capris are perfect for Hawaii. I like Style and Co. from Macys. Bear in mind, that I'm short.

Wear what you like. Why do women allow themselves to be dictated by trends?

Capris are still available but they call them crops now. They are a tad longer than some of the capris in the past although you are above average height so they may run a bit shorter on you. I shop mostly at Talbots and Lands End.

I saw a video last night that capris are starting to trend again.

Capris that hit below the knee are out of style. They are unflattering because they shorten the line of your leg. Crops are closer to the ankle so they create a longer line and better proportions.
I have some loose, flowy gauze pants that look good with colorful tops.

What's the difference between crops and capris? I just measured two pairs of my jean capris against my fav jean crops - the crops are 6” longer than the capris.

For crop/capri type pants, I tend to wear more active styles, so I buy hiking or travel pants that can roll up to my desired length. Usually at REI, Eddie Bauer, etc. A big plus for me is if they have...cargo pockets. haha. Seriously, I love being hands free when traveling and a cargo pocket with a button or snap closure is perfect for quick access to my phone/camera.
After a google search LOTS of stores pop up - Macy's Nordstrom, Amazon, JCP. It all depends on your style and fit (and of course how much you want to spend)

I was at Macys yesterday and they have lots of capris. I was actually thinking of buying a pair of Levi capris because it fit me like a crop. 😁

I just cut off some of the length on some old lightweight pants, then roll to desired “crops” (not capris). Perfect for Hawaii and don’t have to spend a lot or add to my (hefty) wardrobe 😜

Where what you like. I dont wear shorts, so I live in Capris. "Crops" arent as short as capris, and therefore not as cool in summer. When I vacation soneplace warm, I do casual dresses- my swim coverups from Lands End can also be worn as dresses. (Body Glide prevents chafing).

Wear what you like. Why do women allow themselves to be dictated by trends? The whole world is full of women who don't follow trends and only wear what's comfortable and what they like. Ever been to Walmart? Maybe she just wants to look a bit more pulled-together while she's on vacation and wants ideas from contemporaries, just a guess. I'm tired of the reverse judgement going on all the time.

What's the difference between crops and capris? Crops are essentially ankle length or just above the ankle, so pretty useless for hot weather. Capris are just below the knee.

I wouldn’t wear pants in hawaiii - if I did, they’d be linen and loose. I also like the gauzy cotton that is in right now.
For brands, I like Michael Stars and Velvet by Graham and Spencer. They have really nice fabrics, including linen.

Wear what you like. Why do women allow themselves to be dictated by trends? This, exactly! I used to watch the trends and while I bought more expensive staple pieces for work, I also bought a couple of cheaper trendy pieces to wear after work or on weekends. Then, when cropped pants came into fashion, I learned how comfortable and versatile they could be. I couldn’t wear them in the office, or maybe I could have, I just never did, but living in Southern California, I wore them all year long. I also had a couple of toe rings and an anklet that I wore continually and they could be seen with cropped pants and sandals. By the time I learned that cropped pants were no longer in style, I was at an age where I just didn’t care about current fashion any longer. I had stopped working years before I had planned to after being injured, so I slowly got rid of the majority of my better clothing items. But since I was now home every day, I lived in my capri pants because they were comfortable and I liked them. I wasn’t about to stop just because they were no longer the “in” thing to wear. I will undoubtedly wear them for the rest of my life, unless they become threadbare.

Wear what you like. Why do women allow themselves to be dictated by trends? 100% this. Wear what makes you feel good about yourself, regardless of whether it is on trend or not. I'm short and I know some things look better on me than others. If I follow a trend and don't feel comfortable in those clothes, it will show all over my face. I buy what I like and what I know I can wear with confidence. I'm wearing capris right now. I don't care if influencers have deemed them out of style. I like them. I feel better wearing them than I would in short shorts.

I’m confused - when did the OP say anything about only buying the latest trends or even caring about what is “in”?

All of my capris are denim and I could use something lighter weight. I'm not a fancy dresser (I usually wear denim) so don't laugh. Costco sells Eddie Bauer now so if you have a membership, check out the clothes section. These are a good travel pant. A Twill-ish material so changing out the shoes you can go from outdoors to a casual restaurant. Kuhl brand from REI link On clearance now so only one size/color for sale. Sorry! These are really comfy for hiking and camping, or . Eddie Bauer link I think these are cute and have them in my cart. Lee Brand from Amazon I have a couple pairs of REI store brand hiking pants that roll up, but couldn't find them on the website to link. My favorite travel pant is more than ten years old from Lucy (no longer around, purchased by The North Face, I think). They're perfect for flying and/or touring museums or walking around and such. Change to a pair of black flats and a sweater/jacket and I can go to a nicer restaurant. Wrinkle free, but sadly no pockets. Try searching for travel pant or hiking pant, add or don't add crop, capri, cargo pocket.

In her original post she mentioned that she doesn't see capris in her stores so they must be out of style, so she is looking for something else to wear. Thank you! I was so confused when I read miascraps' post, thinking that the OP didn't even say anything about trends in her post. But honestly, even if you don't want to follow trends, you really kinda have to..... if the market says that capris are not trendy and no longer in fashion, then shops won't stock them and you won't be able to buy them. Hence a post about what kind of lightweight pants/crops to buy.....
