Path of totality and beautiful viewing weather. Went to my parents' farm and it was a lovely day. Now the traffic after...yuck. LOL

Happy to see many of you had clear skies. Very cool! We were only 23%, so nothing to see. But in 20 years we'll be in the path for totality.

Well that was a total nothingburger here. The clouds were thick all day. It didn’t even get dark. 😩 Now the trick will be to put my eclipse glasses somewhere I’ll remember to look for them 20 years from now when the next one happens, LOL.

My two sons ad I plus the dog hopped into the truck to day and headed to northeast Texas to do a bit of eclipse chasing. We do this every time when one will be occurring and is close enough to reach within a days drive even if we spend the night in a hotel for the return trip. Our destination was Paris, Tx and we made decent time, stopping at 4 Buccees and grabbing a snack, bathroom break and potty time for the dog.We decided to stop in the city park in Cooper, Tx as it was gorgeous weather, only one other family was there, Charlie the dog was happing to be out of the truck and it gave up plenty of time to set up the telescope, cameras, and just hang around for about 30 minutes. So we made holes in a couple of business card and tried pin hole viewing of the eclipse and I was blast back childhood! Charlie celebrated extra by rolling around in the grass, the eclipse was total and completely amazing! And it got very very dark! And the temps dropped also , once totalized was reduced to complete and the sun began to peak out , we got the amazing view oh the”diamond engagement ring”!
I hope I never lose my wonderment over what nature and the solar system provides us!

Glad everyone had a great day of viewing. It was exceptional and amazing.
Just an FYi in case some haven’t heard about this, many areas are collecting solar eclipse glasses as there is an organization that takes them and then recycles them to other places in an eclipse path so that everyone can have the opportunity to see one if they can.

lilacgal I’ve been thinking about your trip here and hoping you’re able to go where the viewing is best! It was bittersweet. The clouds cleared up enough at the beginning but the sky became mostly overcast by the time totality hit. I did get a literal few seconds where the clouds cleared enough we could see totality without our glasses. It was a breathtaking few seconds! It just makes me want to see the next one even more. Only need to wait until August 12, 2045! I told husband we should plan a Disney trip that week…I’ll be retired by then. Sweet man added it to our calendar already!

Yesterday was great despite the weather. It started out great sunny, a few spotty clouds We did get more cloud cover. We did get to see the beginning of the eclipse, however by the point of totality it was fully clots covered. HOWEVER, despite the clouds, at totality you still get the several minutes of darkness and it was awesome. The place we were at had short fireworks, only time I’ve ever seen fireworks in the afternoon . I was amazed at how dark it did get and the unusual “dome” ( for lack of a better word ) of darkness with the light at all horizons 360 degrees was great to see.
Sure I’m slightly jealous of those who got the full experience of totality but it was awesome nonetheless and the place we were at was spectacular

My DD’s school is collecting them and sending them to somewhere in South America for their eclipse. Maybe Chile? 🤷♀️

I viewed totality for a minute and 30 seconds from my backyard at the lake and it was amazing! The day started off cloudy in the Dallas/Fort Worth area but about 2 hours before totality it became party cloudy so I was able to view the whole thing. When totality hit I couldn't help but gasp it was just extraordinary! I could hear people cheering throughout the neighborhood. Really cool event to get to experience. I wish now I had gone into work (I work from home on Mondays) because they got almost 3 minutes of totality, but I was afraid of traffic jams in DFW.

My BFF was at a spot not too terribly far away between here and Austin that had awesome views and I was hoping for you that you had happened across one of those. But I’m glad you did get to experience some of it! And same, I want to be there for the next one. I didn’t realize we knew the path for the next one already, will have to look into it! What a sweetheart 🥰🥰🥰

So glad to see this! I bought a decent size pack and my mom did as well and gave me hers so I think we have 20 or so extras and I literally just tossed them in the trash 15 minutes ago when I replaced the bag. I’ll go grab them and see if I can find some place local that is doing the same. eta: If you’re having a hard time locating a place to donate, here is an organization that is collecting them. They said they’re adding locations as there aren’t tons listed. Warby Parker is at 240 retail stores, we can drop them off the next time we drive into San Antonio if I can’t find one locally. astronomerswithoutborders.org/programs/solar-glasses-distribution

After all of the reporting about the experience of a total eclipse, I was convinced that I need to experience it. And I just realized that our family vacation home is right on the edge of the path of totality for the 2045 eclipse. I told my husband and my sister-in-law to add it to their calendars! 😜 Here's info on that eclipse www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/map/2045-august-12

The friend I have that rented a house on Lake Erie in the path of totality did something wrong with her dslr camera and all her pictures are blurry. Her other friends’ have good pictures though.

My sister's home was in the path of totality so we walked to the river area and watched it there. It was spectacular! Cloudy until just a few minutes before then we saw the whole eclipse and were in awe.
My BFF and I already have a date set for the one in 20 years. Her home is in the path of totality. Praying we get to keep that date!
