Update later the same day:
I was at Best Buy and have an appointment for Wed morning which I don't have time for and will prob. cancel.
I spent a long time speaking with 2 very kind AppleCare folks who tried to help me. Thanks for the suggestion ntsf. And you're exactly right, monklady123, I didn't need a plan in order to call the number and connect with people who tried, unsuccessfully, to help me. I now have a case number, I think it is, and may hear from someone else from Apple in a day or two. After they had me empty my cache and do a few other things, SOME of my calendar content for April was restored, much was still missing. Oddly, the calendar that pulled up in iCloud was more complete/different from the one I pull up by clicking on the Calendar icon on my Mac toolbar.
I have a neighbor who is coming over after she puts her kids to bed tonight to try to help me. She works with software and uses Macs. Fingers crossed.

I went to bed last night having found simple instructions on line to restore missing data via iCloud.
Just did it and though I got a message saying my calendar had been restored to the version from April 5 (last time it updated daily, for some reason that may be part of this). Nothing had changed. So I tried restoring to the March 23 version, oldest one available to me, and that didn't work either.
The first half of this year I have the fullest calendar I have ever had with tons of travel, performances, appointments, etc. I'm trying not to freak out. I know I can look up the performance dates and times and call the offices of my dentist, hairstylist etc. to find out when my appointments are, but I don't know if I will remember what all of them are.
First world problem, I know, but this is a very uncomfortable feeling. I am def going back to a paper daily planner, ordered one last night.
I resisted digital calendar for YEARS after almost everyone I knew began to rely on them exclusively. I gave in about 2 years ago and have really enjoyed it. Now... not so much.
Any ideas for other things I can try without going to the Apple Genius Bar? I really don't have time to do that this week.
Entertaining close friends tomorrow, and between Friday 11 a.m. and 11 pm Saturday we will have entertained, separately, a young family from CONN, dear friends from Baltimore who we haven't seen in 25 years, I will help a friend hang 12 quilts at a mutual friends memorial service, attend the service and then take a couple from LA out to dinner, friends who are coming up for the memorial. The next morning we are joining family in Palm Desert, one day late due to the memorial, so I have to have all of my packing other than perishables done before I go to bed on Thursday. I have a hair appointment to fit in there as well and tons of shopping to do today at 3 different stores, for the PD trip and for tomorrow's dinner.
HELP!!!
I'll be back after my shopping.
TIA for any tips you have for me.
If you're hoping to view the eclipse, I hope weather cooperates for you and that it's a great experience!
