I’m trying to move from my pc to my apple laptop and ipad. I have some invoices for a small business on word. Few internet forma that I use excel for.
I’ve been looking at pages, but am not sure if I can move the word documents to pages? I’d love not to have to pay for office every year but not sure if pages will work. Especially for the excel stuff. Watched a couple basic videos but figured i’d ask here before continuing to dig for information

I just opened a Word document from work on my Ipad in pages, it has charts, pictures, etc and even the editing comments are all still there.
For excel sheets, you want to use Numbers.
You may want to ry Pages and numbers to see if it will work for you.

You should be able to import those documents into Pages or Numbers. I’ve used both and Pages/Numbers do have some quirks that aren’t very intuitive, especially if you’re used to using Word and Excel. I struggle through it though. I really like being able to do things on my iPad because it’s always with me and more portable. I also like that it’s easier to move documents between my MacBook and my iPad and vice versa.

I open Word and Excel documents with Pages and Numbers all the time. No problems. I even do the reverse. But as other have said I do prefer Excel and Word. I use Excel so much for work that I find Numbers a bit annoying because it doesn’t work the same way. I don’t use Pages/Numbers enough on my Mac to make it worthwhile for me to buy Word/Excel, but if you are a heavy user, I would consider paying for Word/Excel.

oh my God thank you. I just bought a new Mac laptop and I really didn’t want to have to pay per year.

I don't like the new changes on pages. it is harder to send as attachment out of it.

oh my God thank you. I just bought a new Mac laptop and I really didn’t want to have to pay per year. Full disclosure. Yes my Word, Excel and Powerpoint work perfectly but when I use it I do get a banner message that says something to the effect of this version is no longer supported. If that bothered me, I'd have to buy to the "new" version which appears to be 3 years old already and pay the $149. It does not bother me that it's outdated but I wanted to make sure you know that before you buy it. At some point you will get the same message.

Not sure if this will work for you but I just use google sheets and google docs instead of word and excel on my MacBook. It's very basic but free.

pinklady that's what I use on my MacBook. My husband got it thru work for free about 10 or so years ago. Still going strong on my Mac.

You can also open office files with Google's suite (Doc, Sheets, Slides, etc).
