I just went to take advantage of the paper sale and found more than one pattern of the papers (designer)in a thinner sheet. At first I thought it was from the one sided thinner papers Joann’s also sells but no these were thin and double sided and in the designer section. If this is the way the next collections at Joann’s will be, I will not be getting any.

It's sad when companies choose to enshittify their products instead of simply raising the price. Sure, you might get sales for a little bit until folks cotton on, but in the end it just ruins a product and consumers go looking for better stuff elsewhere.

Hmmm... that sucks As far as I know Joann doesn't get special papers in their Designer Destinations area - it's just the same papers that are sold to all the retailers by AC, so does that mean they're shrinkflating all their patterned paper? What collection and designer was it? I'd love to hear if anyone has bought the same paper from scrapbook dot com or elsewhere - curious if AC have produced special crappo papers for big box retail or if this is a widespread change...

Have they switched out the designer section from the last collections from last year?

I wanted to add that I believe this was not the case for these papers before recently. I have bought from this set of collections many times since Joann’s got them. I wish I remembered which papers so I can check if I have them in a regular weight already.

I bought that collection from there when it first came out at J’s and my papers were all LSS quality weight. I wonder if the preprint restock is cheaper weight.

Michaels used to do this back when they sold scrapbook stuff. I remember buying a paper pad of a Heidi Swapp line. I’d bought a couple sheets online and wanted the collection. I was surprised not only was the pad paper thinner but the colors were less vibrant.
AC also used to release designer papers but without their name to Michaels. I remember buying a pad with some name for the collection but it was obviously one of Amy Tangerine’s lines from an AC.

I bought some of the papers from that line last year when it came out as well as the 6x8 paper pad. I did not notice it being thinner than other AC lines I bought at that time straight from ACOT. I also bought a MH 6x8 paper pad from JoAnn's at the same time and again no difference. Curious how the next lines that come out will be like.

I haven't shopped Michaels for paper in ages but Joann definitely has tons of AC papers on their open stock shelves that are single sided and thin. Certain popular papers from various designer collections. But the Joann Designer Destinations papers have always been normal quality, proper double sided paper, the same as you'd get from any other scrapbook store. I'm very invested in this mystery even though I rarely shop for paper at J's. I really hope AC isn't enshittifying all their paper.

The Michaels thin papers goes back years. Sine I never go there any more I don’t know if it’s still a thing. Like joblackford said the destinations papers are nice. I bought some in a Shimelle line a few years ago. At this point it wouldn’t surprise me that AC would sell enshittified papers and stickers through Joann. Joann is probably desperate and AC sells well. The enshittified stuff costs less to make so AC makes more money in the long run.just speculating.

JoAnns has the worst paper sometimes. So thin. I won't buy the designer stuff if it is that way. Tuesday Morning used to get paper packs that were a good brand, but "packaged" for Tuesday Morning and they were a cheaper quality.

100% not surprised. It's the exact same thing with "Black Friday" items, especially electronics. They're produced with that market in mind, from cheaper components or with less features. Not much you can pare away on paperstock other than the print quality or the paper itself.

Ok ladies, I had to go back to Joann’s for something. I took a look at the papers again that were thinner. I found three. Paper 24 from Blooming Wild, the butterfly paper/blue dots paper from Vicki Boutin, and a green plaid/darker green leaf paper from crate Paper Gingham Garden.

This is totally just a guess but maybe those are the papers from their respective collections that sold well, sold out of the regular weight, and are going to be permanently carried as thin open stock papers in the future. I wonder if anyone has those same papers bought from a Designer Destinations earlier or in a different region that are still the thicker paper. I’m way too invested in this mystery, lol.

I bought the 6x8 and individual papers from Crate Paper at JoAnns when it came out. I am southern Ca and all the paper, individual and paper pad, is regular CP thickness. I just have the 6x8 pad left and it is the same as another CP pad I have. I wonder if this is like what businesses get who sell the paper after it's not longer being made. It's thinner for sure. And reprints.

I am bumping this because I received some of the Jenn H Groovy Baby paper from ACOT and it is THIN. It is the thinnest paper I have every received. I am going to try and weight it on my kitchen scale.

I weighted 3 papers.
Doodlebug came in at 17 grams.
Simple Stories came in at 17 grams.
Jenn H came in at 15 grams.
I know this thread discussed another AC brand (Vicki B) but I bought Jenn H paper at JoAnn's last year (the other retro line) as well as through ACOT and the papers were thicker.
Is this going to be an overall AC paper line thing? Lighter weight paper that is thin??
I hope not.

Maybe I will stop by JoAnns tomorrow and see what is out and buy a sheet to test.
I bought some of the Vicki B newest line and when that finally comes in I will weight it as well since it is under AC.
