I found this interesting series on cleaning up a pretty trashed scraproom. It made me put my own mess in perspective--while it really was, and still is, kind of a disaster, a lot of it is basically "deferred decisions," nothing to do with my papercrafting hobbies, that got shoved up there. I also realized that as overwhelmed and as much stuff as I have--others are dealing with stuff, too, and some quite a bit more extensive. This lady, Mira, is awesome and brave for being so vulnerable to allow insight into her situation. What's extra interesting is that it's filmed from two perspectives: The professional organizer, Bonnie, and Mira herself. There are two parts to each series, I believe. I'm posting the second part of each. Also: FELICITY JANE everywhere! Mira's videoBonnie the organizer's video

I love a good scrap room clean-up video, thanks for sharing. Scrapbooking is one of those hobbies that it’s really easy to get out of control with supplies. There are so many different supplies that need to be organized and it’s so easy to out shop your ability to create. Even when you are creating you have to deal with the scraps.

The organizer's video popped up in my YT yesterday. It is pretty intense.

I feel for her. There is so much in that room I could see it being overwhelming. I know they said she had several issues but the room was so crowded I don’t know how you could find joy in scrapbooking. I hope she can sell some of it and clean it up enough to be usable.

We talked about it a little in the crafty organizing thread too. Mira has been in a decluttering journey for several months, working through some hoarding issues stemming from major depression, grief, and other health issues. Bonnie, who is actually just a YTer who loves cleaning and helps people for free, worked with Mira in her kitchen last year. I haven’t watched the newest videos yet but was very happy to see that Mira was working on getting back to having a crafty space she could enjoy. Organizing a scrap room is HARD, even without having other issues.
I also thought people here would be goggle eyed at all the FJ boxes.

I do enjoy a good clean up. I am naturally an organizer and a declutterer, so seeing people get this far away from where they'd like to be is always eye opening for me. I know that circumstances, mental health, and some other variables can play a big part in things like this happening.
I have more paper than anyone should ever need for 10 lifetimes. I feel like if I keep it organized, it doesn't make me feel so bad, but much of it does need to go. I was working with a friend on selling kits and my friend ran into some mental health issues and I didn't want to do it alone. I need to find a happy home for it.

Oh bless Bonnie for helping! I love a good clean with me video (scrapbook room, fridge, kitchen) but that was way too much for me to handle. I have never been able to enjoy watching horder shows. They trigger my OCD and anxiety and I can't relax.
Was Mira able to pair things down to a manageable amount that made her feel good?

In the last video Mira stated that she’s planning on having a craft sale as a lot of people in her area craft. Now that items are in smaller containers etc she is able to do more detailed organising and had 11 full boxes of items to sell at the end of the last video. 😁 I don’t have Netflix and love shows like hoarders and would be at Mira’s house to help her out in a flash if I lived in the same hemisphere 😂

Lol - watching one of the videos as we speak Saw the first one last night - couldn’t believe the FJ boxes. I have never subscribed to a monthly kit, but I can imagine they would come more than I can/could scrap, which would explain some of the surplus of items
But good on her for getting it sorted with outside help

I watched one of the scrap room owners videos. She was making great progress cleaning up her desk and organizing stuff. She said she subscribed to Felicity Jane from 2015/16? And then also club scrap and one other kit club. It really made me think of when I subscribed to Felicity Jane. I think I did 2 years and it kept coming and I couldn’t use it quick enough. I cancelled years ago and still have so much stuff to use. And it’s starting to become the items I don’t go to as often. I should try to make an effort to use it up. I am a minimalist (not in scrapbooking but I try) and I can still see how in my case it became overwhelming to get a kit each month.

I did a year of Club Scrap in 2001ish and still have some papers and alpha stickers in my stash I did 4 Echo Park kits when they first started (2019ish) and I'm still working on two of them (a spring and a summer) - I did finally finish up the fall and Christmas ones. Kits aren't for me - too much stuff and I don't tend to scrap multiple layouts in a row with one (except Christmas) kit or collection so...they take for ever to use.

I’ve watched Mira’s videos and think she is so brave to share this! I love her laugh, too - she seems like a joyful person. I’m planning to watch the organizer videos tomorrow as I tackle my own stash.

I’ve been watching Mira since she started. Definitely very brave! I need to watch Bonnie’s videos.

I was able to watch Bonnie’s videos a bit easier. I really admire Mira for taking these steps, getting outside help, and sharing her journey knowing how cruel the internet can be. But visual clutter gives me anxiety and her way of going through things is a bit haphazard. Not a thing wrong with that, but with my issues it ramps up my anxiety. Bonnie’s method seemed to be much more in line with mine so I was glad to see it. I have more hope for Mira now!

Thanks for sharing this! I enjoyed watching... I love the show hoarders. My dream job would probably be professional organizer, I just love seeing it all come together. My craft room is a little messy and needs a reorganization, but nothing like that... still this is motivating. I've been thinking of filming my process this time as I clean and organize my craft space (I also need to redecorate it so I have to paint the walls, and move stuff around so I can get to the walls) and filming it might be motivating to get it done. That probably won't happen until fall though, because I have a lot planned between now and the end of August between work/travel/other events.

I have seen a couple of crafters who used them because they didn't have much access to scrappy stuff in their countries and who crafted pretty intensively. But if the kit doesn't perfectly suit your style or you don't enjoy using it as your main stash for the month it seems really easy for it to just pile up in a corner. And it seems like you need a really good process for leftovers, and a certain immunity to FOMO so you can quit when you realize it's too much.

Oh, you should ABSOLUTELY film your process if you are open to that. Your style and methods are quite appealing to watch. My own reorg turned into a much bigger project than I had originally planned, which I should have anticipated. This series of videos came along at a good time and made me realize I'm catastrophizing my situation a little, though it honestly was horrifying when I started last month. I am down to a bunch of sorting now, and some clearing out of things that got shoved up here. I've taken photos here and there along the way but I'll wait until it's mostly done before I share any of that. I think I might be 4-5 hours away from having things in "good enough" shape.

RE: All the FJ boxes. I used to save mine also but I never subscribed. It was always too rich for my blood relative to what was included, I think. But I absolutely did take advantage of both sales and then also the extravaganza of deals at the end of Felicity Jane's run before they shut down to focus on digital products only. I bought SO MUCH STUFF and went back several times. At first I didn't put together that Mira must have been a subscriber at one point. I was viewing through my own frame of "Wow, she must have gone nuts at the going out of business FJ sale!"
The video posted last night showed an amazing amount of progress--it's largely under control now. I'm so pleased for her. And I'm quite appreciative that the videos were posted, and came along when they did. I found them so helpful.

Bonnie posted the last video yesterday, they made so much progress! It seems like all of the trash and excess boxes are gone, and the supplies are separated into macro categories, much of it loaded back on to her shelves. Her work surface is so much improved, I really hope this helps her enjoy crafting more and that her dogs are happy to come keep her company. They’re so cute! There are still a lot of boxes of items for her to go through in that back corner where the clothing rod is, but they look like they are also sorted into macro categories. I really hope someone is able to come help her organize her supplies, because otherwise she has so much she’ll have a very difficult time finding what she wants. If I lived anywhere close I’d love to help her.
