I have a friend who is deeply religious. She has told me that she does not tip anyone more than 10% because that is what she gives to God, and no one should get more than that. Is this a common belief? Have you heard of this before?

Wow, I've never heard that excuse for leaving a bad tip. Sounds like she's trying to justify her cheapness.

Maybe she should tithe 20% to God from now on. (Really the church, not God.)
And she is cheap. Bet wait staff dread seeing her sit in their section.

Lol. I've never heard of that. But seems to me that she should just "tip" God more so she could also tip the waiters more. But she probably wouldn't go for that. ugh And she'll justify it by saying we're supposed to "tithe" which means one tenth. Does she really give one tenth of her income to her church?

As a tithing Christian since I was 16, I've never heard of that tipping idea or know anyone that follows that idea, nor have I ever heard it preached/taught in church. Tithing and tipping are two different concepts.

I’ve never heard of this. Tithe means tenth, but isn’t the idea that it’s at least a tenth? So she could freely give more to all.

Comparing the two is horribly disrespectful to the concept of tithing. It's not a tip to God for His good service.

Then she should tip 10% of her income, not 10% of the bill.

That is cheap and ridiculous. Never heard of using your religion not to tip more than 10%. It's common to tithe 10% at church. It's people like that give Christians a bad name.

Yes.
I have often heard that religious people are the worst tippers.
Have you seen the religious tip tracts? They leave them instead of a tip.
Sunday after church is considered the worst restaurant shift (rude guests, bad tips).

Does she really give one tenth of her income to her church? I think she actually does. Now, I don't know if it is on gross or net however. Sunday after church is considered the worst restaurant shift (rude guests, bad tips). I've heard that too.

If she is eating out in excess of 10% of her income, there is a different issue.

Sunday after church is considered the worst restaurant shift (rude guests, bad tips). I've heard that too. It’s a horrible shift for retail too. Back when I owned a small retail store I decided to just be closed on Sundays because the people coming in after church were so entitled and rude.

Yeah, that's a crap excuse for being a lousy tipper. She says that to give herself moral high ground.

Um no! That is just her. She seriously has poor critical thinking skills with that faulty logic.
We are more generous tippers.

Yes, I have heard that.
I’ve also received “tips” that look like money at first glance but are, in fact, a printout inviting me to find Jesus or attend their church.

Tithing is 10% of your income or whatever per month/year, tipping is 20% of your purchase price at one location/meal/item/purchase. Maybe someone needs to give this person a math lesson...

I have never heard of tithing being equated to tipping. I kind of think this is just her thing.

These are not equal, nor is it addressed any where in the Bible.
In my world as a believer and follower of Christ I treat those who server me appropriate to the service they provide. Often 15-20% of the bill, not just at restaurants but other services as well.

I’d counter with a tenth of your income is a far cry from 20% of a restaurant check. Stop being cheap or eat at home.

Stiffing a server in the name of Jesus is a new one. She seriously has poor critical thinking skills with that faulty logic. If this is a Christian thing, it explains a lot in this election cycle. I’ve also received “tips” that look like money at first glance but are, in fact, a printout inviting me to find Jesus or attend their church. I got one saying the Pope is the Anti-Christ. My other personal favorites are, "Why is Mary Crying?" (because she's going to burn in hell) and "The Death Cookie" aka the communion host). When I lived in the Bible Belt I learned that the ones who bang their bibles the loudest are the ones you've got to watch. Show me, don't tell me what a good Christian you are.
