The movers pack us on July 16th and won't arrive at the new house until 4 or 5 days later. I am trying to think of everything we will need for those days. I have the obvious stuff on my list but what am I likely to forget?

If your going to cook don't forget the pots and pans. I moved the day after the movers took everything I thought I had everything thaty was left and forgot my pots and pans. My daughter lives up the street from the house and asked the new owners if she could plaese have them. They said gave her 2 pots and kept the rest. lesson learned.

Wish I could help ... I've been in the process of moving over the last two months. Furniture and boxes have been trickling from one city to another 30 miles apart. I feel like I've been living a double life lol. I've been reduced to wondering which house my clean underwear are at!
What about coffee pot, filters, mugs etc.? If you've got kids do they have something to entertain themselves for those few days? Pets? Everything for them? Notepad and paper? Flashlight? Ziplock bags?

Bedding for everyone (whatever will be okay for everyone, whether blankets/pillows, sleeping bags, etc)
bath/hand towels with toiletries
coffee/tea pot and supplies if that's something you use daily
all pet items (if applicable)
bring/buy some basic cleaning supplies
enough kitchen stuff to get you started... even if you're using paper plates, you'll want a "real" knife to go with the pots/pans cahwoo just mentioned

Chargers to all electronic devices. I moved last year and my daughter packed up the chargers in the wrong box and then couldn't remember where she put them and it took us days to find them. Thank god we had one we had brought to the new house the first day. we all had to share it to charge our phones.
Favorite travel mug or water bottle.
When ever I move The last thing I do is cook. I usually have a fridge full of sandwich makings and fruit and salad makings. and I usually use paper plates, bowls and silverware. I also make the family eat cold cereal.... I now I am a mean mover. but the last thing I want to do when moving is clean the dishes.
We are hoping last year is the last time we had to move. We want to stay here in this house forever.
Good luck with the move to everybody that is moving.

Medicine. Probably obvious, but I always have a medicine cabinet packed for every plague I can imagine every time I travel/move. Especially congestion/cough, headache and "Montezuma's revenge'...

I've not moved since 2001 so I'm no help but I have seen moving tips on Pinterest. You might check those out to see if there's some not mentioned here.

Any house plants, chemicals, flammable items, candles, etc. The movers won't take those.

Think about your daily routine - what things would you really need if you didn't have them for a few days, along with anything you might need for an emergency
