We're supposed to spend an afternoon there while on our trip next month. It has great reviews but we are an older tour group (50's -later 70's) and some of the ladies aren't too sure about it.
What was your experience like?

I have been there. It was nice. Try not to get your hair in the water it’s figficult to get the minerals out. We had massages inside the lagoon which was fun. The food there was crazy expensive as is all food in Iceland. It was a fun experience.

I haven't been there, but my niece went there to a wedding. I was interested in where she was going to a wedding in such a fridgid area so I googled the area and read about it and other places in Iceland that she was going to be going to as well.
They have accomodations for those that need assistance. They even have wheelchairs that go into the water.
I think you all will be okay. Niece enjoyed it there and said she would go back.

I’ve been there. I don’t think anyone would have an issue. My mom was over 70 , limited mobility when we went —and doesn’t swim— and she had a great time. My dad did not do it as he was on oxygen.
It’s a neat experience. If you are not going to any other hot pools like the Secret Lagoon, it’s a 100% must. If you are going to other pools, it’s not “authentic” but it is still a cool once in a lifetime experience.

I went and loved it. We splurged for in-water massages and it was amazing! You'll definitely feel ready to fall into bed afterward.

Haha, I guess I wasn't clear enough. Everyone is very active and able, it's wearing a bathing suit that some of them are struggling with.

I think if they are a bit shy about wearing a suit, that they could wear a robe until they got down to the water. I'm sure there are those that judge, but I don't think most really care what you look like in a bathing suit. If they do, that's their issue. Go enjoy it. Springs are wonderful.

I was there three years ago. I went to Iceland for the nature and although Blue Lagoon is man-made, I loved it and I want to go back again. But the volcano keeps it opening and closing recently. Don't worry about what people think in swimsuits. People have creams on their faces and a drink in their hand while they are in there so no one cares. We didn't spend enough time there because we had to drive to our hotel, Hilton Reykjavik instead of staying closer to the Blue Lagoon and the airport. We went there the day before we flew home. It's good to go there at the beginning or at the end of your vacation there.

I've been and really enjoyed my time. At the time I was in my early 60s and 55 lbs heavier. Just wore my regular one piece and had a great time. There are many European tourists there and I've found over the years that they don't seem to have the issues with wearing swim suits in public like many Americans do. They think nothing of wearing tiny bikinis, no matter how old or overweight they are. They need to loosen up a bit and realize that no one is paying them any attention!
Hopefully the volcano will behave itself while you are there as the Blue Lagoon has been dealing with some closures recently when there is an eruption. Enjoy your trip!

They think nothing of wearing tiny bikinis, no matter how old or overweight they are. This is so true - I have noticed it on every beach vacation we’ve had, all over Europe. I am overweight and over 60, and self conscious in swimwear, but have seen people older and bigger than me in bikinis or topless on beaches without a care.

Our tour director for Iceland has already told us if Blue Lagoon is closed, she has another one that locals go to that we will enjoy.

I found some great swim shorts and longer swim skirts at Lands End that might make some ladies feel more comfortable.

Haha, I guess I wasn't clear enough. Everyone is very active and able, it's wearing a bathing suit that some of them are struggling with. This actually makes me a little sad. I’m 51. And overweight. I don’t enjoy wearing a swimsuit, but I haven’t restricted my swimsuit wearing since I was a teen.(and I was only a few lbs overweight but had stretch marks on u thighs and was embarrassed ) Some of my best travel memories with and without my kids revolve around water. Actually in Iceland, we hiked back to a pool dug in the 1920’s into the side of a mountain. We hiked in the rain during the midnight sun. It’s such a special memory. Blue Lagoon has private showers if someone doesn’t like changing in public. There are robes and one can wear a coverup up to or even in the water. There are a ton of modest swimsuit options that even include shirts and shorts. If you end up at the Secret Lagoon or one like that, you may have to publicly shower. I’m not super cool with that, but I dealt with it.

I went to Sky Lagoon and loved it. You are almost always in the water. There isn’t lounging around. We went directly from locker room to water.

I'm hoping to get there someday, but there are many places on my bucket list and only so many $ to travel. My sister went with a group of girls to Iceland and LOVED it. They did Blue Lagoon, which I would definitely do. They also did some ice cave tour which I would NOT do as an overweight person. They walked across several boards over caverns and I'm sure my fat ss would be the one to break a board or fall off one. The photos were beautiful but nope, not gonna do it. Blue Lagoon absolutely!

The Blue Lagoon has been in the news lately because its affected by the erupting volcano. You might was to google that.

I've been there. I don't swim but did walk around in the water waist high. Later found a comforable chair and just relaxed.

No, when I was above the water laying on a mat getting massaged, I wasn't cold as he would dip me into the water sometimes. I would imagine that sitting on a chair that you would just dunk under every now and then. I really recommend the massage!

Lol here’s me thinking they wanted to be nude and find suits problematic! 😂
Loved the Blue Lagoon! We went very early in the morning (Jan) so it was pretty dark and not crowded. It was wonderful, the drinks, the face masks, the vast pools. The private showers and robes were very welcome for this shy visitor. Def don’t dunk any hair, and I will say the swimsuit I wore still hasn’t recovered but I keep wearing it in its stiffness because it’s been to the Blue Lagoon! When I go back I will definitely spring to stay onsite and for a massage. 💙
