Hello! We are dropping our DD off at SUNY Potsdam on August 22nd and my DH and I would like to have a mini-getaway to celebrate our empty nest. Potsdam is an hour away from the Canadian border and I think the closest bridge is Ogdensburg which would spit us out in Johnstown. We'd be going from Thursday evening and come home Sunday.
My question is: do we go to Kingston or somewhere else? The only time I've been in Kingston was at 11:00 on a Saturday night as a college freshman which was so many moons ago...lol. Ottawa is another option as neither of us has been there.
We're game to stay at a hotel, air bnb, anything really. We have a variety of interests so let's hear your suggestions!

Kingston is further away, Ottawa is closer. If you don't mind the travel, then go past Kingston to Toronto. Or head east and go to Montreal! Now Montreal would be my choice! Love that city! Old Montreal is beautiful! Ottawa is okay too.

We thought of Montreal but we'd like to save that for a time when we can really take our time and visit.

Ottawa is fantastic. My dd went to U of Ottawa so we drove up multiple times per year. Check the Tourism Ottawa website to see what's going on at that time. So many outdoor festivals, museums and of course the Parliament buildings.

We've always enjoyed Ottawa. Our older son went to university there because he was already comfortable with the city and he never moved back!
