This thread is not a place to bash President Biden or trump. There are other threads for that. This is to answer the question what human characteristics do you think a person, male or female, should have if they decide to run for President? As the Office of the President is the highest office in this country I always thought they should have a high moral character/moral compass. Lately I also think any candidate should have a willingness to lead. I also asked Google and found this article from UX Matters “ 13 Human Qualities You Must Have to Succeed in Work and Life”
link
From the article…. “Great leaders set forth a vision and live up to it. They communicate their vision and goals with clarity and inspire their teams to meet them. There is always alignment between what they say and what they do. The best leaders are forward-looking, competent, intelligent, and broad-minded. Effective leaders model good human qualities for the people who work for them, including honesty, fairness, straightforwardness, dependability, cooperativeness, determination, imagination, ambition, courage, caring, maturity, loyalty, self-control, and independence. They care for the people who work for them, delegate responsibility to them, and support them in what they do. They praise publicly and, when necessary, criticize or reprimand in private.,” Quite a list but then think of the power the President has in making decisions that affect us directly or indirectly. Agree or disagree? Is something missing that yiu think should be included?

I think whoever it is needs to appreciate that no matter how intelligent they are they don’t know everything and need to be willing to listen to other people who actually are experts in their fields. The smartest people bring other smart people into the fold and are able to listen and learn from them. If you have to tell people you’re the smartest person in the room, you usually aren’t.

Perhaps a vagina might be better? Otherwise someone who has had a hysterectomy is disqualified and seems somewhat discriminatory. My own thought for top qualities is confidence coupled with humility. Confident in their own decisions and ability and, at the same time, humility to know that they don’t have all the answers themselves and should act and make decisions after consultation with experts.

These days: a working knowledge of foreign affairs, integrity, and wisdom. I *prefer* someone with experience in the Senate because they understand how Congress works. Bill Clinton struggled with that for awhile. I’m not sure that Bush ever learned. Of course, they can learn, but it can take a bit of time.

Integrity, have some knowledge of world affairs, some US history would be helpful as well. He should understand the concepts of democracy and separation of church and state as well as the roles of the 3 branches of the government and hopefully be somewhat familiar with our Constitution.

He should understand the concepts of democracy and separation of church and state as well as the roles of the 3 branches of the government and hopefully be somewhat familiar with our Constitution. I agree with what you are saying but 1000% more. Not somewhat familiar but very familiar with the constitution. I know more about the U.S. Constitution than the Republicans seem to understand right now. A very clear understanding of geopolitics and the role the U.S. plays on the world stage. A very clear understanding of U.S. history and a clear path forward for the U.S. that supports and enhances the lives of all Americans. He or She should have served in a branch of government and seen how the system works. Only one person has ever been elected president who had not served in the military or a branch of government and the complete lack of understanding of how government works was painfully obvious on the world stage. Honest Integrity Altruism Compassionate Responsible Self Discipline Humility

Not to be hateful, having a vagina doesn't qualify anyone to be President, just like having a penis.
That said, at this point, anyone who isn't orange, has to be in court proceedings for illegal activities is a start. God I hate that person.

I think a President should be required to have served in the military. I think if you are commander in chief, it helps having that experience (just my personal opinion)
A president needs to be healthy, mentally & physically, be honest & moral. S/he needs to be somewhat charismatic, be a good speaker and someone who can take charge and shows authority

Well, including everything above, they should also be required to take an English language and civics test that immigrants have to take to become naturalized citizens. We all know a person like Joe Biden would pass it, and a person like trump would not. Immediate disqualification if they fail. I know I could never become president because I would absolutely fail the civics part of it. But I bet I know more than trump does.

Intelligence Integrity Empathy Well-educated Well-spoken Calm
Also, respect for human rights, belief in rehabilitation rather than imprisoning people for years, belief that education belongs in the hands of qualified educators, belief that healthcare is a human right. Committment to making the US a first world nation again.

This list was pretty good: (from a previous post above) The best leaders are forward-looking, competent, intelligent, and broad-minded. They praise publicly and, when necessary, criticize or reprimand in private.,”
I would add: ability to function with other world leaders and an awareness of world events and world problems.

I understand the minimum requirement ( I don’t want a 20 year old President) but I think there should be a maximum age limit as well. I Maybe like 75.
