Omg just talked to my mom and she talked to her and looks like it was approved already!! I can’t believe I just posted this and a day later it was approved! Now not sure how long it will take from here but I’m in shock!! This will help her so much. She is fine now but her alimony is coming to an end soon and she was getting a little worried about the future. She will sock this away until needed. ——————-
336 day waiting period. And that is on the 'fast' track since she has cancer. I guess I hope she doesn't die before it even happens. Good grief what a joke. Most likely she will never be able to work again. And what happens after the waiting period? How much longer after that before they even review it? What a joke. What if her funds run out before this even happens? Thankfully she still has a few years of alimony coming, but it's around the corner before it ends.

Sorry your sister is not well and needs to appy for disability. My BiL also had cancer and it was like 2 months before he was approved, so hopefully, your sister will not have to wait a whole fricking year. That just sounds awful and unacceptable. No sure if it is based on the type of cancer, but it shouldn't, so hopefully there is hope to received the benefit sooner. They do pay retroactive though. {{{Hugs}}}

Is this through SS or her insurance?
I hope she gets help before the time indicated. I am also sad for her and you that she is in this health crisis.

So do they not think her treatment will be successful, or is it that the treatment has done so much damage? Bless her heart.
Will pray that she gets approved pronto!

I'm sorry to hear of your sisters' illness. I hope there is some way she can expedite her claim. DH was just approved for SSDisability (cancer also) after a 220+ day period. It takes a while, there were sooooo many forms to fill out, and it seemed many were the same, asking the same stuff over and over. From what I've heard, he was lucky--we were told to expect the first application to be denied and that we would need to appeal. On a more hopeful note, my brother had colon cancer (stage 3 when diagnosed in 2015) and is doing well. He underwent chemo, radiation, and has a permanent colostomy bag, but went back to work a few years before retiring.

I filed SSD in December 2021. Yep.. still haven't gotten an answer. The thing online where you track it haa been at 90% since September 2022, and when I call they say all is in process. Finally heard from a woman about 6 weeks ago who at one point said "well once we get this info to your drs we have to give them 30 days to respond".
Almost 2.5 years and they'd not even contacted my drs yet.
I'm not fast tracked, but have 3 or so illnesses on the instant approval. But certainly hasn't helped. Thankfully I'm able to work limited hours.
I hope your sister is approved quickly

Well she has one or two more rounds of chemo, then they will do a Pet scan to see how it's working, then if everything looks okay she will be able to have her colonoscopy bag removed (PRAYING FOR THAT), but she will always be Stage Four due to the type of cancer and will always have to have some kind of treatment. (This is coming from someone who knows nothing about cancer/treatment until she got it, so we are learning as we go, it's crazy). Because of the type of cancer the doctor explained that even if there is no trace of cancer she is still Stage Four, because it is like someone shook a salt shaker into her body and you never know where the cancer is and could just pop up anywhere.

Are you talking about SS Disability? When DH applied, I went with him to the SS office and the guy said "you'll be approved fast", and he was, it was a couple of weeks at most. Granted he had a letter from his doctor saying his cancer was terminal. So maybe it's an automated reply as someone said.

I'll have to see if there is an update (I'm sure if there was she would have told me, but her memory is pretty bad with everything going on). Couple of weeks would be outstanding.

I don't know the time involved for my nephew. He said he got it with no trouble/no wait because his foot surgeon filled out the papers (or else gave him information, I am not sure). Anyway, he had no long involved wait or process to get the benefits.

Don't forget about the 5 month holding period. Even if approved quickly they won't cut a check until after its been the 5 months since applying, I don't know why they do this. .. she might should apply for SSI as well if she qualifies, assets come into play with SSI. it'll kick in quicker and fill the gap until SSD gets going .SSD will back pay and pay back to the date she applied, so there's that(the withheld 5 month stuff isn't included in the back pay).

For those of you who are having difficulty being approved for Social Security disability, we used Premier Disability. They helped my DH get approved and back pay from when he quit working. They cap their fees and were very reasonable. You only pay if they get you approved for benefits.
I have NO affiliation with them.

I’m sorry it’s turned into such a process for her. Nobody needs to go through that when they are I’ll.

I am so sorry that your sister is going through this. Hopefully it will be faster than the 336 days and she will get a back payment.

I'm so sorry your sister is going through this. I have only had to deal with SSI for my son, not SSDI. But I can tell you to stay on top of her mail. Check her online portal (or help her do that). When they mail in any requests, if you fail to respond, they will deny your application.

They all have staff who work in constituent services. They'll have you fill out a consent form for their staff to talk to the people at Social Security. It may help expedite the process.
