I admit, things often fly over my head. I realize there is a Matrix reference. But do you think they are referring to some sort of conspiracy theory here? I realize there were some over the recent eclipse. And the OP is someone I know who does lean towards some conspiracy theories etc.
Picture of full moon posted on someone's FB page. Someone else comments that it's funny that there is a full moon when it hasn't even been 28 days since the eclipse. OP responds "so red pill or blue pill?" with laughing emoji.

And the OP is wondering which pill they took, red referencing Republican, blue being Democrat.

Red and blue font reference political parties. They’re the pills in the matrix.

Right I get that, I just don't know why they were referenced here.

Right I get that, I just don't know why they were referenced here. The OP probably thinks the person making the comment about the moon is citing a conspiracy theory. And conspiracy theorist are usually portrayed to be Republicans, hence the "red pill". The commenter doesn't understand how you can have a solar eclipse and a full moon so close together, so something funny must be going on. FYI, the solar eclipse is more related to a new moon than a full moon.

The colors of the pills do not have to do with political parties.
The are widely believed to represent Prozac (a blue pill) and Premarin (a red pill).
If you know the Matrix reference, there’s nothing else to understand about the FB interaction.

That’s not what they represent in the movie, which is the only thing being referenced.
