your outdoor plants while you are out of town for a week, how much would you pay them? I would leave all the planters together, so they can water them easily.

How much time will it take? I have 4 window boxes and 6 in regular pots.

I would probably not pay an adult neighbor who was a friend because we reciprocate favors.
I would pay a neighbor kid. How many times do they need to come over? I assume walking distance, no more than a couple blocks? What I'm imagining would take less than 10 minutes a day, so I'd probably pay $10/day. I could be underestimating the effort/time though.

How much time will it take? I have 4 window boxes and 6 in regular pots. A hundred dollars. And I know that might sound extreme, but I'd want to make sure the kid actually does it and I think for a good price, the kid would really do it.

I usually pay some up front, and if my plants are alive and looking great when I get back, I pay more lol. $10-$20 a day depending on how many plants/how much hose moving/time it takes.

I wouldnt expect to pay an adult neighbor- that is what neighbors do for one another. A child, depends on the age, but at most $20-$25.

At least $10/day, assuming child can walk to your house and the watering won’t take very long/isn’t physically strenuous to get the house out and back.
I’d go up from $10/day for difficulty/distance/time.

The neighbor across the street from us asked one of my girls to water her plants that her sprinkler system didn't reach. It took maybe 5 minutes, and they were gone under 10 days. She paid my daughter $20, which I thought was fair since it didn't take long, and we had rain a couple of the days.

Enough to make it worth someone's while. A kid that can already have a job might be offered $10-$15 per day.

I cant imagine it would take more than 10 or 15 minutes, even less if we get rain.

An actual neighbor that lives on the same block? I wouldn't think any payment would be necessary. This is something that neighbors do to help each other. If you must pay a kid I'd say $20.

Our neighbor does it for free but DH plows his long driveway in the winter. We trade favors back and forth pretty regularly. But for a kid who had to come from down the block, I’d probably pay about $30-40 for the whole week. The hose would be pulled out and left where the plants are so all they would have to do would be to show up and turn the hose on and off.
We also have cameras so we would be able to tell how often they came and how long they stayed. We busted the guy who was supposed to come spray the creeping charlie in our yard at the lake because we could tell that he was only in our yard for literally five minutes and we could see what a crappy job he did. Also, he sprayed the weed killer directly on my lilies of the valley and almost killed them. Needless to say, we got a refund.

I think it would depend on the age of the kid and your relationship. I might ask our good friends' 8 year old to help, knowing that parents would need to assist, but the kid would be learning responsibility (definitely involving parent in the request). In that case, I'd pay $20 for the week or something like that.
If it's a 12 to 16 year old, I'd probably pay $8 to $10 per day.

I would probably pay $20 for a kid to water. Particularly if it is pretty easy. Close by, hose/water nearby or bucket. It couldn't take more than 5-10 minutes.

When I’m gone for a week I pay my neighbor boy, who is a 7th grader this year, $50 and I bring back something fun for him from where I’ve been along with a package of interesting Oreos and some interesting sodas! I get the fun foods at Hy Vee! It’s easy and they have fun different things! It’s also a very small town, so everyone is close. His dad thinks it’s too much, but I think it’s great that he keeps my flowers alive, and he thinks $50nis a lot of money! Ha!

I would pay at least $10 a day. I wouldn't think to pay less. I am especially generous with kids. It needs to be enough to make it worth the trouble and I like to encourage kids to work.
When my nephew works for me I pay him $20 an hour. He is always enthusiastic to work because he knows the pay is generous.
You all have a better relationship with your neighbors than I do. I don't have a bad relationship, I have no relationship. I wouldn't think to ask them to do anything for me without paying them.

We aren’t talking about deciding on the pay scale for a full time employee. We’re talking about giving a cute kid some money for doing you a favor as a one off.

You can’t make him drink? 😂😂😂
To answer your question—if the kid lives close by, $15-20 per day should be more than adequate.
If you treat them well, you my have earned a reliable helper for more important tasks as they get older.

My brother-in-law is feeding my cat while I'm going to DC. I'm not paying him "per hour", I'm paying him for taking the time out of his life to help me- it probably comes to $50 or more an hour. I have the money and he is doing me a huge favor that saves me money in the long run.

An adult presumably has a job and other obligations and helping you is taking time away from their family and free time, he probably has to drive to get to your place and back which takes even more time, and caring for a pet is way different than watering a plant. That’s totally different than a neighbor kid coming over from a couple doors down, spending fifteen minutes at your house turning the hose on and off and going back home. My 13 year old shovels the walk for a couple different neighbors when it snows. It takes her about 20-30 minutes per house to do for an average snowfall. When the snow is heavy it’s hard work and she feels it’s fair for them to pay her $15 for that.

Shoveling snow (especially if it is the wet heavy snow), I would pay much more for that than watering plants. We normally do our own driveway and walk but once and a blue moon for whatever reason, if a kid comes by to offer, we would pay at least $20 bucks (even if they do a crappy job..lol) and we have a small area...

She set her own prices and they agreed to it. Sometimes there might be 4-5” of light snow so it’s easier and she gets done faster, other times it’s heavy and takes longer. She figures it all evens out in the end. The year before last when it snowed and snowed endlessly, the kid made some bank. Last winter she only shoveled twice.

I have done $50 in the past for a tween neighbor. Adult neighbors I have given a $50 gift card and they never want anything of course.
It takes about ten minutes a day, and I tell them they don't have to water every day....just keep them alive.

I was going to ask a 8 year old neighbor to water the garden for a couple of days while we're out of town. Probably take 10-15 minutes. I'm sure her parents will supervise a bit, and we're good friends with them. I was going to do $10 per day. I look at it as "it takes a village", and a few bucks to help a kiddo learn some responsibility and see the reward of that is a good thing I feel.
