Helping your young adult child say goodbye to the 17 year old cat she’s loved since she (the kid) was six years old.
Not fun at all.

Oh, it's horrible. We love our pets so much, but when they pass our children really hurt. I'm so sorry. My mama heart goes out to you, @merge.

When I had to call my daughter who left her dog with me for an evening and our new adopted dog killed it. Then had to call son overseas to tell him. One of the worst nights of my life. My youngest witnessed it.
Anytime there is a death with a pet and kids involved is never ever fun.
EDITED:
OMG I didn't really mean to be a one-upper.. I am so sorry for your loss Merge.

Helping your young adult child say goodbye to the 17 year old cat she’s loved since she (the kid) was six years old. Not fun at all. We had to do that during the pandemic with DD and her college dog. Having to watch her make the decision and then follow through just broke my mama heart into a thousand pieces. I'm so sorry for your DD's loss. Hugs to both of you.

Oh no, I am so sorry. We had to do the same with our sailor boy. It was "his" dog we had to make a decision on. Luckily, he had been home at Christmas and really saw her condition.
We love our furbabies so much and it is so hard if those pets have grown up in the home while the kids have also grown up with them.

**hugs** It's the absolute worst. I'm so sorry for your loss and for how grueling it is to see your child navigate loss.
We lost both our 21 year old cat and our 15ish year old dog when our son was 12. He didn't remember life without them and his sun rose and set over the cat in particular. It was one of the most gut-wrenching things we've been through since becoming parents.

Helping your young adult child say goodbye to the 17 year old cat she’s loved since she (the kid) was six years old. Not fun at all. This same thing happened to me with my childhood cat. I was in my first apartment and I was about to take my cat to be euthanized, so I was at least a little prepared. I was giving him some of his last hugs before we left, and he crawled into my lap, meowed 3 times and passed in my arms. I just about lost my mind. My neighbor's mom was just outside visiting, and she wrapped me in her arms to comfort me and cry with me. I don't know how I would have handled it if that sweet lady hadn't been there. It makes me cry now, and that was almost 30 years ago! I'm so sorry your dd has to go through this.

Im sorry. I've been there and it's not a place I would ever choose to go again. There isn't much worse pain that loosing your beloved pet that you've grown up with.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. It's so hard. I hope your daughter is okay. I went through a similar thing when DD was 20, and the dog she got for her 6th birthday had to be put to sleep while she was on her way back from an interstate trip.

I am so sorry for your loss. It's one of the hardest things a pet parent has to go through. Our pets mean so much to us. Hugs to everyone who has experienced it.

I am so sorry. We lost our 18 year old cat a few months ago and it was especially hard on my 10 year old. She was clearly his favorite human during the last few years and it was devastating to see her hurting so much.

Yes not fun at all. When we had to put our Ella to sleep the two kids home (older teenagers) came with. It was harder to watch my 16 year old son break down than it was to hold Ella.
So sorry you've lost a pet @merge

Nothing. So sorry. In time she will appreciate all the years she had. I encourage having a funeral or maybe make a photo collage/book, something to do to honor the memory and have some closure.
