The local FB groups have been all a buzz about the zebras (I'm also in WA). Hadn't heard about the bear, though.

We had some cows get loose on the freeway a couple of days ago - traffic was completely stopped - then a girl rode by on a horse with a lasso…

The duck thing must have been horrifying for people to watch. Momma duck would have been bad enough, but the ducklings? I am not sure I would ever stop screaming. I know it is nature, but I just couldn't watch that.

I'm so sad they haven't found the zebra yet. I'd imagine after 2 days on it's own it's got to be pretty scared/cold/hungry/thirsty. Poor thing.

Ha! We do get involved in roundups once in a while! Some draft horses had liberated themselves from their pasture. The neighbor called the owners and they were out of town, they told him to call my daughter. She went to her tack shed and grabbed a bunch of lead ropes and went over and clipped on to their halters and walked them back to where they were supposed to be. She was 12 and TINY! The old guy was so impressed watching her do that, that he had to call me and tell me about it. She had been working with those drafts for a few years and was their junior hitch driver at draft shows. She wasn't very big, but man she was (and still is) tough!

I was a little surprised that none of the kids/families seemed to leave when the bear started snacking on the ducklings. Circle of life experience for sure!

Thinking the forth zebra hasn't been recovered yet?

Thinking the forth zebra hasn't been recovered yet? No. We're 4 days into this and the last zebra has not been found. Earlier in the week the overnight temps were in the low to mid 30's (I think it was about 40 last night) which to me seems awfully cold for a zebra who doesn't have shelter. Also, he is loose in an area where cougars live. Hopefully they won't see the zebra as prey.

People are having a lot of fun with this on social media but I really wish they would wait until he’s found in case this doesn’t turn out well.

The bear and ducks post reminded me of a somewhat similar thing we witnessed once. We were in Rome - a vacation of a lifetime. We had hired an apartment - it was fabulous, looking out over terracotta roof tiles to the Forum and Palatine Hill. Just amazing and we felt so lucky to have such a wonderful experience. We would just sit there for a period each day, soaking it all in; and watching the pigeons that congregated on the roof next door. Lots of pigeons, going about their businesss - eating, feeding, preening…. Until a seagull swooped down, grabbed one of the pigeons in its beak, and shook and shook and shook the pigeon until it was dead. Then proceeded to eat. There was utter chaos for a minute of course, while all the other pigeons flew off, until there was only quiet as the seagull was left alone with its meal. I had always thought seagulls were scavengers, but apparently not. Just nature being nature of course, but disturbing and unsettling anyway.

Just read they are closing the trail heads were the zebra has been sighted because so many lookie loos are out trying to catch a glimpse of her. They are worried it will send her further into the wilderness.

When we were in Punta Cana, the resort had peacocks. And while they were beautiful birds, they also gave a show on how to make baby peacocks, right outside the buffet restaurant area.
