I just saw this on FB blog.creativeescape.com/creative-escape-events-spellbinders-weekend/It's really tempting because I live very close to it. I have never done anything like this and might be fun to connect with more local crafty people. My only worry that the products will be a let down. Please help me decide. Should I go for it or not?!?!

IMO, it depends on what you want from it. For me, in-person in a no. Too people-y for me. So the in-person part, and crops, add no value for me, whereas it would for someone else. The behind-the-scenes tour might be kinda cool.
Because of that, then, $299 seems kinda high for three classes/kits for me, to also have pay for hotel and meals on my own. Make and takes will add some value probably. Be nice to know that ahead of time what they consists of.
That would be my thought process without considering this whole Weekender debacle, LOL. Now, after paying for that kit box, not a chance. However, I do realize that my not liking the kit products is personal opinion, not quality issues.
If you decide to go, share with us how it goes/what you make!

Are you close enough to day-trip it? That would cut down on expense, for sure. Also, it says the price doesn't go up until the beginning of July, but if you want to stay on site, they ask you to book by mid-June, so you could take better advantage of the extra time to decide if you were commuting to it. Even if you did want to stay at the same hotel, there's like seven weeks to decide. I should hope there will be some sneak peeks in there!

Oof. Just watched the unboxing video, I would not be happy.I am amending this because I think that the in person Spellbinders event is completely different than the Weekender after consideration. While the stuff in the weekender kit was not to my taste, the in person craft event sounds really fun and azcrafty if I still lived in the Valley I'd love to go. I miss living in Tempe! Anyway, if you can swing it, go for it.

Oh my gosh!! I used to live close to there! If I still lived there, I'd be signed up already. Plus it comes with the adorable little Scout machine. I had so many crafty friends in Arizona and I loved crafting with various groups. I haven't met a single crafty sole where I live now, so yes, I'd say go for it. Plus I may be one of the odd ones that really likes the stuff in the Weekender box.

So definitely not staying there.

I have a group I make cards with and crafty friends, but they are more old school and no one does online events. I already have the Empress mini so not sure if I want this machine. I have hand issues so no cranking for me. Well I might get this as my birthday present. I don't see myself spending money on travel and room so this would be the perfect event to try out. And I really like Nicole S. style and would be fun to meet her in person.

Given that you are so close and you really enjoy one of the teachers, and that it is in person would probably sway it for me. If there was a workshop taught by Shimelle and it was 15 min from me I'd sign up no matter how dumb the products were last time lol. I say go and enjoy and happy birthday! You can (I am sure) sell that machine and recoup some $$.

I had so much fun crafting in AZ when I lived there. I do have a couple crafty friends here, but it seems like AZ has so much going on for papercrafting. Edited to add I am driving over an hour this Saturday to take a class with Jenn Shurkus and am so freaking excited about it!!!

Not having to stay on site makes it a much much better deal. And I missed the part about getting the new machine. Even I you don't want it, I am sure you could recoup some money from it.
The in-person adds enough value for you, sounds like, so even if the products are meh, you would most likely enjoy it and it be worth your while.
Happy Birthday!!!!

I say go! It sounds like fun.
I attended the Scrapbook expo last week and had a blast! I actually didn't think I would have that much fun since I'm very introverted. But it's so much fun being around people who love cardmaking too. There's a different type of energy you can't experience online.

I’ll be honest and say that I wouldn’t do it without having a sneak peek. I bought “The Weekender” event and so that completely colors my response, see below.
I’ve completed 2 Crop and Create events, 3 Pink Fresh Events, and one Concord and 9th event. After much thought, this is the only one that I am very likely to skip in its entirety AND I will likely give away the products unused. I can’t get excited about doing any of the prep or about giving away any of the finished cards. I am that uninspired by it all. Totally disappointed in Spellbinders.
By the way, the little platinum is adorable!

I had three local stores to shop at and just tons of people interested in pretty paper and stamps. I really miss that.

Other than a couple of SCT Crop & Create live events, I have been to only one other in-person event--with Dyann Reavely a few years ago. I enjoyed meeting some of the personalities (Vicki Boutin, Dyann) and I loved learning new techniques. My advice, azcrafty , would be to go if you want to meet up with people. I can't imagine what techniques Spellbinders would be teaching that you don't already know... Maybe glimmer system or better press tricks?

And just try it out. I need to see if I can take Friday off, thats the only hiccup. And want to wait for more information. I would imagine they are going to keep it to only diecutting especially because you get the little machine with your class.

With this in person event I would like to meet people localy who make cards more what I do and do online events. So hopefully we can have a similar club like yours. My hope is that we get 3 full class products. Spellbinder always did great at the SCT C &C events. So I'm hoping for the same.
