I’m being priced out of scrapbooking and I have a generous budget. I checked out the new collection at ACOT and gasped. When ephemera and sticker books cost over $10, I really think two or three times before I buy.
Am I the only one who is having to cut back on items I used to buy with little thought?

I won't deny price increases in general, but for what it's worth, the more expensive products from the VB Mixed Media line are more of a "mega pack" than a normal ephemera pack. The one for 12.99, for example, is essentially a full pack of washi stickers, a full pack of cardstock ephemera, plus a bunch of acetate ephemera (checking on how we have those named as that isn't very clear currently). The regular ephemera packs from the new Bold + Bright line are still 5.99 and the sticker book is 6.99.

Thanks Matt. I get that these are larger packs. They are what comes with the new line and they are more expensive than I’m comfortable paying. I can only speak for my budget.

If you have time to search for cherries on ACOT, you can earn points. Points = money off. This helps offset the order cost. Hope that helps!

I am a frequent shopper at ACOT and have lots of cherry points. I simply find the current price points alarming. I have a very generous scrapbook budget and am able to buy what I chose. I just chose not to buy nearly as much as the prices increase.
I am fortunate to have a huge stash that I built over 20+ years. I don’t buy in multiples or purchase on a whim as I used to.

Thanks Matt. I get that these are larger packs. They are what comes with the new line and they are more expensive than I’m comfortable paying. I can only speak for my budget. Those aren't really new embellishments in the the VB mixed media collections. The images and art are from past collections - I have the ephemera from all 4 of those previously released lines. The new packs are bigger and have more of a selection but the artwork is identical to what I already have. I think it is interesting that they chose to rerelease old designs. The prices on scrapbook stuff is getting crazy, but the price on everything is getting crazy. I don't buy nearly the amount of embellishments I used to. Die cuts are crazy expensive in a lot of lines. I do buy 49 & Market and Doodlebug die cuts, even at the insane price, because the packs are huge. Some companies, particularly European and Japanese ones, have insanely expensive die cuts for the amount you get. Stickers aren't my favorite but if I need an embellishment that isn't paper, they are quite a bit cheaper. I fussy cut things out of the paper a lot more than I used to, too I see that some brands are charging a lot more for the fussy cut patterned paper sheets, even though it cost the exact same to manufacture. Mintay, for example. Their paper is $1.50 a sheet but the paper that has the images you can fussy cut is $2.29. That is ridiculous.

The price for scrapbook items in Canada is shocking... $12 for a package of thickers at some stores, whereas some other places sell 6x8 paper pads for $16. 12x12 collection kits usually go for $22... plus we pay 13 percent tax on everything I've become much choosier with regards to where I shop... and usually only buy items on sale. Gone are the good ol' days when Winners / Home Sense were selling overstock 6x6 paper pads for $2, and 12x12 collection kits for $6 etc... I also stocked big time whenever a scrapbooking store closed. And yes, now I am glad I stocked up when I did! I'm thinking of upgrading my Silhouette to their cut and print machine... this way I can just cut and print embellishments, and/or eventually 12x12 paper for a reasonable cost.

The Silhouette print and cut feature is one of my favorite things to use. Silhouette has a lot of fun print & cut designs, but I am also downloading Heartfelt Creations digital designs to print and cut. My sweet DH recently bought me the 12x12 printer that I was saving up to get, so I have started to print 12x12 papers, too. I love being able to do this! I’m not a digital scrapper, but I’m looking into more of the digital scrapbook companies, to hopefully get more variety and options for printing and cutting papers and ephemera.

I purchased my Silhoutte SD in 2011! And it is still going strong... it can cut, but doesn't have the cut and print feature.
Once I've used all of my current cutting mats, I intend to finally upgrade my machine 🙂

Are you talking about the Paperie Packs? Those are pricey. But they do have a ton of stuff in them. I switch it up and buy those over all the ephemera and journaling packs sometimes. Or I skip paperie and buy those two packs instead. It’s sometimes more expensive to buy both the journaling and ephemera packs than the Paperie pack.
The best way to buy them is to go halfsies with a friend on the paperie because they often have doubles (some have even had triples) of everything in the box. So if you don’t need things X2-3 and have a friend with a similar style, that’s the most affordable.
Another tip. Vicki uses a lot of similar feeling goodies in her paperie packs. So a 6x4 notecard. You can use it across so many of her collections with similar colors. I have used her Paperie from Print Shop on Create + Discover layouts. So many of her colors and imagery mix and match. I have Print Shop & Where to Next paperie packs. And I’ve pulled them out to use on so many of her and other collections.!

There was a period of time when I had no scrapbook budget but was fortunate enough to have a stash.
Hybrid scrapbooking helped fill any supply gaps due to the abundance of freebie digital elements. I found using new techniques with older supplies gave them new life. I mounted old stickers to cardstock to make embellishment clusters, cut patterned paper to make ephemera, etc. It obviously takes more effort and is more time consuming, but you can still enjoy the hobby.
This obviously doesn’t address hobby related inflation, but hopefully it brings some solace about getting priced out of the hobby.

I may not “have to” cut back, but I have chosen to do so. In my case, I started thinking about “when is enough actually enough” last year. I am making more of an effort to minimize buying online, and to use what I have. I have no LSS near me, but the online prices have definitely made me hesitate. I think the cheap goodies that I used to buy at Tuesday Morning have contributed to the sticker shock of current retail prices. I was a stamper before I was a scrapbooker, and I have a ton of stamps, dies, various supplies, etc., as well as electronic cutters with a lot of print and cut files. I have always been used to making at least some of my scrapbook embellishments. Do they look as polished as the ephemera in the packs you buy? Not in all cases, but there is a huge difference in the cost, and I haven’t used most of the ephemera packs I bought at TM, anyway. I add Wink of Stella to my print and cut ephemera, and they look really nice. My family won’t know the difference when they see my pages or cards.
