There was a post on fb about the show V that ran on May 1st and 2nd 1983. I was 7 at the time and the brainwashing scene scared the crap out of me. Later that year, I watched The Day After and it scared me for years.
My mom said she didn't realize I was paying attention.
Do you remember these shows? Was I the only one they scared?

I loved V... but I thought it ws a longer show than that? Or was that a movie that started it and then there was a regular series later? I have to go google now because I know I liked it but I don't remember much of anything.
My parents wouldn't let me watch The Day After.
The reveal of Bob hiding behind the bed in Twin Peaks was (and still is) the scariest moment on tv I can think of.

It ran for two seasons. 1983-1984ish. I was graduating that year and didn't like the premise of it.

It scared the crap out of me too… I remember them eating the mice… and didn’t they have green blood?

I loved V also. I bought the paperback with babysitting money in 1985 and still own the tattered copy. I bought the series on DVD and watch it every so often. V was a 4 hour miniseries (may 1983), then an additional 6 hour mini series (the final battle - may 1984). The TV show afterwards aired for one season (84-85 season).
I still, to this day, have managed to avoid seeing The Day After. I was in 6th grade when it aired and the next day we discussed it in every single class, so 6 times. Nuclear war was my greatest childhood fear and it is terrible when you have no control over it.

In May of 1983, I was working full time with three young boys and a baby girl due in July. To be honest, I don't remember much about those years. Pop culture just went on without me.

I don't know what either of these are.

I don't know what either of these are. V was an alien show where the aliens looked human. The Day After was a one night show (maybe two, I don't recall) about the aftermath of a nuclear bomb.

I only know the show V from 2009.
Didn’t know it was a remake.

I don't remember much from the show. I remember the 2 babies and I believe the alien baby died. And Marc Singer was a star. His sister in real life was Lori Singer who played Ariel in Footloose.

I loved both versions of V, alien invasions are one of my favourite things. I haven't seen the day after but I like the sound of it.

I remember hearing about V when I was a kid (I would have been 6 or 7 when it came out) but I dont think I saw it. I remember watching the remake in 2009 but it left no impression on me at all.

Yes I remember both. I also remember Testament with Jane Alexander. This one hit home hard for me. My son loved He Man and in the movie a little boy buried all his He Man toys because there wasn't enough food. There was was also a British one called Threads. All scared me so much.

I was only 10 so I didn’t watch either of those when they were on, but it was popular to show The Day After to middle schoolers in science class for some reason, so I was traumatized by that around 1986-87.
I did watch some of the V remake in this century. 😉

I loved V. Loved it. Loved.it.
In fact, just last night I made a reference about some cramps I'm having to a baby alien trying to claw its way out.
I re-watched it a few years ago. It is terrible. Cheezy to the max. I still loved it!!!

I loved V! That was some peak TV for my 11year old self. The baby alien, GASP.
I remember The Day After hype, ( we were all convinced we were going to go out in a nuclear war at that point) but I don’t remember actually watching the movie.

We loved and watched V in our house. Every once in a while I see something pop up about it. There's one particular scene that sticks in my head of the alien/lizard face being revealed, and I remember that scared me, but the rest of it didn't bother me.

I loved both V’s. And The Day After. To this day, every once in a while, I have dreams about aliens being seen in the sky. Like, you look up and there will be a whole network of aliens darting about. When I wake up, I’m still scared.

I think I watched V and I think we watched The Day After in school. I remember the premise but don’t really remember much about it.
Reading more about V maybe I started watching and then stopped. I don’t do scary shows.

I would not have rewatched that! Still wouldn't

My parents did not let me watch Day After Tomorrow, I've never seen it. I wish my parents would have not let me watch this. I was a teenager and I remember laying awake at night and hearing jets fly over and praying that they weren't nuclear missle launches. Think big hair in the early 1980s ... To this day, if I smell aqua-net hairspray it makes my stomach turn and I think about this movie. We lived not too far from the setting of the film. I think this may be one reason it affected me so much. There were also many stories on the news about the many missle silo locations around were we live and that was why we were such a high military target. UGH. I remember seeing promos for V. I think my Dad may have watched it but I don't remember much of it except it was sci-fi ish?

I watched the Day After while far away from home at a swim meet. It did scare our group of teen girls. What I remember was that no commercials aired during the first part, so it seemed "real".
It is strange that I remember how I felt, but not much about the actual plot!

Cheezy to the max. I still loved it!!! We were apparently separated at birth, because this is me, down to re-watching it a couple years ago and loving it still. There wasn’t much I wasn’t allowed to watch if it was on public tv, the only time my Dad said absolutely no was The Day After. He explained it to me, which made me want to watch it even more. One tv in the living room made that impossible

I can't believe V came out in 1983. I remember watching the series and loving it, but would've only been around 10/11 at the time. The Day After on the other hand scared the cr*p out of me. I still get a bit freaked out just thinking of it.
