I'm in DFW so we really haven't been impacted much by all of the recent bad weather but my BIL is headed to the Houston suburbs today to help his sister and father as they are in the path of a lake being released. They were directly in Harvey's path when that happened a few years ago and both of their houses flooded. Devastating to think that could happen again.
Any peas affected? Sending good thoughts to those impacted.

On TT my second FYP video was of a truck being swept away and the driver having to escape the cab and climb his truck as it was being swept away and flooded. I was like holy poop!
Hope Texas peas and everyone who lives there is safe and doesn't experience damage .

It's real bad north of Houston in the Woodlands, Spring, Humble areas and further north. My SO's neighborhood near Lake Livingston has many homes on the creek that have flooded. His mom is on the lake and her dock is about to be swamped by the rising lake level. All of the rain falling into the Lake Conroe and Lake Livingston watersheds is headed downstream and the areas south of the lakes, after the dams, will be inundated. They are saying the rainfall amounts are approaching Harvey levels.

It's real bad north of Houston in the Woodlands, Spring, Humble areas and further north. The areas to the North and Northeast of Houston are the ones really being hit hard. We are in the middle of Houston proper and have had just over an inch of rain. All that rain will be heading South though and those who live near the creeks/bayous will have to pay close attention to the water levels. @merge How is the situation where you are? Are you in the path of flooding? Merge - What are the water level projections for your area once the water gets down this way?

North of Austin and we have had so much rain. We got another 2-1/2 inches overnight. Over 7 inches last week. I've lost count but I would guess around 15 inches total in the last week or so. We were in severe drought conditions so we needed it but holy moly...do we have to get it all at once? Our lakes (Belton and Stillhouse) are filling up fast and that's good because they were way down. It's a blessing and a curse.
Stay safe, Texas peas!

I thought that too but then was like if the current was able to push that truck, it would be too strong for him.

SO just called. He had to leave work and go to his mom's to pull the kayaks and some other items off the docks or they were going to get swept away. She may lose her swim out dock as it is pretty much underwater now.

There's been major flood mitigation work done down here since Harvey, and it seems to be pretty effective. The rain we got yesterday would normally have flooded my street over the curbs, and it didn't at all this time. Our biggest loss was that we had concert tickets in The Woodlands last night and the show was postponed. Minor problems, to be sure!

@merge How is the situation where you are? Are you in the path of flooding? Thanks for asking! No, I don't think our area will experience flooding. The city did major flood mitigation around here after we had three flood years in a row (2015, 16, and 17), and it seems to be doing its job.

I too live north of Austin, in the Temple area and hesitate to leave home. Thankfully, I get groceries delivered. One minute it is sunny and pretty, the next it starts thundering and storming. We are now having to worry about the water treatment plants flooding and contaminating our drinking water.

Sorry Texas..
The news here is showing pictures, interviewing those who are available. They talked to a family that sheltered in their home during a tornado. Their home was destroyed and they were injured. A little boy, maybe 6-8 yrs old, his whole face was cut and bruised, one eye swollen shut.
Please be careful. They are predicting more to come.

My BIL has been sending pics of the water rising at his dad's house and it's almost up to his deck. Lake Conroe was apparently released and they are seeing the rise in the water by them. They are in the Kingwood area.

My parents are up near some of the flooding but they are fine. My dad is also great about hurricane supplies, etc. so even if they get blocked in for a while, they are fine if not thrilled to be eating ravioli for all meals.
We're in Austin and have gotten just kind of a nice amount here - lots of rain but mostly not too much at one time. The unfortunate thing is that we've needed the rain to fall over our reservoirs and their watersheds, and it just really isn't. It's like there's an invisible dome or something. It's so weird how rain works. (And I actually have a better than average understanding of this stuff, lol!)
Please, everyone stay safe and be smart. Remember that water can easily be deeper than it appears, even if you think you know its depth for a fact, and that it only takes a tiny amount of water to lift a vehicle. And always, always remember that life is infinitely more valuable than property.
