Being available 24/7 is annoying!
Texting and specifically group chats. My mom and one sister post on it most of the time and I have no clue what they are talking about mostly it's links to videos on and off all day long.
My mom also sends me daily links to random videos on both Instagram and Facebook with no context. I almost always ignore them. If there was a "watch this you might like it" message, I'd be more interested, but for all I know she's sent the video to everyone.
Today, in my Facebook messages, she sent me a photo of her messy living room. No words, just a photo of her couch with piles of stuff on it. I asked if it was a scavenger hunt because I can't figure out why she needs me to look at this photo...
Maybe I'm just cranky (it's been a stressful week) but I would like to throw my phone (and social media) away!

Turn off notifications for group chats and any individual who presumes too much on you. You can sit down and look at them when you have time and feel like it.

I'm not sure how to turn off a notification for a group text without removing myself from the entire chat, but I will see if I can figure it out... I've been thinking of deleting Instagram completely, I just haven't done it yet. 2024 1st world problems...

I mean, you can mute any chat, app, text thread, or person, then unmute them at any time.
You can also use various DND features programmed to silence anything you don’t want while also letting through anything you do need.
Your phone works for you, figure out how to use it.

I don't blame you. I do not carry a phone with me. I realize that makes me a very odd one out in today's world. But I first bought a cell phone in the 90s for emergencies while I was out and about, and that's still the only reason I own one. I know that it would not add to my happiness or well-being to have it with me all of the time. And I'm not interested in having to make adjustments on it to keep up with what someone is doing or not doing that annoys me, kwim? Plus, I can't see well to use such a small screen for texting, and I really don't do well having conversations of any length on cell phones, either. So for me, being the weird one without a phone always within a foot of me really just works out pretty well. I carry it when I am out. But at home, I am happy to not have it with me. I do admit to getting ornery when companies insist on sending verification codes only to a cell phone, though. (Related vent----one thing that always drives me a little batty is when people who do have a phone in their pocket or purse at all times sit there giving out/sharing false info or bemoaning that they don't know something, because I always think---you're carrying around a world's worth of information--which to me is the one really cool thing about phones--and you're not bothering to check. )

This. You do not have to be held hostage by your phone. Google whatever model you have and find a you tube video. You can learn so much. Personally, I recommend the Do Not Disturb feature --- set that baby and forget about it until you want to deal with things.

I went to sounds in settings and turned off sounds for text messages--actually all sounds but the phone ringing. I check text and email when it is convenient for me.
I still have a landlines. All business or physicians have only the land line number. I hate the reminder calls so I don't want them on my cellphone.
