I thought they died surfing too. I did not expect this. Partying in a border town, I might, but camping and surfing is generally pretty safe all over the world.
How awful.

I’m so very sorry for these three young men and their loved ones. I have long considered all of Mexico unsafe and wouldn’t travel there for any reason.

Scary stuff. My son was there earlier this year with friends. One of the friends girlfriends was local but now lives in the States; that gave them a false sense of security I'm sure. If I remember correctly they did not spend the night. He goes to California annually I will have to make sure he and his friends know about this.

Same! This is awful. And I also would be terrified if one of my girls was heading that way. It's interesting, because my first thought when I heard three men were dead, was that they had been murdered. I have always thought that Mexico was dangerous, and not somewhere that I would ever consider going. But numerous people have said no no, it's fine, just stay in the tourist areas and you'll be safe. (And yes, I realise that these guys were not at a tourist resort.) I sure as hell would not want my daughter to go there. I wouldn't be exaggerating if I said that I would be on my knees begging her not to go. Mexico has travel advisories just about everywhere. That being said, we are going at the end of May for our niece's wedding. We dont plan to leave the resorr because lately the tourist areas have not been safe either.

This just breaks my heart for their families. I have been on many surf trips to Ensenada and always felt very safe. However, times have changed a lot and I don't really feel safe driving a car in very many places in Mexico.

Oh my gosh, I was following this story over the past weekend. I'm so very sorry, this story was heartbreaking. Sending my love to all those affected, especially the families of those poor young men.
