I've seen people ask that type of question before, and I've given different answers from time to time. But now, returning to crafting with all of my tools still packed away, I'm surprised to learn which tool I am truly missing the most. (For those who don't know, I have all but one bankers box of papers packed away for the foreseeable future, and the only tools I have available are just standard desk drawer type items like scissors, adhesive, ruler, standard hole punch, and a few pens.) So the unexpected answer (at least for right now!): a bone folder of all things! I've been making cards and my gosh, I miss that thing! And let me tell you, that was never once my answer when chatting on threads about this subject in the past.

My paper trimmer... if I had to measure everything with a ruler and cut with scissors nothing would be straight

Paper cutter! I have several and would have a hard time paper crafting without having at least one. If I had to choose one, it would be my Fiskers ProCision Rotary Bypass Trimmer. I recently cut some thin fun foam to line a box. It cut so beautifully! I don’t think I’d enjoy crafting if I didn’t have my paper trimmer.

My paper trimmer... if I had to measure everything with a ruler and cut with scissors nothing would be straight This sums it up for me. I sometimes have trouble cutting straight even with my trimmer. And I want to qualify that the trimmer I would miss most is the one that takes up the most space--my Fiskars rotary blade trimmer. I have used portable slide-a-blade trimmers, but they never work as well as the one on my counter.

My reverse tweezers. I didn’t realize how much I would use that little gadget until I bought a pair and know I own 4!
I have a scanNcut so I could survive without my paper trimmer and I can think of a lot of things around the house that could be used as replacements for most of my other tools.

I guess my answer is also my trimmer, even though it doesn't always cut straight. It's the first thing I put on my work table when I'm making a l/o. Fun question melanell.

Paper trimmer and my Tiny Attacher are my most used tools followed closely by my Xyron sticker maker.

My paper trimmer, followed very closely by my circle punches. I use those on almost every single layout.

I don't do much large piece work, so a paper trimmer I could live without, but I very much see why it's most folk's favourite.
For me, it'd be a close tie between: • 6" cork backed metal ruler • needlepoint tweezers • tiny metal spatula/palette knife • precision scissors
These four end up out on my desk every single crafting session, without fail.

I was going to say my Big Shot, but after reading the responses, definitely the paper trimmer. But the die cutter is next!

I didn't have bone folder until very recently and I always just flipped my scissors around and held the closed blades and used the scissors handle. Worked fine! I got a bone folder when I was gifted a score pal. I think I would miss my mini empress and dies the most. Getting that thing has made me love die cutting all over again.

My #1 is my die cutter. I hate fussy cutting.

1. My paper trimmer. I can't cut a straight line, lol. 2. My ATG gun. I can't live without it.

It's been a long time since I paper scrapped, but I'm pretty sure that my paper trimmer would be the tool I missed the most.
If we're talking about digital scrapping, the marquee tool in Photoshop is probably the one that I would miss the most. Which is similar to a paper trimmer in a way..... it's what I use to 'cut' digital paper into different shapes eg. squares, rectangles, circles, ovals, strips.

I do miss having all of my paper cutters/trimmers out at my disposal, but I have to admit, that I find I don't always cut things properly even with those tools. I always knew that, because when color blocking was trendy I could never pull it off properly. But even with my pocket pages, I'll trim 2 items to 3x4 size, then put them back to back in the same pocket, and one is clearly longer or wider than the other so you can see a noticeable portion of it peeking out from behind the smaller card. And I always think "How?!?!" So, while ruler & scissors takes me a lot longer, my results can turn out wonky in either situation.

I would have a hard time getting by without my guillotine trimmer. I guess if I had scissors I would manage, but it would slow me down a lot! I can't cut straight to save my life, no matter what I do. My trimmer cuts (and subsequent gluing of the pieces) aren't perfect either but at least the cut line is straight I could make do with a small trimmer, scissors, some decent glue or tape runner, and 6x6 paper + white cardstock, but I sure do appreciate having a bone folder and score board, a stamping tool and die cutting machine. I guess if I had to only choose one tool I could use my die cutter (+ dies) to cut all my pieces for cards, as long as my card bases were pre-cut!

... and one is clearly longer or wider than the other so you can see a noticeable portion of it peeking out from behind the smaller card. And I always think "How?!?!" Paper trimmer fails are usually caused by one of two things - either not lining up to the right spot on the ruler (less likely) or not holding down the paper hard enough (most likely). Depending on the style of trimmer and type of paper, the grain or tooth of the paper can cause it to be pulled into the trimmer blade as it's cut, which makes it angled.
If you're having measuring snafus, then a good tip is to put down washi tape on your target temporarily for easier batch cutting.

this is what i miss: the Making Memories self sharpening paper trimmer. man i loved that thing. i owned 3 of them. home, office, and back up. i liked it because it was lightweight and folded up. i now use the Fiskars Procision and it's the closest thing i've found to dependability of the MM trimmer.
this is what i would miss: large number ruler

Embri I learned the washi tape trick just recently from Scrapbooking Quebec. I can't believe it never crossed my mind to create a temporary stop on my trimmer to get exact measurements. D'oh!

Indicative of my linear style (& inability to achieve a straight line without assistance), it's a tie between my clear t-square ruler & (Fiskars ProCision Rotary) paper trimmer. :nerd:

I’d miss my guillotine paper trimmer the most that dh bought for me from Office Depot. I can’t cut a straight line at all on my own. I also would miss my Making Memories trimmer.
