I'm wondering because of course local news outlets are saying the story is getting national attention. A Boston police officer, John O'Keefe, was found dead in the driveway of another police officer's home after a night of partying. Supposedly a tight-knit police force and town are framing the dead officers girlfriend, Karen Read, for the death.
The officer was killed in late January of 2022, and his girlfriend, Karen Read, has been out on bail ever since. I honestly haven't paid much attention to this until the case went to trial last week. It's fascinating, and the multitude of mistakes made by law enforcement are crazy! Just yesterday, after less than a week, a juror was accused of perjury for misrepresenting her relationship to another witness. There's an incestuous connection between almost all of the cops and the witnesses involved, apparently even the judge has some connection.
Someone will get a great screenplay out of this!

I literally just heard about this case yesterday - it was the subject of an episode of a True crime podcast I listen to. I can't remember everything - I was listening in bed and possibly dozed off a couple of times - but there seemed to be all sorts of inconsistencies in people's stories.

Yes, I have been watching since the first trial day. Too many things to list here but the defense is driving me insane. I think this is going to be very hard for the jury.

That sums things up perfectly, there are so many inconsistencies! I'm blown away that no one interviewed people in the house where a dead body was found in the driveway. The police didn't have the correct tools, so they collected blood samples in red solo cups they got from a neighbor. They put the samples in a brown paper bag from the local chain "Stop and Shop." No thought of possible cross contaminiation. The crime scene was never cordoned off. Some of the uninterviewed parties in the house were first responders who made no attempt to help. Craziness.

I agree, Patter, but I'm glad they're working to make sure that Karen Read isn't jailed for the rest of her life because of bumbling law enforcement who seem hell bent on framing her for this.

I've been watching it too, and it's wild to think that we're on what, day 7? and there's been no evidence presented against her. None. If you haven't been watching it, go back and watch the opening arguments. The prosecution was all over the place, but the defense came in swinging.

This is local to me. I've been following it since the day O'Keefe was killed. It's a circus.

I've certainly heard about it on the news, but didn't pay much attention to it other than to think the drama about Karen Read's followers was a bit over the top. Now that I've watched the first week, I'm just amazed at how crazy these cops and others involved behaved. It's a study in ineptness! The cop that lives across the street has four ring cameras on his house that were turned off during the early morning hours when O'Keefe wound up in the driveway. No one interviewed witnesses or separated them in the first few hours after O'Keefe's body was found. Someone posted autopsy photos that look completely inconsistent with a 6'2" body being hit by a car. His eyes look like he'd been punched and he had lacerations on his right arm that look like he'd been attacked by a dog. Coincidentally, the homeowners German Shepherd, Chloe, was rehomed months later. A friend of the family replaced the basement floor a few months after the party where O'Keefe was killed. There are too many weird coincidences and inconsistencies to even list. I'm hooked!

I, personally, think she hit him by accident, but she's going to get off b/c there's no way a jury will convict her, the jury will never agree she's guilty.

I thought so too, but when they did the field trip to the house on Monday, the backup distance seems super implausible. I was surprised by that.

Oh yes, I am glad they are doing their job as they were hired to do for her, but man. I am not sure about the framing thing or not. Not going there yet. I just know I would not want to be on that jury. The number of sidebars is about to drive me nuts too. Slow, slow going this trial. I know it shouldn't be rushed but my patience meter is running out. LOL!

They're on witness 20 and still no cause of death or putting her at the crime scene. Or you know actually establashing that you indeed have a crime scene. If I was a juror I'd be super annoyed.

If she is acquitted or has a hung jury that they do not re-prosecute it would probably be in her own best interest to move far away.
It’s difficult to see/find guilt beyond a shadow of doubt without evidence directly linking her to a cause of death, a crime scene, or something?
If she is innocent I can’t see how she would be safe with the amount of people including law enforcement that are against her.
It is a weird case and nothing seems to add up as of yet.

A YouTuber I follow from Boston mentioned it months ago, so I got interested. It is a really sad case because JOK seemed like a nice guy.
I watch the trial on several YT channels ( four lawyers and some others) and it is really fascinating to see it unfold.

I have been following this case very closely and from all sides. I have never seen such a shoty job of police work. They have done a shitty job of this investigation from the get go. She will not be found guilty. Way to many discrepancies from the police and people on the seen .
