I would still tip $60 for takeout. I'm just happy to have restaurants staffed and able to make me my meals. The wait staff often have to help packaging up the meals and doing things like making toast.

That is a lot of work for a big order. I would tip $60.

And that was certainly your right to give them something extra if you felt it made sense. That is what a tip should be, discretionary based on the situation. Yet it has become an onus on the consumer to consider what the server might be paid, if the restaurant was busy or not, if you asked for extra help and whether that merits anything. It's exhausting and has imo almost ruined the appeal of dining out. And now even takeout!
This. So this. Prior to Covid and some other things, we ate at least three times a week in restaurants. We had a place we went every Wednesday night for dinner and another every Sunday night. But a lot of the fun has gone out of it. I read voraciously and servers are continuously complaining. This when many years ago 15% was a good tip (I know because I was a server then) and giving me tip fatigue. If we go to Starbucks, they want a tip for handing two $6 drinks out the window. The hairdresser wants a tip, the dog groomer wants a tip, the hotel maid wants a tip, the guy taking my takeout order wants a tip, and the list goes on.
We have saved a great deal of money by dining at home. Our chairs are comfortable, it doesn't take long to make a good meal, and I know the kitchen is clean and the cook (me) washed her hands.
I can't be the only one who feels like this.
