Yes, it is gross! I remember reading a story of this happening to a little girl. Apparently she got it from playing in her sandbox that a neighborhood cat had used as a litter box. I can’t imagine having a child’s sandbox left uncovered to where something like this could happen. I guess it just didn’t occur to the parents that cats are drawn to sandboxes.

“He claimed in a 2012 deposition that what at first appeared to be a tumor ‘was caused by a worm that got into my brain and ate a portion of it and then died.’”
Suddenly, things make so much sense.

I honestly have only read a couple tweets about this but wasn't the whole point of disclosing this during a deposition to lessen the amount of money to give his ex-wife during their divorce because his health was so bad that he had limited income potential? And now he's miraculously recovered and campaigning to be president.
That's the story that needs to get out.

Heck there's a sand area at our local park. I think it was going to be, or used to be volleyball.

The worm is the sensational part of the story, but apparently he also has cognitive deficits from high mercury levels due to heavy consumption of certain kinds of fish.

Apparently she got it from playing in her sandbox that a neighborhood cat had used as a litter box. I can’t imagine having a child’s sandbox left uncovered to where something like this could happen. I see house cats sitting on kitchen countertops all the time. Oh gosh that gives me the ick like nothing else. I am just not a house pet person. I get why people are. I love them critters, but I just can't handle them in my house. We did have a beloved dog who came in for a couple hours of TV watching at night. That was all she wanted. She let us know when she was ready to go back outside. One of my kids just bought a house that had a dog in it. Oh my god. Even after the carpets were professionally cleaned, they are just so gross. These people did not keep up after their dog. The furnace filter was packed so tight with dander and dog hair, I doubt they had ever changed it. Even after shampooing, she gets a canister of dog hair every time she vacuums. I know this isn't how many people are with pets in the house. I have a friend that has always had a dog, if not two - and you would never know. No pet fur anywhere and no smell. They bathe the dog and have one that doesn't shed terribly. And they clean regularly. I see so many that have pets in the house that should not. They are HUGE dogs that need more space and they don't keep it clean. Nasty. I dont know anyone who covered their sandbox when I was growing up and we all knew cats crapped in them. We or our parents checked it. That's why we had the "Turtle" sandbox that came with a lid! To many farm kitties (and raccoons) to have an open sandbox. But even at that - there is a lot of ick in sand! LOL I saw this about Kennedy on the morning news today. The expert doctor said that it did not "eat" his brain, but there was probably a tumor from it. And yes - this does explain a lot. LOL

I don’t recall ever finding cat poop in it but I never really played in it much. I was more of an indoor kid, LOL. There is a small playground by the post office in the next city over from us that has a huge uncovered sandbox area with a bunch of sand toys. When no one claimed the pails and shovels I posted in the Buy Nothing group last year, I dropped them off there for kids to play with in that sand box.

It is possible he got the infection from undercooked meat--usually pork. Here is information about trichinosis: Trichinosis (trik-ih-NO-sis), sometimes called trichinellosis (trik-ih-nuh-LOW-sis), is a type of roundworm infection. These roundworm parasites (trichinella) use a host body to live and reproduce. These parasites infect animals such as bears, cougars, walruses, foxes, wild boars and domestic pigs. You get the infection by eating the immature form of the roundworm (larvae) in raw or undercooked meat. When humans eat raw or undercooked meat containing trichinella larvae, the larvae grow into adult worms in the small intestine. This takes several weeks. The adult worms produce larvae that travel through the bloodstream to different parts of the body. They then bury themselves in muscle tissue. Trichinosis is most widespread in rural areas throughout the world. www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/trichinosis/symptoms-causes/syc-20378583

She let us know when she was ready to go back outside. OMG, that was my MIL. She usually had two cats at a time and they were always all over everything. It was so gross. She would bring her cats to the lake cabin and she kept the litter box in the kitchen of all places. 🤢 Then I would see those cats up on the counters and on the dining table all.the.time. Whenever DH and I were there with her, I was constantly, CONSTANTLY cleaning that kitchen and wiping down those countertops because it grossed me out so much. I think DH and I single-handedly kept the local hardware store in business for years buying bleach wipes and cleaning supplies from them. Needless to say, we tore it down and totally rebuilt it from the ground up after she passed away. I will always believe that dogs are way less nasty than cats. At least mine stay off the counters!

I have mixed emotions about this guy. He had previously said that he had a neurological disorder that caused his speech issues. I have autonomic dysfunction and had found this 3 or 4 years ago.

A family friend's husband died from a worm in the brain. It was from a raccoon. The raccoon had been using the sand trap at a golf course as its latrine. The guy picked his ball up and later got a sandwich from the clubhouse. He didn't wash his hands before eating and apparently had eggs under his fingernails. When they hatched one traveled to his brain and killed him. I've been paranoid about raccoons in the yard ever since! One was using my flowerbed as a latrine and my husband wore 2 pair of gloves and a mask to clean it up. I read that the only way to kill the parasite is with extreme heat. Freezing doesn't even kill them. Scary!

Yes, the article does mention undercooked pork. It also mentions that the worm probably lived in the brain for a long time before the brain finally decided to kill it. That is when symptoms of seizures and fevers start to happen, when the brain’s defense mechanisms start to work.

The gross part is the antivaxxer man who thinks a lot of our government is useless including FDA and CDC...
He has several neurological issues, including memory issues from the now dead word, the voice issues. And then there is his A-fib for which he has been hospitalized numerous times several years ago. He seems a walking mess..

I don’t think the worm has anything to do with his speech issues. His voice is different because of autonomic dysphonia. I heard his sister speak last week and was wondering if she had it as well.

Wandered around the University of Michigan Health site . Muscle Tension Dysphonia A dysphonia (diss-PHONE-nee-ah) is the medical term for a voice disorder. Muscle tension dysphonia (MTD) is one of the most common voice disorders. It occurs when the muscles around the larynx (voice box) are so tight during speaking that the voice box does not work efficiently. MTD is more prevalent among people in the 40- to 50-year-old age group, especially women. There are two types of MTD: Primary MTD — In this type, the muscles in your neck are tense when you use your voice but there is no abnormality in the larynx (voice box). Secondary MTD — In this type, there is an abnormality in the voice box that causes you to over-use other muscles to help produce your voice. Muscle tension dysphonia is also referred to as muscle misuse dysphonia. .... And a lot more..... www.uofmhealth.org/conditions-treatments/ear-nose-throat/muscle-tension-dysphonia
