I’ve had a Miele canister vacuum forever - but it has some parts that are broken and I’d love to get a lightweight vacuum for both hardwoods and some area rugs.
Does anyone have a recommendation??

Shark 100%. I have a smaller cordless one that we use at the lake cabin that’s perfect for there. We have mostly hare surfaced floors with a couple rugs. The battery lasts about 45 minutes which is just long enough to do the whole place plus the stairwell.
At home I have a corded Shark Navigator that I love. It’s a LOT lighter weight than the Dyson Animal it replaced (and which I think is what wrecked my shoulder). It’s so much easier to use on stairs too. Watch for a sale at Costco, I think they have the best prices.

We've been Dyson people for over 20 years. Bought a Miele canister vacuum late last year. 🤯 So quiet, maneuvers nicely, fantastic suction. We have all hardwoods and tile. Can't say how it is on carpet.
We have two Dyson cordless. The first one lasted 3 years with one battery replacement. It's dead again so we bought the Miele. The other cordless I keep upstairs for quick cleanups. We also have a canister Dyson that I now only use to detail our cars.
