I've never thought I needed/wanted Kindle Unlimited because I have access to excellent libraries, which are free rather than paying a per month fee. But, I've also wanted to read some of Freida McFadden's books which are not available in large print or ebook format at any libraries where I've searched. (I can't comfortably read the print in a regular book.) Come to find out it's because she's signed a deal with KU to have them there, which apparently a lot of authors are doing...? So I went to Amazon and found that I could get a 3-month free trial. Signed up immediately and I've been bingeing "The Housemaid" all day. lol
I haven't done a lot of browsing there yet to see what's available. But three months is plenty of time for me to read all the McFadden books (or decide I don't want to read any more after a few, lol).. But I still feel like it's silly to pay to borrow books when I have a good library.
If you have KU what do you think? Are there a lot of books there that aren't in the library? If you have it do you think you get your money's worth, whatever that means to you specifically? Some people in a Facebook group were saying it saves them a lot of money because they were buying a lot of books before they got KU. I almost never buy books so that doesn't apply to me. What's your opinion?

I did the 3-month free trial and then dropped it. I knew I wouldn't get my money's worth after the free trial. I haven't missed it. I did binge a lot of books in that 3 months though.

I have not joined Kindle Unlimited because too many of the authors I follow do not participate in KU. I like to read who I want when I want and not be locked into just KU authors.

I only use it when I get it for free (which is about every 6-9 months). I do like it I just won't pay for it .

So they will offer another free trial? even if you've had one already? if so, that's probably what I'll do. lol. I can't really justify it after my free trial with such a good public library. And I've never had any problem finding books to read at my library, except for this recent problem with Freida McFadden's books not being available in ebook format.

My dd loves it. As a teacher, it only benefits me over the summer. I can utilize my library for the little reading I have time for throughout the school year.

I have it. They often will have the first couple of books in a series there for free, hoping to hook you so you'll buy the rest of the series. I like that - I get to read an entire book or more before deciding if I want to buy the author's work. I've found a few of my favorite authors that way.
I like borrowing from the library but dislike often having to wait weeks or months for a book I want to read.

I have had it in the past but it is too expensive for me. It was $9.99 a month when I had it. Amazon has raised their Prime Membership annual fee so high now that I hoped they would offer some of their membership programs for cheaper or free but that did not happen.

I've subscribed to KU for several years. I think it's great. There's a big variety of authors and genres and I like that I can try out new things risk free.
Between KU and my library I haven't actually purchased a book in ages.

I love KU. Like chaosisapony said, there is a big variety of authors and it is a great way to try new things. My daughter gives me a yearly gift subscription at Christmas since she knows I get a lot out of it.

I use it. I did pause it for several months this school year, however, I’m using it again. I was using the library, but it got to be very annoying when books kept being available and I had no time to read, or one would come available and I wasn’t in the mood to read that genre.
I’ve found new authors by using KU. I’m reading a series I’ve been enjoying and I am sure they’ll want me to buy one soon. I just stop then.

You just have to keep checking. Sometimes it will say this account is invalid for this promotion but eventually it will work. Especially around Black Friday. My last free trial was in Jan for three months and now I'm eligible for the current one.

Yep, I have it and have had it for years. I don't get books from the library so the $12 pays for a lot of books. You can have up to 10 books at a time and I am a voracious reader so it has made a big cost savings for me as I rarely buy books any more. I like mysteries and thrillers like Frieda McFadden and there are lots of choices for me.

Maybe yours isn't good though...I'm spoiled with all our library choices here in the DC area.

I have had it for a couple of years, and my 3 daughters share my subscription. (That leads to interesting recommended reading LOL.)
I use a lot of the cookbooks and DIY BOOKS, as well as several authors I enjoy. For now I feel like I get plenty out of my subscription, but if I ever lose the ability to share it with the family, I’d probably drop it.
I have started to drop it a couple of times and Kindle responded with a free extension if I stayed. I’m probably due to try that again.

I did in the past, but found the selection limited and a bit overwhelming to navigate. My town's library is slightly bigger than my house, so paper books are usually out as an option for borrowing. I use my state's online lending library almost exclusively. If there's a title not available, sometimes there is a notify alert you can select.
I pick what books to read by selecting my want to read tag, then selecting available now. I'm a slow reader/audio book listener, so this has worked for me. I don't typically have a specific book on top of my to be read list.

I love KU but don't like to pay for it. Just signed up today for a 3 month deal and when it renews at regular price I will cancel. Love having so many books as I read a book almost every other day. I'm not a fan of the series books but I have about 4 that I have read and I'm just waiting for the next one to publish.

I did one of those three month trials several years ago. It was fine but I wasn't thrilled with the selection. Our library has expanded their ebook selection quite a bit so it's not something I need now.

I have it, it gives me a wide selection. It’s one of the few things in my budget that I won’t drop.

Between KU and my library I haven't actually purchased a book in ages. This is me exactly. I love the library but love being able to download something else quick when none of my holds are ready. I used to buy books and it cost more than the KU fee for just one.
