Other than a slight pink cast to the sky, I saw nothing with either the naked eye or my camera. I live outside the city so I was hoping it would be dark enough but the clouds got in the way. I was so disappointed.

Wow these photos are incredible. We had rain and clouds all day yesterday on the East Coast but it’s clearer today. Maybe we will see something. I would be willing to drive quite a distance to see something like this. Lucky you! Pine Barrens? Watchung Mountains, on a fire tower maybe...? Somewhere higher then sea level. 6 story building, deck? Away from 'city' lights! Even a dark highway?

May try again tonight. From Egg Harbor City in Atlantic County to Metuchen in Middlesex County and towns up north in Bergen County, scores of skywatchers took to social media to post photos they snapped of this rare event. In case you slept late and missed it, there is some good news: The Space Weather Prediction Center says the Northern Lights may be visible in many areas of the United States again Saturday night into early Sunday morning because of the “extreme” geomagnetic storm that has occurred high up in the atmosphere. The bad news: The agency says there’s a possibility the solar storm could disrupt communications satellites or power grids, so some GPS systems could be briefly interrupted. The agency said there have been some “reports of power grid irregularities and degradation to high-frequency communications and GPS” from the solar storm that was flaring Friday night into early Saturday. Additional details about those disruptions weren’t available Saturday morning. www.nj.com/news/2024/05/northern-lights-may-glow-again-in-nj-sky-as-intense-solar-storm-continues.htmlhop2 peasapie

I was able to see the Aurora Borealis in SW Ontario last night. Beautiful, amazing and awe inspiring.
Many years ago on an overnight flight from Toronto to Zurich, I was able to see the Aurora Borealis up close & personal as they were *beside* the plane. The pilot was great and he was able to get as close as possible and to see this phenom so closely and almost straight in front of my line of vision, rather than looking up, simply incredible.

100% this! I got some spectacular photos of them but to the naked eye it was kind of meh. I was really glad that I have the Pro Max phone with the better camera because the colors in my pics were way better than everyone else’s. 🩷

Any idea what the range is for tonight? Peak is 11 PM - 2 AM, but possible any time after the sun goes down.

Pretty much the same as last night and people as far south as Georgia and Texas were seeing them.
The further south you are, the more likely you’ll need to use night mode or long exposure on your camera to see them. As you go further north, they are more visible with the naked eye, but you’ll still see more through night mode and long exposure, so be sure to try that wherever you are.

I'm not sure whether you realise, but we have Aurora Australis (Southern Lights) down here. My Facebook feed has been flooded the last two days with photos that friends have taken - mainly from those who live near the bay or in the country. These photos were taken by a photographer who posted it on the Aurora Australis Tasmania Facebook page, which I have been following for a while. His post includes the settings he used. The photos that some of my friends have taken are mostly pink and green. They used their phones, which is why they didn't pick up all the other colours. They still look amazing though!

Yes, but I couldn't remember the name of yours. That first picture where the tree looks like it is separating the 'lights' is fascinating!! TFS!!

I decided at 1:00am that I just had to go to bed. Might try tonight, although there may be clouds and/or light rain overnight.. BOOOOO.... UPDATE: “I don’t think tonight is going to be a great viewing opportunity,” meteorologist Patrick O’Hara told lehighvalleylive.com Saturday morning from the weather service’s regional forecast office in New Jersey. However, clearing skies are forecast Sunday into Monday as high pressure moves into the region, so “there’s a better chance for that period,” O’Hara said. www.nj.com/news/2024/05/northern-lights-may-glow-again-in-nj-sky-as-intense-solar-storm-continues.htmlhop2
