Any pea with insight please give input.

DSD, 23, has had seizures for approximately 4 years. So far the info I'm getting is the latest guesses are hormones or PTSD as far as causes.

She's currently taking all of the following and I don't understand why a doctor would prescribe 3 seizure medications to take concurrently. Any clues? I think they are giving her way too much!

Desvenlafaxine (antidepressant)
Prazosin (off label for PTSD)
Levetiracetam (seizures)
Oxcarbazepine (seizures)
Lamotrisene (seizures)

Do they think that her seizures are psychogenic due to PTSD? If so, why aren't they doing therapy and a good PTSD med? They have meds that can treat both seizure and mood. Seems like all of that medication would make her a zombie. I'm sorry that she's going through such an ordeal. I'm not an MD, but I am a non-epileptic seizure patient. I was diagnosed at a major epileptology lab where I spent a week being observed. Sounds like your dd needs a really good epileptologist to diagnose and treat her. It doesn't have to be epilepsy and it doesn't have to be psychogenic(pseudo seizures). Sometimes there are more than one cause. For instance, someone who has seizures can also have pseudo seizures if they've experienced trauma. Please get an expert on the job. Seizure meds are not light on the system.

I'm sorry that your dd has to endure all of this.

If a single med isn’t controlling the seizures it’s common to add on a second. Some meds work better together as well.

It’s truly all a guessing game to see what will work for that specific type of Epilepsy and that person. Generally speaking after you fail 3 meds, the likelihood hood of control is less then 5 percent.

My 7 yr old has Epilepsy and we have done so many different combos of meds.
