I know we talked about Ralph Tyndall a couple months ago but this weekend Chrissy Teigen reposted one of Ralphs IG Reels in her stories and had an awesome comment for him. I have to admit, I was shocked that his reach is that far because I just don't find his crafting that spectacular. The card she reposted was pretty cool but overall, he's a very basic crafter in my opinion.

Woah! That's pretty wild. I guess if his goal is to reach crafters who are new or not part of the established crafty community he has achieved that! I don't care much for his cardmaking (meh, he's fine) but he did make an excellent clap back video the other day after someone left an especially insensitive comment on a post about his dog dying. His video skills are excellent. http://instagram.com/p/C56WfxQJsBy

He's awesome. Ralph benefits from being young and understanding social media way more than older folks. Being successful on Social media as a crafter isn't about the crafting. It's about salesmanship. It is the same way with being a Stampin Up demo. The most successful demos make standard cards. Nothing unique or special. But they know how to build a community of followers.
Plus being a guy in a female dominated world helps.
To be successful the cardmaking has to be fine, not amazing. Some of the most talented cardmakers IMHO are not the huge influencers because they don't have the video, photography, personality etc. skills.
I say you go for it Ralph. Your cardmaking is just fine and your social media skills are amazing.

Mind blown. I always thought he was an older gentleman and then saw the end of this video! I dont mind some of his cards. They usually pop up on Instagram for me in reels randomly. I dont follow him.

Your cardmaking is just fine and your social media skills are amazing. Totally! I asked my DS (mid 20's) about this, and he pretty much said this word for word. Ralph was savvy enough to build up a following on TT, and other social platforms. That snowballs into revenue and then snowballs into other things, and his reach is so vast that even if his cardmaking is just ok, businesses want him because of the reach. Additionally Ralph has a ASMR thing going on, etc...again, not about cardmaking talent, although his stuff is all right. I personally don't watch/follow him because he doesn't challenge me like other cardmakers but the reasons I watch cardmaking videos are probaby not why my DS's 22 year old girlfriend watches them. But Ralph doesn't deserve to get such meaness on a personal level, that is just low. I cannot believe someone said anything about his dog passing away. People are gross.

I like his tool box card. His style isn’t my style, and I’m not the fan girl type for following any card making/paper crafting star, anyway. I liked the way he did his video, though. Straight to the point. No talking, just visual. I really hate chatty craft videos, where they drone on and on.

I like him so I watch some of his YT videos occasionally. I wouldn't say all his cards are not my style, but many are not. But at least he's smart enough not to make a long drawn out video about the dog hater. A quick simple card video was enough said.

It's a good comeback from him. No drama, just to the point.
I'm not that into his card making style, but good for him for being so popular.

I’m not impressed by his card making. He gets all the buzz because he’s a male in a female dominated craft. I see a lot of women who are way more creative than he is, being passed over for attention. Just my opinion.

Love the card and the shade thrown gently. I totally agree with hockeyspaz62 that many of the men in this industry I find to be just so so in the creative realm. But they are men so voila...lots of attention.

but overall, he's a very basic crafter in my opinion. pinklady I totally respect your right to the opinion that you feel Ralph is a basic crafter. I happen to disagree. I find his cards to be very detailed and clever, and I believe that he was the first person to popularize ASMR videos in the mainstream crafting community. I'm not sure if many people realize that he has only been making cards since late 2022. He now has 859k followers on Instagram, I have no idea how many followers on TikTok and recently introduced his own line of stamps and dies with Hero Arts. I love the fresh perspective and diversity he brings to the community.

While my preferred style is different from his, I personally think his cards are clever and he definitely seems to put a lot of thought and effort into them (and I think they turn out great). If he's considered to be a basic crafter, I guess I would be a sub-basic crafter. If he's inspiring others to explore this hobby, I think it's fantastic.

His ASMR shorts are right up my alley. He makes nice cards. I also see his skills improving. I am not a fan of the endless talking and hand fluttering and tangents of some card makers. I'm here for the tutorial, not your life story or watching your hands while you talk (and talk, and talk, and talk...).

To be honest, I actually hate them and click out of them faster than fast!
