"the girl with the cane" love update and other news

Gosh how I miss you all!! I would love to come here and not always have a big dramatic update because I've been gone forever but **sigh** things have been quite the ride. Between McD, an unexpected home search and being on trial yet again I need a month off from life, lol.
McDreamy is even dreamier than I thought possible, hence the tread title. I may have mentioned a while back that we had been having issues because I've only met a few of his cousins and his sister. Which has been a major issue for me, and I've said to him multiple times that I won't continue with things the way they are. We've had big blow outs, little snipy tussles and everything in between. Especially recently, when he has become more of a part of my life as I look for a home (more on that in a minute). He ALWAYS seemed to be a bit dodgy, and he mentioned to me once that his family new about me but he didn't like the way I was 'introduced' since he wasn't the one who did it. I gave him the ONLY side eye because I figured it was a matter of him being possesive about being the first one to share the news. I was wrong.
A few weekends ago we were home chillin, probably cooking (or eating) and his phone kept ringing. He asked me who it was since it was closer to me and despite the fact that I'm not big on looking at people's phones (cheating ex-dh PTSD) I looked and it was one of the cousins I met. So I told him, and his response was to suck his teeth and keep cooking (as a side note this man cooks for me all the time. I tell him he doesn't have to come home after a long day of physical labor and cook. his response is my day is just as long so I need to have a seat and wait for my plate
). Anyway, the phone kept ringing and since it was a Saturday night I said to McD that maybe his cousin wanted us to meet him and go dancing. The two of them used to hang out every weekend before me, at the same spot where he has taken me a few times. His response to me was "I don't hang out with him like that anymore". So I pressed him and he told me that his cousin is the one that told his family about me, and rather than saying anything substantive he called me "the girl with the cane". And when his cousin calls to ask wat McD is doing he refers to me as "the girl with the cane". So McD cursed him out, telling his cousin "you know her name" and hasn't hung out with him or really talked to him at all for the last few months.
I was shocked at the rudeness, because I had seen this cousin more than once, been introduced to him and he even drove us home from the club. Then the whole thing made my sad, because the last thing I want is to be marginalized for walking with a cane. And then there was a small part of me that wondered if McD is embarrassed that I walk with a cane. So, I asked him. ABSOLUTELY NOT was his response. He just doesn't want my feelings to be hurt if his family is judgmental, a real possibility since their only knowledge of me is based on my disability.
I'm still torn about the whole thing because there really is no resolution. It won't happen until McD is comfortable and right now he is just mad.
There's only a little bit of tension on my part, which I've had to put aside because he insists on being part of EVERYTHING I do, Lol. I had to take the bird he didn't think I needed to the vet for a checkup and who is right there fussing at me because I didn't fasten the seatbelt over her carrier.
Most importantly he has been a huge part of my home search. I have to move this year, my lease is up (which I knew about) and since I want to move up in my career I should be in the district I'm considering (which I didn't know). Every place I've been he has come with me. With his super picky eye and determination that I be safe no matter what. So even the apartment I loved because it was up one flight of stairs (which I can do just fine) he was like absolutely not. No garage? No. Too far from my job (or him)? No. All that being said I think I found a place. I say think because there are some paperwork things that I need to do and I don't want to jinx anything.
I am here, I do check the boards so I'm keeping track of everyone. Know that you're all in my thoughts while I'm cheering from the background!!!
