PSA
If you need to download a parking app for a meter, be careful when selecting the proper app. I was in Duluth and needed to use the Park Duluth app. I thought I selected the right app and entered my email address and then my credit card. Then everything disappeared from my phone! I searched again and found the the correct app. I planned to call the CC company when I got to my friend's house, but luckily Bank of America send me a text a few minutes later asking if I authorized a payment, so I could say no. They promptly froze my card. BOA called me a little later and verified everything and has already mailed a new card.

I hate when stuff like that happens. 😖 I don’t like how easy it is for scammers to whip up scams like this. My kid had a band concert at the capitol and we had to park at a meter like that. It was so hard to tell if the parking thing we were using was going to the right place. Thankfully we didn’t get scammed but the whole system looked so easy to fake.

I’m so sorry that this happened to you. I’ll admit that I worry about it, especially when we lived in Europe. Between translating and the signs sometimes appearing quite amateurish, it’s a miracle the same thing never happened to us.

Oh wow! That really sucks, scammers suck. I'm relieved for you, that your bank recognised that it was likely a scam. Thanks for the PSA.

I'm so glad your bank caught it!
App stores should be held liable for any apps that they offer. Those are the products in their store. If you went to the grocery store and among the bottled water there was bottled bleach in water bottles on the shelf, that store would be held liable for offering a product without ensuring its safety.

Not only Apps, fake QR codes have been around in our car parks for a while. News reportYES! I won’t park from a QR code. Too risky. I have a parking app that has been good in many of the cities I’ve been in. Otherwise I use cash.

Where did you download the app from? I’d be 1000% shocked if it was in the official Apple or Google app stores.

Sometimes it's really hard to distinguish the real app from a scam app.
I was trying to get a fitness tracker app and as it was downloading I noticed the publisher of the app wasn't the name of the company. I quickly cancelled it. I now always read the "about this app" page to see who the publisher is and read reviews to make sure it's a legit app.

GRRR, mikklynn. So frustrating that now you have your card frozen. I was so confused when I parked in a hospital parkade last week that I went down to the security office, and thankfully could pay there in cash. Another person parking there told me that's what she was going to do, and suggested I take a pic of my license plate before going down three floors.

I just used the voice function to find the app. I realized it was no good and THEN went to the Google app store.
