Hi, I've been a cardmaker for many years and at times, I've purchased papers that were not correctly sized or papers that were not cut "squared" or at 90 degrees. Those issues are from the paper mills and companies who purchase paper from those mills, have them packaged and sell them.
Normally, I don't make very large cards, but I also don't make A 2 sized cards. That's why I didn't realize my cardstock was not a full 12" x 12". I use many of my colorful cardstocks to build up small die cut images, etc. Yesterday, I wanted to make a 5 3/4" x 5 3/4" white card base. I pulled out American Crafts, 80 lb. textured cardstock
#71259 (SKU #: 718813712590), Made in China.
I wanted to manually cut it using my Genesis cutter (decided not to use my Cameo cutter). Shockingly, the cardstock measured
11 7/8" on one side..and almost 12" on the top of the other side, however, this side was cut at a slight slant, going down to 11 7/8"...in
other words, it was cut crooked on one side..and I was short changed on the other side.
I decided not to use my Cameo because at times, although the card may be programmed to cut ie, 5 3/4" x 5 3/4", instead,
it might cut the height 1/16" shorter.
I had to manually square up the paper at 90 degrees.
Then, I decided to enlarge the card base I needed, I wanted to make a 6" x 6" card base instead. I knew I couldn't use the
American Crafts white textured cardstock. I had a few sheets of white textured, 80 lb. cardstock in the Joann's Park Lane colorful paper sets. I suspected it's also produced by American Crafts. Same thing, the cardstocks were short changed..not measuring a full 12" x 12". One side was 11 7/8" and the other side was almost 12" but cut at a slant down to 11 7/8". Those Park Lane packs were: #1728-8887 (SKU #: 718813546300) and #1728-8911 (SKU #: 718813729079). I sent emails to American Crafts and Joann's.
What can I do since I don't have a full 6" x 12" cardstock base? I'm going to have to patch the card. One piece will be
6" x 6" and the other piece will be 6" x 6 1/2" (1/2" will be used as a glue tab).
American Crafts and other companies need to do a better quality control at the paper mills.
Have you experienced some of the same paper issues?
Thanks for your replies in advance.
